Page 2: Earthquake Data

Part 3 Step 2 Question 2

Q:What do you notice about the distribution of these earthquakes?

A: The earthquakes are mostly on the boundary lines.

Page 3: Earthquake Data

Part 3 Step 2 Question 3

Q: How does the distribution of these earthquakes compare to others?

A: That they are all in groups by the Convergent Boundaries (which are the red lines). And they are all by the oceans.

Part 3 Step 2 Question 5

Q: What type of plate boundary is associated with earthquakes that have a magnitude of 7.0 or greater?

A: The occur by Convergent boundaries.

Part 3 Step 3 Question 4Q: What Percentage of big earthquakes occur within 100 miles of a convergent plate boundary?

A: 613 out 1286 of 48% of big earthquakes occur within 100 miles of convergent plate boundaries.

Part 3 Step 3 Question Q: What Percentage of big earthquakes occur within 200 miles of a convergent plate boundary?

A: 977 out of 1286 so that is 76% of big earthquakes occur within 200 miles of a convergent plate boundary.

New List: Ten Places

New Technology:Scientists are always finding new ways but

they have satellites that can detect earthquakes days and even weeks before they occur.

I think that Europe is going to have the next earthquake!!

Page 10: Earthquake Data

Overall:I have learned that earthquakes are hard to predict and if you get enough data then you can get a sense of it, but it still needs a lot of work.

Some factors that influence earthquake prediction are the weather, where you are in the world, and what technology that your using.

Most of the large and/or significant earthquakes occur along the continental plate boundaries.
