Ancient Civilizations On Tuesday we went to Segedunum to learn all about the Romans. We went back in time and entered Roman soldier training! Everyone learnt to march like soldiers, had Latin lessons and even dressed like soldiers. We found out lots of fascinating facts. Did you know a Roman soldiers metal ring mail vest was made from 50,000 rings of metal? We had a tour of the Roman fort and discov-ered lots of interesting things about the Romans who would have lived there. We even saw part of the original Hadrian's wall. We finished our day with a fierce battle on Hadrian's wall between the Barbarians and the Romans, with the Romans victorious of course!
Staff Car Park
In the last few weeks, there has been a sharp rise in the number of parents parking in the staff car park. This has resulted in a number of near misses for children, increased difficulty for staff parking and inappropriate use of disabled spaces. We are lucky to have lots of spaces on our school site unlike many other schools, therefore we insist that parents park in the designated visitor areas regardless of the time of day children are dropped off. Finally, there has been a rise in the number parents letting their young children out of cars to make their way into school. In the interests of safety, please ensure you chil-dren are brought into school/playground during drop-off.

Love is in the Air Happy Valentines! This week we have been busy celebrating Valentine ’s Day in lots of different ways in nursery. We have been thinking about the people we care for and making cards to give to our friends. Our ‘Bestie Booth’ was super fun with us all piling in for selfies with our besties.
We’ve been busy making hearts in the playdough and gluing areas and enjoyed giving them to our friends. Writing Valentine ’s Day cards is the perfect opportunity for us to practice our names although some of us chose to remain anonymous and filled our cards with kisses instead!
Attendance Rewards That’s another half term over and done with and we are delighted to say that over 130 children in our school have achieved 100% attendance since the Christmas break! As promised, children with receive a sweet reward during the first week back after half term.
As we are now half way through the school year, every parent will also receive a letter providing an overview of your child’s attendance since Sept 2018. The letter also provides context about how your child’s attendance compares locally and nationally.
School Shoes We have a few pairs of new children’s school shoes left in school namely sizes 7, 8, 11, 1 & 2. These shoes are free to a good home but it is a first come, first serve basis. Just pop round the main office if you would like to see them.
Year 6 WOW Week Miss Goldsmith’s class will be itching
to get back into school after the half
term as their WOW week kicks off from
Monday.
Year 6 will be taking a trip to South
America to sample some delicious
snacks, creating some South Ameri-
can music vibes and absorbing the
culture.
Parents are invited to join us in school
on Thursday 28th February from
9:30am. Please bring your creativity
and artistic flair with you as you will be
crafting South American Dream catch-
ers with your children!
More Parents Roman the Halls... Year 4 had a fabulous morning this
week working alongside our family mem-
bers. We shared lots of photos of our trip
to Segedunum where we were put
through our paces as new recruits in the
Roman Army, we got our hands dirty
making clay amulet necklaces and we
designed our own mosaic patterns. Lots
of fun was had as we went on to create
our own versions of traditional Roman
catapult weapons (the Scorpion and the
Ballista). We then tried out our creations
aiming for various targets! Photos of
both the visit to Segedunum Roman Fort
and our WOW morning are on the
school website so log on to see what we
got up to.
Now trying marching in it!
Smile! You’re in the Besty Booth!
Awards
We reward our children
with a VIP award every
week for good behaviour,
excellent attitudes, and
being kind amongst many
others things. The VIP
award means children get
to go first for lunch and
take a friend with them!
We also have our X Fac-
tor award which is given
out to one child in each
class for an extra special
event that makes us go
WOW!
See how your child’s
