Excursion After a night of almost no sleep for most, the excursion started early in the morning. Keeping on drinking throughout the day proved to be one of the best ways of keeping the inevitable hangover at bay. Not a minute had passed when the boat left the pier before a new party was already on its way. Umbrella is very impressed by the en- durance of EASAians who kept the party spirit high up all through the cruise. We made a couple of stops on lovely clear blue water bays where all our worries seemed to wash away. Many people were ecstatic by the experience and some were calling it the best excursion ever! After such a relaxing trip, we are all renewed and refreshed for anoth- er week of hard work at the workshops! Gossip Girl Waddup homies! You’ve certainly kept me busy during the last couple of days and it looks like swinging is trending again for the first time since the ‘70s. An EASA-couple with some history under their belt was charmed by a fair haired fellow who first had his go with the lady of the couple and then enchanted the male side as well. All the same, the man of the couple has already found fresh love to forget his curious tendencies, this time with the more beautiful gender. The gays are keeping as busy as usual though the limited amount of possible partners results in a nicely mixed relation soup where every- one seems to be linking some way or another. Still, creativeness comes in handy as there appears to be more than one curious “straight” guy around. Let the games begin! Moving on to more straight territory; a certain Irish woman was “on a mission” and scored three big names of EASA during National Evening. The Irish boys have also seen some action by being the target of attrac- tion of a Balkan beauty who seems to collect all the men meat of the northern team! We’re starting the final stretch of the assembly as we are already well in to the second week. Now’s the time to make your move if you haven’t yet! Take the risk and don’t go home thinking what you should’ve done and what could’ve been! And what color is my flag, that’s a secret I’ll never tell. ExcursionAfter a night of almost no sleep for most, the excursion started early in the morning. Keeping on drinking throughout the day proved to be one of the best ways of keeping the inevitable hangover at bay.

Not a minute had passed when the boat left the pier before a new party was already on its way. Umbrella is very impressed by the en-durance of EASAians who kept the party spirit high up all through the cruise.

We made a couple of stops on lovely clear blue water bays where all our worries seemed to wash away. Many people were ecstatic by the experience and some were calling it the best excursion ever!

After such a relaxing trip, we are all renewed and refreshed for anoth-er week of hard work at the workshops!

Gossip GirlWaddup homies!

The gays are keeping as busy as usual though the limited amount of possible partners results in a nicely mixed relation soup where every-one seems to be linking some way or another. Still, creativeness comes in handy as there appears to be more than one curious “straight” guy around. Let the games begin!

Moving on to more straight territory; a certain Irish woman was “on a mission” and scored three big names of EASA during National Evening. The Irish boys have also seen some action by being the target of attrac-tion of a Balkan beauty who seems to collect all the men meat of the northern team!

We’re starting the final stretch of the assembly as we are already well in to the second week. Now’s the time to make your move if you haven’t yet! Take the risk and don’t go home thinking what you should’ve done and what could’ve been!

ASAHave you been wondering what the intelligent people from ASA are doing at the moment with their digital tools? Umbrella got a chance to find out and was curious to explore more.

All the tutors and participants are scanning interesting parts of Valletta by a normal camera, transforming them in to 3D models on computer. Later they will use the data for their creative projects as well as a 3D memory of Valletta. They are developing an app which helps to foresee the unbuilt interactively on the android platform.

According to the tutors, the workshop has been going very well, though at first the participants were confused because of the way they used a game engine and programming in architectural design.

“I had no idea what they were doing. They gave us the references to read but due to the weak internet we got limited access to them. It was so difficult to concentrate because of the hot weather and the poor ventilation in the lab.” – shared one participant. From the tutor’s side, the introduction part was the most challenging issue since it was built from the ground up to make people understand and now all got the basics so life is much easier. It was also a good case for team building in their opinions.

To Umbrella’s thoughts, what ASA is researching or introducing to us will make the architectural visualization industry among our community more diversified, covering more than still images and animations.

If you still didn’t quite realize what ASA is doing, pop in the IT-lab and have a look! The tutors and participants are happy to show you the magic!

An example of ASA’s app.

An unexpected Atlas of VallettaThe group has been planning their large map of Valletta and they are just starting to draw the final version. First the participants visited the library in Valletta to look at maps from the 16th century and of past wars. This has inspired them to draw a map with several narratives within; they have decided to express this through different skewed perspectives and scales.

Here is a drawing of the accommodation by the group – they folded over paper and passed it on as a warm up game- see if you can spot yourselves!

Duck VillageJust across the romantic EASA sunset spot, on Manoel Island, a small village is hiding. The smell of warm shit leads your attention to this neverland - DUCK VILLAGE.

Small houses has been created in the aestetic of a theme park. Made by wood, a touch of fresh paint, dolls and old shipwrecks, the setting looks like a cannibal island. The village was created to house the fugi-tive ducks that crawled up on land after the long journey. Eventhough this sanctuary was only thought as a temporary drop in for the ducks, it has now become a full time home of tranquility.

The cutest organizer, Seb <3

Antiroom

All the pieces for the frame of Antiroom’s floating pavilion have been cut and are ready to be assembled. At the beginning of the day the team had one segment out of 28 put together, so lots to go! After that all the segments are getting painted white to float on the blue sea. We are looking forward to seeing the team join all the parts piece by piece in the sea, then we can jump aboard and swim in the central pool in the middle.

National Evening

Boys and girls of EASA, congratulations on yet another fantastic National Evening. Ten years since its first occurrence, the infamous event has retained its status as the most outrageous night of the assembly. Our favourite ditch proved the perfect setting for a line-up of impressively decked-out tables, crazy games and an excess of drunken misbehaviour. From ten pm, we experienced bull runs, surprise Viking attacks, rock-et ships, icy plunges into the waters of Loch Ness, pole-climbs, ham-mer-slams, Finnish snow-rolls, a Danish sausage-fest, a Latvian sauna, a rave-tent, arm wrestling with big Arnie himself… the list does go on. The creativity this year was on top form, not to mention the delicious feeding of national foods and dubious methods of alcohol consumption! Rakia through a horse’s head? Why not!

If however you managed to keep your head beyond one o’clock am (yes, as early as that) what you would have seen was a wet, filthy mess of paint/flour covered booze monsters throwing each other about like animals. One unlucky NC was vomited on by three different people. The couples had already snuck away by this stage, and though the danc-ing did continue long into the morning hours, many managed to catch the sleep they needed before the party boat excursion of the following day. Fortunately this year was free from any serious injuries and the bar area was, somewhat surprisingly, good and tidy again in no time.

Our night of “hedonistic debauchery” is out of the way. We’ve had the release we all needed. Time to get stuck into the second week of EASA Malta!

Umbrella congratulates Karl!

“I really thought I would be better at the sausage dipping game.” -Sean (obviously)

“That was one NICE ass”

“The food is so good I’m

gonna move to Georgia”

“Hasta la vista, baby!”

“I just kissed a girl and now

she’s going to bed. I’m so

happy, I’ll just go back to

the bar!”
