Essbase Analytics Link – Product Information Overview Application Options Configuration Concepts Transformation Types

Demo Why EAL? Typical Use Cases Q and A

Agenda

www.finitsolutions.com - 10 -

Formerly called “HyperRoll” Purchased by Oracle in 2009 Not to be confused with Extended Analytics Extended Analytics

Will extract HFM data to a flat file or relational database tables Included with HFM

Essbase Analytics Link Will manage the data integration and application structure of an Essbase

application to report on HFM data Separate Product and License

EAL Overview

www.finitsolutions.com - 11 -

From Oracle Website: Oracle Essbase Analytics Link for Hyperion Financial Management facilitates the real-time or on-demand transfer of financial information from Oracle Hyperion Financial Management to Oracle Essbase for reporting and analysis.

Essbase Application Creation and Data Synchronization are built in features of the tool “Set it and Forget it” No separate integration piece is needed for HFM data

EAL Overview

www.finitsolutions.com - 12 -

Pre-requisite: Working HFM application

Administered through a snap-in to the EAS (Essbase Administration Services) Console

Generally, this must be run from the server where EAS is installed

Note: Not currently web enabled

EAL Overview

www.finitsolutions.com - 13 -

Essbase is generally more restrictive when it comes to Meta-Data EAL has three ways to handle this Automatic Meta-Data creation [None] in Custom1 (HFM) becomes Custom1.FM_None in

Custom1 (Essbase)

Data Mapping You can map [None] to anything you want in the Custom1

dimension on the Essbase side

Exclude Dimension (More Later)

EAL Configuration Concepts

www.finitsolutions.com - 15 -

Configure Bridge

EAL Configuration Concepts

www.finitsolutions.com - 16 -

Two high level options for configuration Transparent Partition This option will create an Essbase application that

stores no data coming from HFM A Transparent Partition is created which will query

HFM data from the EAL data store at query time Default refresh rate from HFM is every 5 minutes No “push” or “pull” required More popular option – “Set it and forget it”

EAL Application Option #1

www.finitsolutions.com - 17 -

Replicated Partition This option will actually move data to Essbase Replicated partition is set up to move data to Essbase All levels of data are moved over Refresh is on demand Caveat: You must press a button in EAS. (No

automation is currently available) Less popular option (because of data refresh delays)

EAL Application Option #2

Essbase Properties from EAL

EAL Configuration Concepts

www.finitsolutions.com - 19 -

EAL connects HFM to Essbase using a Bridge Bridges are the main configuration point for EAL Bridges contain Data Regions Data Region identifies the subset of data to move Selectable by POV (Year, Entity, Account, etc.)

Default is to move all data You can define multiple regions Most helpful for Replicated partitions You can refresh a given region at a time- separating regions

by period and entity for example

EAL Configuration Concepts

www.finitsolutions.com - 20 -

Each Bridge will contain a “Target Design Grid” It defines the relationship between HFM and

Essbase

EAL Configuration Concepts

www.finitsolutions.com - 21 -

Each dimension allows you to configure a “Transformation Type” Each Transformation type has different options on

how to transform or otherwise include each HFM dimension in the Essbase application Some types support member selection Some types support mapping Some types support automatic prefixing

EAL Transformation Type

From the Documentation

EAL Transformation Type

www.finitsolutions.com - 24 -

Dimension Creation Creates the dimension in Essbase automatically with

HFM meta-data Data can be mapped but does not have to be

Dimension Mapping Does not create the dimension in Essbase

automatically. It assumes the dimension already exists Data can be mapped but does not have to be Supports additional members or hierarchies in the

outline

EAL Transformation Types

www.finitsolutions.com - 25 -

Not in Outline Will not move the outline to Essbase at all You choose one HFM member for which to send data For example: [None] in Custom3 (if it is not used)

New Dimension Will move data to one Essbase member of a new

dimension You choose the Essbase member to which to send

data For example: Version dimension

EAL Transformation Types

www.finitsolutions.com - 26 -

Join Dimensions Joins multiple HFM dimensions into one Essbase

dimension Mapping is required Assumes new dimension is created on the Essbase

side

EAL Transformation Types

www.finitsolutions.com - 27 -

Break Dimensions Breaks apart a single HFM dimension into multiple

Essbase dimensions Mapping is required Really useful for when you are using one Custom

dimension in HFM for multiple purposes

Currency Breaks Currency in HFM into two Essbase dimensions

(Currency and Value) Makes reporting on the Essbase side easier

EAL Transformation Types

www.finitsolutions.com - 28 -

For Transparent Partitions there is no “execution” since it’s a direct synch of data Replicated Partition involves clicking the button

Executing EAL

DEMO

Demo

www.finitsolutions.com - 30 -

Can make reporting out of HFM easier You can “Hide” dimensions, rename custom

dimensions You can break apart Custom dimensions

Can extend HFM reporting You can add dynamically calculated members, for

example

Why EAL? Typical Use Cases

www.finitsolutions.com - 31 -

Can reduce load on HFM server For plain reporting, you can use Essbase, keeping HFM

server resources for consolidation

Licensing Cost Essbase licenses are less expensive Cheaper to reach “View” only users via Essbase
