Mass Intentions

EASTER 2018

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

They said to them, “Why do you seek the living one among the dead? He is not here, but he has been raised.” Luke 24: 5-6

In the story of the empty tomb, the Church proclaims that Jesus Christ was so filled with the power of life, that death could not hold Him. In bursting forth from the tomb, our Lord manifested His power to empty from life all the evil that sought to capture and confine it. All of the bitter-ness and regret, the alienation and isolation, the anxiety and worry, and the fear and trepidation that seeks to block our path of life and entrap us, have been rolled away with the resurrection of our Lord.

This Easter, I ask all members of our Catholic faith community to make the commitment to grow more deeply in your relationship with Jesus Christ. Participate often in the sacrament of reconciliation, go to Mass, read the Bible on a daily basis, pray – always pray – and remember that the promise made by Christ thousands of years ago is just as true today as when it was first proclaimed.

May the Spirit of the risen Christ bring great joy to your hearts this Easter, and may you abide in that joy for all your days. With every good wish and blessing this bright season, I remain,

Most Reverend Jerome E. Listecki Archbishop of Milwaukee

EASTER CELEBRATION On behalf of myself and the entire parish and school staff I wish a very Blessed Easter celebra-tion to you and your loved ones. I like to remind people that, as Catholics, we celebrate Easter for 50 days. As spring continues to unfold before our senses, may the signs of spring be reminders to us of God’s presence in our midst. May we be mindful especially of the gifts that come to us through the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. May we be committed to allow the good works that have begun in us by our Lenten practices to continue to grow and abound. It is only our loving acts that we take with us into eternity.

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY Next weekend, the Church will celebrate the Mercy of God with Divine Mercy Sunday. If you haven’t begun the Divine Mercy Novena, it isn’t too late. “For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have Mercy on us and on the whole world.” Fr. Michael

A Special Note of Thanks We acknowledge with our deepest gratitude the gift of this

year’s Paschal (Easter) Candle by Parish Members. May God reward your generosity.

We are pleased to welcome

Ryan Bagatta | Jon Girard | Angela LaRue Lauren Procarione | Kirsten Tanberg

who were received into the sacramental life of the Catholic Church during the Easter Vigil Mass. We ask that God bless

them abundantly as they grow in His love.

EASTER SUNDAY The first light of Easter dawn had begun to creep over the horizon. The steadfast women from Friday's gory events are returning again to the body of their Lord. "Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?" How quickly we return to mundane concerns and how thoroughly God wants to surprise us! Imagine the utter shock upon seeing the stone rolled away, the tomb empty, and a stranger clothed in light proclaiming the impossible. "You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here." He is risen indeed and the world will never be the same.

We know from other Gospel passages that Mary Magdalene made haste to the disciples to proclaim the Good News. We know that Peter and John rushed to the tomb to see for themselves. We know that the wonder and awe of the Res-urrection permeated the lives of the apostles until their own dying day.

Can we comprehend the utterly world-changing nature of this surprise? The historical reanimation of a dead man is of no real value to us. But we know that Easter Sunday is so much more. By the Resurrection of Jesus, life has triumphed over death for us all. The gates of heaven are opened and the treasury of graces is poured out upon the here and now. This Resurrection Day, let us draw near, amazed yet unafraid, to the risen Christ. Let us recall the words of Pope Emeri-tus Benedict XVI, "Jesus is not a character from the past. He lives, and he walks before us as one who is alive, he calls us to follow him, the living one, and in this way to discover for ourselves the path of life" (Easter Vigil, April 15, 2006).

Jesus, you are the Good Shepherd. You know each of us and you call us by name to serve in faith. Help us to respond generously to your voice. Give courage and guidance to those you call to the priesthood and diaconate, to religious life and lay ministry, so they may respond wholeheartedly and serve devotedly. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Please pray especially for: Fr. John & Nicholas Baumgardner (Sons of Dennis & Mary Baumgardner) Sr. Mary Coffelt (Daughter of †Ralph & †Mary Coffelt) Mark Frohna (Son of Craig & Helen Frohna) Sr. Maria Cabrini Gerszewski (Granddaughter of Judy Gerszewski) Sr. Jan Gregorcich (Daughter of †Martin & †Matilda Gregorcich) Br. EASTER PRAYER Make us an Easter people, Lord, rejoicing, renewed, resurrected. May the wonder of Easter morning color every dawn we see. Teach us to cherish each day as a gift from You, as You roll away the stone of yesterday’s sin and let us begin anew. Show us that, just like Jesus, our lives can be extraordinary if we trust in You. Give us this gift of eternal Easter, Lord, that Your Church may be the gospel message You intended. Amen

CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH April is national Child Abuse Prevention Month. It is most appropriate that Child Abuse Prevention Month is held during the Easter season. There is no better time than Easter to celebrate the protection of our most valu-able gift from God—our children.

May the Risen Lord grant them eternal peace and give comfort to those who mourn.

Dr. Timothy Gray is the president of the Augustine Institute and is a well-known Scripture scholar and Catholic speaker. With fascinating detail and examples, Dr. Gray discusses the profound importance for individuals, and for modern society, of properly observing Sunday as the Lord’s Day by exploring God’s gift of the Sabbath in the Old Testa-ment. He aims to help us reclaim our Sunday from the hustle and bus-tle of our busy lives.
