bird-watching, fishing in Cranberry Lake and in the surrounding waters; plus tent and RV camping available year round. A popular activity is the Deception Pass jet boat tour. A welcome wagon offers visitor information. 2 Ala Spit – A special favorite of bird watchers. A broad, open area with splendid views. Follow Troxell Road or Jones Road to Geck, and turn toward water to enter parking area. 3 Joseph Whidbey State Park – is is a great place to stroll the beach, enjoy the scenery, and watch winter and spring migrating birds. Picnic facilities near the beach: day use only. 4 Oak Harbor – Located at the water’s edge, the active community is designed for family-friendly fun and lodgings. Oak Harbor is home to NAS (Naval Air Station) Whidbey and you may learn more at the Naval History Center at the Sea Plane Base. Visit Pioneer Way for charging stations, shopping, wine tasting, and dining. e playhouse showcases local talent. e surrounding area boasts miles of pedestrian friendly waterfront plus an indoor swimming pool, skating rink in a historic barn, a working drive-in theater with go-karts, off-leash dog parks, and several golf courses. 5 Windjammer Park & Oak Harbor Marina – e waterfront park includes miles of paved walking, a salt water swimming hole, RV camping and life-sized windmill, kayaking, as well as a vibrant, full service, first rate marina. 6 Fort Ebey State Park – One of two historic forts on the island, this park offers miles of hiking trails. From Libbey Road, turn left onto Hill Valley Road which takes you to the park entrance. 7 Coupeville – e second oldest town in Washington state, and Island County seat, the town has over 100 buildings on the National Historic Register including turn of the century Victorian homes. Located on Penn Cove, home of the famous Penn Cove mussels, many of charming Coupeville’s historic buildings house lodgings, restaurants and shops. ings to see include numerous festivals, the Island County Historical Museum, the Coupeville Wharf and a retro bowling alley. 8 Kettles Trail – Connecting Coupeville and Fort Ebey’s State Park, this trail skirts unusual Ice Age geologic formations known as kettles. With over 243 acres and 35 miles of trail, the Kettles is a popular spot for hiking and mountain biking. e paved Kettles Trail, spanning 2.16 miles along SR20, provides easy access. 9 Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve – e nation’s first historical reserve, and part of the National Park Service, this area is dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of historic lands (over 17,500 acres) and over 400 buildings. 10 Fort Casey State Park, Admiralty Head Lighthouse, Coupeville Ferry – is pre-WWII fort now welcomes visitors to explore its battlements and tunnels, as well as century old Admiralty Head Lighthouse. 11 Greenbank and Greenbank Farm – Once the largest loganberry farm in the nation, this tiny community and heritage farm offers wine tasting, art galleries, shopping and dining. Breathtaking views of Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges can be seen from off leash dog-friendly walking trails. 12 Meerkerk Rhododendron Gardens – Whidbey Island’s peaceful woodland garden and forest preserve is famous for its collection of mature rhododendrons and companion plantings. Explore woodland trails on 10 acres. 13 South Whidbey State Park – An impressive old growth forest surrounds secluded campsites with picnic areas and barbecue pits. Walk along numerous forest trails or take the high bluff trail down to a secluded sandy beach. 14 Freeland – With beautiful views of Holmes Harbor and a wonderful playground, beachside park, and meeting hall, Freeland is home to many antique shops, bookstores, banks, services, charging stations and restaurants. is town is a popular shopping district with locals and visitors. 15 Double Bluff Park – Miles of sandy, off-leash, dog-friendly beaches offer sweeping views of ships, Mt. Rainier and the distant Seattle skyline. e beach is popular with skim and kite boarders. Gray whales visit the area and sometimes can be spotted from the shore each spring. 16 Bayview Corner – e site of the historic Bayview Cash Store, built in 1924, the location includes Good Cheer, a restaurant, shops, wine tasting, nursery and more. Enjoy year round events and Saturday farmers’ markets each spring, summer and fall. 17 Langley – Overlooking the waters of Saratoga Passage and the Cascade Mountains, Langley’s charming streets are lined with historic buildings, shops, bistros, art galleries, wine tasting bars, a coffee roaster, flower-filled walkways, restaurants, a performing arts center and vintage theatre. A museum offers local history. Ring the whale bell when you see one from the shore. Festivals throughout the year celebrate the arts, nature, music, the holidays and more. Explore the Langley Loop. 18 Clinton – At Whidbey’s southern tip you’ll find sweeping water and mountain views, nearby farms and wineries, country roads and beaches to explore. Ken’s Korner is home to a visitor’s kiosk, as well as various services, shopping and dining. 19 Camano Island State Park – Visit the 134-acre park offering year round saltwater fishing, excellent seasonal clamming, secluded wooded campsites including actual cabins, a half-mile self-guided nature trail, and a series of loop trails for hiking and beachcombing. Plus enjoy an underwater park for scuba diving. 20 Cama Beach State Park – e new Cama Center offers meeting space and the new Cama Beach Café. Step back in time to a 1930s-era Puget Sound fishing resort complete with water- front cedar cabins and bungalows. ese have been refurbished, with modern conveniences added, and are available for rent year round to individuals and groups. 21 Elger Bay Elementary Preserve – e Elger Bay Nature Trail Head is located by Elger Bay Elementary School’s parking lot. e Friends of Camano Island Parks maintain the trail and educational signage. 22 Cavalero Beach – A county park offering beach access, a boat launch, and views of Stanwood and the Stillaguamish River delta. 23 Four Springs Lake Preserve – is 50-acre nature preserve offers a peaceful setting for the public to explore 1.6 miles of wooded trails, a large open meadow area, and a small lake. ere is also a meeting facility and lodge available for weddings and events. 24 Iverson Spit Preserve – Port Susan and Livingston Bay birding area. 25 Utsalady Bay and Vista Point Park – Once the busiest port in Puget Sound, Utsalady still shows traces of its lumber/ sawmill past. Amazing views of Whidbey, the Skagit River Delta, and the Cascade Mountains. 26 Camano Island Chamber’s Visitor Information Center – First stop? Terrys Corner for the visitor’s center located next to the Camano Marketplace and coffee roaster. Get information and directions to the many island attractions including the zipline, winery, farms, brewery, inn, state parks, and more.
