It’s been a time for us to pray and attend Memorial Services. To all of our Veterans reading this message, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your courage! *By now you’ve noticed that we have a couple new facilities coming out of the ground in East Naples. One that Tom Cannon and I are especially waiting for is the Culver’s Restaurant. I’ve never lived in Wisconsin, but from those who have, they exclaim over their ice cream and the Butter-Burgers. Tom, Gale and I hope to be the first ones in the door to welcome their arrival! We watch their progress every day. *Also, if you’ve driven up to 951/41 you’ve noticed that the area has been cleared and lots of construction vehicles are moving around the area. That’s the new shopping center called Tamiami Crossings that is about to be constructed on the property. I’ve recently inquired to see if any new stores are planned besides the Steinmart, the Marshall’s, the Ross and Petco. When I get the names of those stores I’ll let all of you know – probably through this newsletter. *Another new building that has just opened is the memory care facility on Davis Blvd. called the “Villa at Terracina Grand” by the Goodman Group, near the entrance to Glen Eagle, and across Proud to live in East Naples A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blow- ing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken. ~ James Dent Quote of the Month: EAST NAPLES CIVIC ASSOCIATION www.EastNaplesCivicAssociation.com the road from County Barn Road. This innovative memory care community is gorgeous! A most delicious meal was served by wait staff dressed in tuxedo’s and white gloves at the Grand Opening. The rooms and common areas were gorgeous! Outside, after the dinner, they had a lovely band followed by a fireworks display. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a magnificent grand opening in my life! *And still another new building has opened, and this one is at Eagle Lakes Community Park – the long awaited Community Center we’ve been hoping for, to give the kids in our community a safe and wholesome place to go after school and during the summer. It also has a fitness center for those a little older than the little ones, and many of whom have already taken out a membership there. The staff will be designing dance classes, exercise classes, Zumba classes, and more in the community room. If you have any suggestions on what you are looking for, please mention it to the staff who would love to hear from you. They want to plan programs that the community is looking for, but they can’t do that without your input. There will also be VPK programs for the Pre-Kindergartners, so you’ll want to sign your little one up because only a limited number of children can be accommodated in the class. continued on page 3 continued from page 3 Soups & Salads, a long list of Appetizers, Chicken & Veal Entrees, Seafood entrees, plus specialty Entrees and Baked Entrees. East Naples Scholarship Winners Announcedby Chris Hagan ENCA Board Member

The East Naples Civic Association and East Naples Foundation are pleased to announce they have selected five scholarship recipients for this year’s awards. All five of the students are from Lely High School and plan to be attending college in the state of Florida. Three of the recipients who will receive $1,000 scholarship to the college of their choice include Keven Lopez, Lyndsay Mahoney, and Abigail Martin. Two additional scholarships are being provided to Florida Southwestern College for $1,000 each to Kare Hayman and Carolina Limones. We congratulate these young scholars and wish them the best of luck in their continued educational endeavors.

by Neil B. Curley ENCA Board Member Three Students from Lely High School receive Congressional Appointment to U. S. Military Academy. One of the ways a graduating high school senior can get accepted to a U.S. Military Academy with a four year scholarship is a Congressional Appointment. For the past ten years it has been my privilege to serve on the Congressman’s Service Academy Selection Committee. However this year as usual outstanding Candidates from Collier & Lee County presented themselves to Congressman Clawson for a Congressional appointment. This year something very unusual happened with the selection of three candidates from one school Lely High School receiving Congressional Appointments. This was truly remarkable and certainly recognizes the wonderful training that is going on at Lely High School right here in East Naples. The students selected for Congressional Appointment were---Christy Thorstenson and George Wheeler to the U.S. Air Force Academy and Xavier Vecchio to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

*Ray and Linda Rosenberg and I decided to try the new Joey’s D’s restaurant at the corner of Davis Blvd. & Airport Rd. We were surprised and happy to see such a nice crowd, good service, really great food, and a nice atmosphere. I hadn’t expected it to be so large inside the facility. The owners, Joseph & Jennifer DePascale, come from the Shores of Seaside Heights, N.J. The restaurant features Jersey & N.Y. style thin crust pizza. They especially take pride in the freshness and quality of their food, which is prepared to order. The menu includes everything you could ever want for a dinner fit for an Italian King, including
