Message FroM the Pastor

“LET uS SING TO THE LORD: GLORIOuS HIS TRIuMPH!”

Dear brothers and sisters, Easter does not work magic . Just as the Israelites found the desert awaiting them on the far side of the Red Sea, so the Church, after the resurrection, always finds history filled with joy and hope, grief and anguish . And yet, this history is changed, it is marked by a new and eternal covenant, it is truly open to the future . For this reason, saved by hope, let us continue our pilgrimage, bearing in our hearts the song that is ancient and yet ever new: “Let us sing to the Lord: glorious his triumph!”

Our entire Parish Staff joins together in extending to you our best wishes and all of the joy of Easter . Since Easter is fifty days long, we will have many opportunities to greet you personally and to thank you for the life you bring to St . Thomas Aquinas Parish .

We extend a word of appreciation to all who made donations of, or offerings toward our Easter flowers and plants, to all those involved in our Triduum Liturgies, as well as those who decorated our churches . Thanks to all who sacrificed to make our Holy Week as prayerful, enjoyable, and inviting as it has been .

We also extend a warm welcome to those who are visitors to our Parish . We are happy you chose to celebrate Easter with us . We extend an invitation to you to become a regular part of our Parish Life . The bulletin cover lists our Mass times and phone numbers . Please call us, if we can help . Welcome, again, and a Blessed Easter to you .

Fr. Matt, Pastor

WelcoMe neW MeMbers to our church! On the Sundays of Easter we celebrate the sacraments in a special way with the newest members to our Church and also with those who have completed their full initiation into our Catholic tradition--all at the Vigil . No one initiates himself or herself into a community . Each of us should take on joyful responsibility of celebrating the grace of Christ as we welcome and embrace these neophytes . A community that rejoices in Christ's grace, a community that believes in the importance of that grace, a community that desires to share that grace, willl want to celebrate that grace together even more fully during this Easter season . Our own faith will be strengthened and nourished .

neW PIano needed

The piano at St . Thomas Aquinas Church is in need of replacement . The instrument is no longer suitable for the many funerals and weddings celebrated at that church . Its tone and tuneability are no longer sufficient for liturgical celebrations (but it might do quite well in the renovated Thomas House!) .

We would like to obtain a new piano for the church . Anyone interested in donating monies towards the purchase of a new piano should contact Nora Lundin (parish Liturgy, Wedding and Funeral Coordinator) at liturgy@paloaltocatholic .org or Chuck Tully in the Pastoral Center (business@paloaltocatholic .org) .

thanks For hotel de ZInk Meals

Many many thanks to the generous, thoughtful parishioners who donated hot dinners and cold food to the homeless folks staying at the Church of Christ during the month of April . They appreciated your kindness so much! – Ruth Chippendale

Prayer shaWl sPrIng coFFee

Welcome all knitters and crocheters! Come join us for coffee and munchies at 10 am Saturday, April 30 at the condo home of Judi Swope, #207, 707 Bryant, Palo Alto . We will share ideas and experiences for our growing Prayer Shawl Ministry which has already provided 26 (or more) handmade prayer shawls to people during the most difficult times in their lives .

The prayer shawl is a simple symbol of God's love created by you in your spare time . It is handmade with many prayers, given a priest's blessing and brought to someone in special need of warmth, prayers and love . Please call Terry 650-714-2131 . We look forward to seeing you .

ebulletIn readershIP exceeds 300 FaMIlIes

As of today, our parish eBulletin is sent to 307 parish families! Who will be Family No . 308? If you are interested in receiving the eBulletin on a weekly basis, send an email request to ebulletin@paloaltocatholic .org . You will be added to "PaloAltoCatholic-EBulletin@googlegroups .com" which is used to send out the eBulletin each Friday morning .

Because of the email format, the eBulletin has no size limitations, so it includes more reminders and news items than the paper Bulletin, and can also include attachmetns, pictures and hyperlinks . The publication deadline is extremely short (anything received by 4:00 a .m . on Friday morning can be included, which typically goes out at 6:00 a .m . that day) so it's the perfect vehicle for last minute reminders . We also use the eBulletin mailing list for occasional mid-week reminders of funerals or late- breaking news .

The eBulletin is an initiative of our parish Communications Board, whose ministry it is to improve communications in our parish . And it's green too!

thanks to our advertIsers

Our advertisers make our weekly bulletin possible . We are grateful to them for this investment in our parish life . When in need of a service, your consideration of those on the back of the bulletin will be most appreciated . It is our way of thanking the providers of these services for supporting St . Thomas Aquinas Parish . If you would like to advertise your business in our bulletin, please call Chuck at the Pastoral Center .

A special thank you to all those who planned, executed, and participated in our Annual Parish Seder Supper . It truly was an educational and prayerful experience .
