What is SAP EarlyWatch Alert?
a pro-active service, that helps to monitor most types of SAP systems (Netweaver, BI, SUP,
HANA)
a fully automated service inside SAP Solution Manager.
weekly report with findings and recommendation via email

informs SAP on critical alerts in the customer systems on a weekly basis

Set-up of EarlyWatch Alert
1. Perform “Managed System Configuration” in Solution Manager (solman_setup)
2. EWA is set-up automatically for production systems
3. Check chapter “Service Preparation and Data Quality” for completeness of the EWA report.
4. Use “EarlyWatch Alert Management” (solman_setup) for administration (e.g. recipients)

Prerequisites
Prerequisites for Scenario I:
On the ABAP system:
– ST-PI 2008_1_7xx SP 10 or ST-PI 740 has to be
implemented
– SAP Note 1985402 has to be implemented

EWA Set-up:
• There are 2 possible set-up scenarios: EWA for an ABAP system with connected
SAP HANA database or EWA for SAP HANA stand-alone.
• The manage system configuration has to be completed.
• The system has to be added to a solution.

When to take action?
Red report: Critical issue was detected. -> Follow instructions in report. Open ticket in case
of further questions.
Grey report: Important checks could not be performed. -> Follow instructions in report,
otherwise a critical issue could be overseen!
Production systems are not monitored by EWA. -> You cannot benefit it!
Persons, who are responsible for systems, don’t receive the report. -> Set-up email sending
of EWA.
EWA results are wrong and recommendations are not clear or lead to issues -> Provide
feedback to EWA development by opening a ticket.
