Early 2013 Model Year Scion FR-S Vehicles Owner’s Manual Update SAFETY RECALL NOTICE [VIN] Dear Scion Owner: This notice is being sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Toyota has decided that a portion of the owner’s manual in early 2013 Model Year Scion FR-S vehicles does not conform to owner’s manual language requirements stated in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 208 “Occupant Crash Protection” . What is the condition? The language used in the “Front Passenger Occupant Classification System” section of the owner’s manual does not accurately describe the system operation as required. In addition, other areas of the owner’s manual that describe the airbag system require clarification. Although the vehicle’s SRS airbags will operate as intended, the inaccurate information provided in the manual could lead to a misunderstanding of the system’s actual operation. If a user reads and follows inaccurate owner’s manual information, this could lead to an increased risk of injury to a front passenger seat occupant under certain crash conditions. Please refer to the insert provided with this letter for correct information. What will Scion do? Please find enclosed with this owner notification letter an Owner’s Manual Insert, Page Identification Labels (PIL) and Installation Instructions. The insert provides corrected information about the airbag system for the front passenger seat. What should y ou do? This is an important Safety Recall Please apply the enclosed Owner’s Manual Insert and Page Identification Labels using the provided instructions. If you are not comfortable installing the Owner’s Manual Insert and Page Identification Labels, please contact any authorized Scion dealer to schedule an appointment to have the installation performed at NO CHARGE. You will need to bring the provided materials to the dealership at the time of your appointment. It will take approximately 10 minutes to install them. However, depending on the dealer’s work schedule, it may be necessary to make your vehicle available for a longer period of time. If you would like to update your vehicle ownership or contact information, please go to www .toyota.com/ownersupdate . You will need your full 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to input the new information. What if y ou ha ve other questions? Your local Scion dealer will be more than happy to answer any of your questions and set up an appointment to perform this Safety (Non-Compliance) Recall. If you require further assistance, you may contact the Scion Customer Experience Center at 1-866-707-2466 Monday through Friday, 5:00 am to 6:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday 7:00 am through 4:00 pm Pacific Time. If you believe that the dealer or Scion has failed or is unable to remedy the defect within a reasonable time, you may submit a complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Avenue S.E., Washington, D.C. 20590, or call the toll free Vehicle Safety Hot Line at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153), or go to www .safercar .gov . If you are a vehicle lessor, please assist us by forwarding this notice to the lessee. Dear Scion Owner:

Vehicle Owner or Lessee Instructions:

1. INSTALL THE PAGE IDENTIFICATION LABELS ON TO THE OWNER’S MANUAL

a) Apply the labels to the bottom of the following pages as shown in the illustration below.

• 45 • 74 • 76 • 199 • 101 • 105• 73 • 75 • 79 • 100 • 102

• Please confirm the page number on the label matches the page number on the owner’s manual.

• Please DO NOT place the label on top of any of the owner’s manual text.

2. INSTALL THE OWNER’S MANUAL INSERT

a) Remove the backing sheet from the insert to expose the adhesive.

b) Apply the insert to inside of the back cover of the owner’s manual.
