ORIENTEERING

What is Orienteering ? Finding your way to a series of checkpoints shown on a detailed map of the park. Think of it as a hike with a treasure hunt thrown in. Or, if competition is your thing, think of it as a cross country race, with the challenge of finding your own fastest route between checkpoints. Either way, every time is a different, exciting adventure in nature.

Orienteering Cincinnati Inc. (OCIN) OCIN is a not for profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to providing orienteering programs for education and recreation throughout the greater Cincinnati area. OCIN collaborates with MetroParks of Butler County to bring orienteering activities to various MetroPark locations across the county.

Orienteering Events Events are offered year-round in parks throughout the area. For more information about additional events in other parks, visit www.ocin.org. All events offer several courses from beginner to advanced levels of difficulty, and free instruction for first-timers is offered at all events. Beginners are always welcome. People of all ages are welcome.

TROL (Tristate Regional Orienteering League) TROL is a program for youth in high school, middle school and younger which teaches map reading and navigation skills to area students. TROL has a series of 12 to 15 competitions between November and March. Season end awards to individuals and schools are based on best 6 scores. A season pass is available, giving free entry to all competitions plus training activities.

Event Fees $7 for OCIN members, $10 for non-members, $2 discount if you have your own SI timing card. Free for TROL 2014-15 season pass holders. You get a very detailed full color map of the park, which is yours to keep.
