Success is a Journey not a

destination. We wish you well for

This year we fielded three athletes from Eagling's Taekwondo who travelled to Adelaide to compete at the Sports Taekwondo Australia (STA) 2014 National Championships. The competition is by far Australia's pinnacle event for the best Taekwondo athletes. STA, Australia's Recognised National Taekwondo Sporting organisation, represents the only pathway for Olympic Taekwondo Selection in Australia. The competition bought together over 1200 elite Taekwondo athletes to compete for national titles and future possible selection to represent Australia internationally.

After making selection at the Tasmanian Taekwondo Open in June our three Tasmania athletes were the only ones to represent the state at this year's competition. The Eaglings Taekwondo athletes have trained hard all year to ensure they were able to complete at their peak best for the competition. Under the watchful eye of Master Instructor, Hugh Eagling , the three Tasmanian athletes performed extremely well, all achieving medal winning performances. Milad Sahraei (Black Belt, Open - 80kg to 87kg) Gold Medal Milad, had two very hard fights that were completely draining. His strength, courage and skill won through with both fights finally winning the gold medal and picking up the club's first Australian Championship for

encourage all our players to have the courage to achieve this as part of your Taekwondo journey. I also set a goal last year and travelled to Sydney to sit my 8th Dan Jidokwan and 5th Dan in Hapkido. I passed both and have to thank Grant Chilcott who came with me to be my grading partner. The next step is to travel to Korea in a few weeks time to sit my Kukkiwon 8th Dan, something you have to do in Korea. We have four instructors coming along for a week of training in Taekwondo and Hapkido. We will

also attend the 69th Jidokwan Anniversary Celebration while we are there. We introduced a fitness class on Wednesday nights last year that is aimed at all fitness levels and is open to anyone that wants to attend. We are looking forward to keeping that class active this year after its success last year. Wednesday nights at 5.45 pm for anyone that wants to come along. Our tournament team took it to the next level last year coming away from the Nationals in Adelaide with a gold and two silver medals. You will find a full report in this newsletter. On a more personal note I wanted to finish by extending my heart felt thanks to my Instructors who kept the club firing away after I injured my hand in October, particularly Angela who coped with the pressure as a true professional. Thanks also to Grant Chilcott and Ian Snape who picked up the coaching roles in preparation for the Tournament team. Grant also acted as the senior instructor for our Hapkido club in my absence, also handling the pressure as a true professional. I look forward to being back on deck when we resume training. We have reset the format this year to provide an engaging program for all levels. Use the beginning of the year to set your goals for the year and have the tenacity to see them through to the end, no matter how tough the going gets. Good luck and I look forward to seeing you on the floor.

2014 Nationals Continued: many years. Isabel O'Dowd ( Black Belt, Open - 53kg to 57kg) Isabel won her first match on a 12 point split. She came off that fight with a hyper-extension injury to her knee. The final was always going to be hard because she was not able to apply full pressure with her injured leg. Despite that she went out and performed exceptionally well in an incredibly strategic fight, holding the score even until the last round and the score slipped away to see her pick up the silver medal. Ethan Macgregor (Red Belt, 15-17 years - 63kg to 68kg) Ethan had a very close, hard fought strategic match the final score ended with Ethan losing by one point 7-6 in a great fight to achieve a silver medal. It was a mature calculated performance and a great improvement from last year and it will be an interesting step for him into the Black Belt Divisions for next year. In all respects the result achieved has been a great achievement for Tasmanian Taekwondo athletes.
