FIVE-MINUTE FILMS 10am – 3pm

Create your own five-minute film from storyboarding through filming –inside and out – adding the soundtrack and making a director’s cut.After three days your film should be ready for its world premiere onthe big screen at the Eastgate Theatre on Sunday afternoon.Expert instruction from Tom Swift, film maker with Voice of My Own. Age: 11+ £10 per day, £25 for 3 days (Wed – Fri)

OUTSIDE IN: ARTY ANIMALS 10.30am – 12noon

Enter the secret garden growing in the Eastgate Studio.With its mossy bothy, trees and grass, the gardenjust needs some wildlife. Crafty children are invitedto add their own animals and birds, bugs andbutterflies made with the expert help of artistsJo Powell and Poppy Browne.Age: 5+ £4 (accompanying parents free)

BOTHY TALES 12.10 – 12.30pm

Gather round the campfire to enjoy some tall tales as alocal guest reads a story or two with a special connectionto their own life. FREE

Join the assortment of musicians, performers, storytellers and other funnypeople who’ve taken up residence in the Eastgate this week and enjoysome surprising, informal entertainment. FREE

UPSIDE DOWN: JOYFUL JUGGLING 2 – 3.30pm

Ever dreamt of running away to join the circus? Moira Morrison is asinging juggler, a piano-playing clown, and an upside-down acrobatwho’d like to teach you some spectacular circus skills. Today learn tojuggle. After three days of dangling, throwing, singing clowning andmore you will take to the stage to perform for families and friends onSaturday afternoon.

Age 8+ beginners welcome £4 per day, £10 for 3 days (Wed – Fri)

RIGHTSIDE UP: DANCE 4 – 5.30pm

From ballet to Bollywood, Alex Emerson will teachyou a range of different dance styles then buildthem into a whole routine that just might end upas a sequence for one of the Five-minute Films.Come along to strut your stuff, improve, andenjoy a little bit of Fame in the process.

RIGHTSIDE UP: DRAMA 4 – 5.30pm

Theatre sans Frontieres has an international reputation forproducing imaginative and visually-driven storytelling theatre.Before they present tonight’s performance, members of thecompany invite aspiring actors, writers or directors to take partin a workshop to learn some of their skills, ideas and inventiveness. Erin and January have run away from theircare home before, but this time they’renot going back. With their friend Mousein tow, they head downriver on amakeshift raft. Washed up on themudflats, they meet a strange anddream-like girl, Heaven Eyes, and Grampa whowields an axe and digs for bodies in the black mud. As Erinbefriends Heaven Eyes, January’s suspicions about the old mangrow. What is the secret he’s hiding?

David Almond, internationally famous for Skellig, has adapted thisstage production from his own novel. With a youthful cast, originalmusic and video, this is a spellbinding piece of storytelling.

Pay a final visit to the bothy in the trees, and explore the great outdoors inthe middle of the theatre. Enjoy a pop-up exhibition of animals and birds,flowers and leaves, bugs and butterflies created by crafty youngstersduring the week.

Tell Tale Hearts present

INSIDE OUT 12.30 – 1.30pm and 2.30 – 3.30pm

It’s bedtime already. But instead of getting ready for bed,this brother and sister use their imaginations to turn theirroom into a wonderland of mess! The older brother loseshis special hat and sets off on an adventure to find it; ashirt becomes a fantastical creature while a sock dancerocks the wardrobe; and there’s a mountain top rescuealong the way. After some exciting encounters, they bothdiscover the joy of turning things inside out.

At the end of the show young audiences can dress upand invent their own clothing adventures using propsfrom the show in a free play session.
