NV Pol Roger Brut BUY

Region: Epernay, Champagne, FranceVarietals: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot MeunierNotes: Consistency is king, especially when it comes

to Champagne. Pol Roger, like a well-oiled machine continue to produce non-vintage Champagne of the highest quality year after year. What makes them so special? Careful fruit selection and longer ageing in their cellar; the wine is not sold until the youngest component is at least three years old (that’s double the required time). This plus a mix of traditional and modern winemaking all contribute. Pure, green apple and pear entice the palate with toasty hints of honey drizzled on brioche adding complexity.$66ea $59 in any six

NV Claude Carré Blanc de Blancs BUY

Region: Trepail, Champagne, FranceWinemaker: Claude CarréNotes: We have harped on about ‘The Growers’ of

Champagne for years and for good reason… The expression of fruit and the ‘energy’ they carry are unrivalled amongst sparkling wines across the world. It’s also that refreshing thought the fruit and creation is all their own work. This delicious number has fine creamy mousse with traces of delicate biscuity & brioche notes, fine citrus fruit, and a fine crisp finish.$65ea $58 in any six

NV José Dhondt Blanc de Blancs BUY

$65ea $58 in any sixNV Larmandier-Bernier BUY Blanc de BlancsRegion: Vertus, Champagne, FranceVarietals: ChardonnayNotes: An honest and pure expression of superb

Chardonnay fruit with little intervention from one of our favourite growers. Bio-dynamic vineyards, low yields, wild yeasts, minimal dosage and extended lees ageing all make these small production Champagnes stand out from the pack. 100% Chardonnay provides the wine with a tight, fresh, nutty character with wonderful complexity and style. Exceptional value too in the scheme of things! $80ea $70 in any six

NV Langlois Brut BUY

Region: Loire Valley, FranceVarietals: Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet FrancNotes: Chateau Langlois of Loire Valley are

Crèmant specialists producing an array of sparkling wines from across the region. What makes them one of the best producers in the area is their knowledge of the vineyards and soil and most importantly their mastery of the blending process - a connection with the famous Bollinger name is also an advantage. This cuvée sees the addition of Cab Franc which adds roundness and structure to the fresh and elegant palate. Ignoring the fact this is from the Loire, this is simply an awesome bubbly that can only hail from one country. $32ea $28 in any six

NV Varichon & Clerc BUY Blanc de BlancsRegion: FranceVarietals: Chardonnay, Chenin, Ugni Blanc and ColombardNotes: Here we have the perfect drop for those

with Champagne taste on a budget. A regional blend from all across that beautiful country France, produced using the classic `Methode Champenoise`. A rich, yet still refined fragrance of hazelnuts and buttered toast lead to a fresh, light and dry palate. A little too easy to enjoy. Top value!$16ea $14 in any six

Bubbles from the New World

2009 Oakridge Chardonnay Pinot Noir BUY

Region: Yarra Valley, VICWinemaker: David BicknellNotes: This stunning Aussie sparkling comes from

Oakridge’s ‘Local Vineyard Series’ where they have matched particular varieties with the specific sites to give you exceptional examples of single vineyard wines. This was a benchmark for Australian bubbles from our tasting and the epitome of elegance, starting with aromas of freshly baked sourdough with lemon zest. The palate has fantastic texture whilst showing rich and buttery stone fruits – there’s a lot going on here and a lot to be said for this wine. Very, very classy! $36ea $32 in any six

2008 Padthaway Estate ‘Eliza’ BUY

Region: Padthaway, SAVarietals: Pinot Noir & ChardonnayNotes: The noble and historic Padthaway Estate has

been home to sparkling wine production for three decades. The circa 1847 woolshed was converted into a sparkling-specific winery in 1980 and is home to Australia’s only authentic Champagne Press. Pure free-run juice is gently enticed from the cool-climate fruit, resulting in a stylish, complex, and charming sparkler. Terrific value too. $20ea $17 in any six

Page 7

NV Mountadam ‘High Eden’ BUY Pinot ChardonnayRegion: Eden Valley, SAWinemaker: Con MoshosNotes: Eden Valley seems to have the perfect

climate to produce wines of power with grace; they do it so well with Riesling one would assume it would be the same story for Sparkling. This NV from Mountadam is the perfect example with tons of flavour conveyed with refinement. Quite reminiscent of strawberry tart… fresh strawberries on some short crust pastry dusted lightly with icing sugar to add a sweet lift.$24ea $20 in any six

NV 42 Degrees South BUY

Region: TasmaniaWinemaker: Alain RousseauNotes: From the award winning Frogmore

Creek Winery comes this highly enjoyable drink, perfectly capable as an aperitif pre-dinner tipple or as an easy drinking party starter. A blend of 60% handpicked Chardonnay and 40% handpicked Pinot Noir, sourced from Campania, Coal Valley, Southern Tasmania and Relbia (Northern Tasmania), this NV is loaded with flavour. 2011 Redbank Prosecco BUY

Region: King Valley, VICWinemaker: Nick DryNotes: The popularity of Prosecco continues to

grow as Australia falls for this fresh and fun style of sparkling. Light and bright is the key with Redbank’s newly released Prosecco. The Prosseco grapes are gently pressed to minimise too much texture in the wine and maintain focussed, delicate fruit. The result is a vibrant fruit salad of melon, white peach, with an array of citrus and a gentle sweet finish.

$20ea $17 in any six2012 Innocent Bystander BUY Pink MoscatoRegion: VictoriaVarietals: Gordo Muscat & Black MuscatNotes: This is a drop not to be taken too seriously

- let's face it, it’s all about frivolity, light entertainment and good times. Picture a show bag packed with fairy floss, toffee apples, whiz fizz and a two dollar bag of favourite mixed lollies, this is all about re-living your childhood. There is a fresh, effervescence mixed with fresh, bright summer fruits that keeps those sweet flavours balanced, forming an easy and moreish drop.$18ea $15 in any six

2011 Mahi Sauvignon Blanc BUY

Region: Marlborough, New ZealandWinemaker: Brian BicknellNotes: In a sea of Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc it’s always

refreshing to find a wine like this. At Mahi they are not looking for that over the top abundance of primary fruit packed with gooseberry that ends up looking like cat wee. Instead they have built texture and intensity from picking across six different vineyards at different times, with different levels of ripeness. Add a tiny touch of oak and mission accomplished. The final product delivers the classic passionfruit and crushed lime with a touch of smoked almond and herbs. Intelligent NZ Savvy with a difference.$22ea $18 in any six

2012 Pikes Sauvignon Blanc Semillon BUY

Region: Clare Valley, SAWinemaker: Neil PikeNotes: A perfect thirst quencher for the possible

endless Summer ahead… This is an attractive combination of fresh passionfruit, citrus and pineapple fruit flavours that are heightened by great line and texture. This wine has the great advantage of being light and easy, yet still holding a great depth of flavour. $18ea $16 in any six

2011 Isabel Sauvignon Blanc BUY

Region: Marlborough, New ZealandWinemaker: Carlos Orgiles OrtegaNotes: One of the great traits of the wine

industry is so many wineries are small family businesses; Isabel is a true family estate. A business built on family, passion and integrity. A family that has been producing wine in Marlborough since 1982 and their sophisticated Sauvignon Blanc is consistently one of the best to come from the region. This wine parades a mix of pineapple, lemongrass and fresh lime dancing around the palate finishing off with a refreshing, clean finale.$25ea $22 in any six

2012 Axiom Sauvignon Blanc BUY

Region: Adelaide Hills, SAWinemaker: Stephen ClarkeNotes: Value plus drinking here. It’s a refreshing

thought when a $14 drop can outshine wines almost twice the value in a blind line-up. Packed with loads of fresh tropical fruit on the nose and palate, but wait, there’s some complexity too! A flinty, wet pebble like texture adds to this clean, crisp and downright charming wine. It’s cheap enough to buy by the truckload and nice enough to drink a whole lot this summer. You won’t find better for the money! $14ea $12 in any six

Region: Eden Valley, SAWinemaker: John HughesNotes: If you couldn’t guess by the name, John

Hughes is a man who is very passionate about his Riesling. He currently produces three Rieslings from the Clare and Eden Valleys, and there are more on the way. The No.4 is classic Eden Valley Riesling from possibly the best Riesling vintage we’ve seen in a long time. A beautifully fragrant nose leaps from the glass, whilst the palate delivers intense lemon and crunchy granny smith apples – excellent weight and power. $22ea $19 in any six

2004 Delatite ‘Museum’ Riesling BUY

Region: Mansfield, VICWinemaker: Rosalind RitchieNotes: Aged Australian Riesling is truly one of

life’s great pleasures, loved by all and something we have been doing well for years. When you try an example like this Delatite you’re thankful someone took the initiative to hold the wine back, to develop the exquisite toasted honey and spicy flavours, while still upholding traces of fresh lemon & lime with a fine, austere finish. An awesome foodie…$27ea $24 in any six

2011 Elefante Bianco BUY

Region: La Mancha, SpainStyle: Easy Does ItNotes: Another incredible value wine all the way

from Spain featuring Viura, Macabeo, Verdejo and a dash of Sauvignon Blanc for good measure. What you’ll find here is the easiest white wine to drink that you would have seen in a while. Subtle citrus with melon notes and a touch of zest. Quite a blend of new world meets old here and it works for a song!$13ea $10 in any six

wine, that’s true to the Grigio style with lifted aromatics and a fresh, lively mouth-feel. This is easy going, with smart fruit enlightened by Corella pears, lemon rind and honeydew. It all comes together with its gentle spice, soft texture and versatility to work with an array of cuisines.$17ea $15 in any six

2011 Mader Pinot Blanc BUY

Region: Alsace, FranceStyle: Immaculate ImportNotes: The Mader domaine is a very small quantity,

high quality wine producer based in the picture postcard village of Hunawihr, in the middle of vineyards on the Route des Vins. We are big fans of all the wines they produce, notably this fine, racy and floral Pinot Blanc. Classic white flower and citric aromas lead to a crisp and refreshing palate that works a treat with seafood.$25ea $22 in any six

Region: Campania, ItalyWinemaker: Roberto Di MeoNotes: Falanghina: funny name but a delicious

variety. It actually rolls off the tongue quite easily… “Far-la(h)n-geena”. Once you’ve nailed the pronunciation you can try this delicious wine. A fragrant, floral nose gives a lovely portrayal of this crisp aromatic white, with apples and spice continuing on the palate. Textural components create intrigue. While it can stand alone, it does work best with food. $28ea $24 in any six

2011 Artigiano Grillo BUY

Region: Sicily, ItalyStyle: Savoury & Food FriendlyNotes: Grillo is an indigenous grape variety grown

on the sun drenched Italian island of Sicily, a variety that was once only associated with the production of Marsala. Recent years have seen it stand proud as a crisp, aromatic dry white. Bursting with exotic flavours from the orient with touches of nashi pear, lemon grass and fresh basil, it finishes with a lovely grape-skin texture. An enjoyable ‘curio’ drink perfect for the warmer months.$16ea $14 in any six

pretty Pinot Noir at a bargain price, providing all the hallmarks we love about this wonderful variety. 2010 Abel’s Tempest Pinot Noir BUY

Region: TasmaniaWinemaker: Anna PooleyNotes: Van Diemen's Land was a quiet island back

when Abel Tasman first landed; remote and cold with not much going on. Current day Tasmania however, is on fire, with world-class restaurants, a strong arts culture and some of the best produce in the country. The wine they’re creating is pretty good too! The Abel’s Tempest conveys bright raspberry and red cherry fruit that flows with ease, finishing with some slick tannin.$29ea $26 in any six

2010 Fowles Wine ‘Are you Game?’ Pinot Noir BUY

Region: VictoriaWinemaker: Victor Nash and Lindsay BrownNotes: These guys are all about food and wine…

they literally walk around with a gun in one hand and snips in the other. This is a tantalising interpretation of Pinot Noir that glows with juicy red currants and Morello cherry with a savoury side, exposing gamey, spicy and earthy characteristics. Adding a dash of Lagrein keeps things interesting here; you end up with a top value Pinot that goes so beautifully with duck. $19ea $16 in any six

2012 Matchbox Wine Co. Malbec BUY

Region: Clare Valley, SAWinemakers: Nav Singh & Louise RadmanNotes: What a brilliant effort for the first release

from Nav & Louise. You rarely see a red fresher than this, not just the first 2012 red we sighted, it was almost the first wine we tried from this terrific vintage. Adhémar is actually the appellation in the Cotes du Rhône, formally known as Coteaux du Tricastin. Delas have become one of our favourite producers from this part of the world because of how exciting their interpretations of Rhône reds are. Pure, light and yet with a lovely concentrated darker berry structure, complimented by white pepper and spice.$16ea $14 in any six

2011 Best’s Great Western Dolcetto BUY

Region: Great Western, VICWinemaker: Adam WadewitzNotes: Whilst Dolcetto might not be the first

variety you would associate with Best’s, one of Australia’s oldest family owned and operated wineries, they actually have Dolcetto vines dating back to the 1860’s! In fact, those ancient vineyards are still providing excellent quality fruit – as you’ll find here. Shades of rosemary and delicate floral notes waft from the glass. Bright, juicy raspberries and black cherries carry through in a nimble fashion with a savoury control. Italy would be proud.$26ea $23 in any six

Region: Clare Valley, SAWinemaker: Tim Adams Notes: One of the great things about our Red

Plan Pégau Lot # 2009 BUY

Region: Rhone Valley, SAVarietals: Grenache, Syrah, Carignan -

The balance a blend of Mourvedre, Merlot, & Cabernet Sauvignon

Notes: Technically this is a non-vintage wine as it is classified as a ‘Vin de Table’, but Pégau cheekily add a lot number, so this one is from the ‘09 vintage. A benchmark Châteauneuf-du-Pape producer, we had high expectations of this wine, and it did not disappoint. Teeming with dried herbs, an array of spices & pepper blended with an assortment of sunny red fruits. If savoury, French GSM is your thing then look no further… $28ea $24 in any six

$23ea $20 in any six2011 Yelland & Papps BUY ‘Delight’ Vin de SoifRegion: Barossa Valley, SAWinemaker: Michael PappsNotes: A delicious blend of Grenache, Mataro,

Shiraz & Carignan, that really shows the class of Grenache from that “difficult vintage” 2011. The term ‘Vin De Soif’ translates to a thirst quenching wine and that’s precisely what this drop ensures. This is the perfect ‘bistro wine’… loads of enjoyment and oh so easy to slurp over a long lunch. Pretty red fruits and soft tannins conclude the package. $22ea $19 in any six
