What is an earthquake?
Earthquakes are the shaking, rolling or sudden shock of the earth’s surface.
They are the Earth's natural means of releasing stress.
Earthquakes can be felt over large areas although they usually last less than one minute.
Earthquakes cannot be predicted, although scientists are working on it.
Three layers of earth…
The inside of earth is made up of 3 main layers of earth known as:
1)Core: The innermost part of the earth is known as core
2)Mantle: The central region of the earth between the core and crust.
3)Crust: The outermost layer of earth is called crust.
Why do they occur?Earthquakes occur when the moving plates of the earth’s crust :
Slide past one another
Collide with one another
EFFECTS OF EARTHQUAKE
Loss of life and Property
Ground shaking
Fire
Tsunami
Landslides
Sometimes rivers change the course
ADVANTAGE OF EARTHQUAKE
Knowledge about earths interior
Formation of soils
New landforms
Natural lakes are formed
ADVANTAGE OF EARTHQUAKE
Without earthquake in the world, the size of the
energy which is generated by the magma would
increase.
Thermal water resources, mineral resources, water
resources, such as healing waters, actually happens
the result of an eartquake.
DURING AN EARTHQUAKE:
DROP, COVER AND HOLD ON!
Stay indoors until the shaking stops.
Stay away from windows.
If you’re in bed, hold on and stay there, protecting your head with a pillow.
If you’re outdoors, find a clear spot away from buildings, trees and power lines. Then, drop to the ground.
If you’re in a car, slow down and drive to a safe place. Stay in the car until the shaking stops.
