Everybody’s a Star for 10 Seconds

*An original creation by Best-Baby-Shower-Ideas.com*

This game is super fun and super embarrassing. Each player will have to perform a crazy stunt for 10 seconds in front of the whole group. Materials Needed:

• numbers cards (see below) • games cards with activities (see below) • 2 hats or bowls to draw the cards from

Hostess Instructions: 1. Before the shower, cut out the numbers cards (one for each guest) and game cards

below and put them in separate hats. 2. 2 ways to play:

1. (This is similar to a game played with Christmas gifts). Have each player draw a number to determine the order of play.

a. Player #1 will draw a game card from the hat. b. She will read the card aloud, but NOT perform the task just yet. c. Player #2 will either steal that card or draw a new card from the hat. d. #3 will either steal one of the first 2 cards or draw a new one from the

hat. e. If a player’s card is stolen, that person must draw from the hat to get a

new card. f. Continue until all players have a card. g. Player #1 will now get to go back and trade with anyone she likes or keep

her card. h. Starting with player #1, each guest will again read her card and perform

the task written. 2. Have each player draw a number to determine the order of play (or just hand the

game cards out randomly and proceed in a clockwise order). a. The player who drew #1 will draw a game card from the hat, read the card

to the group, and perform the task written. b. Player #2 will then draw a card and perform the task. c. Continue with the remaining players.

Sing to Me Guests have to sing the answers to questions drawn from a hat. Materials Needed: • Game cards (see below) • Hat or bowl to hold the game cards

Hostess Instructions:

1. Cut out the game cards and put them in a hat. 2. Either divide the guests into 2 groups or into equal teams of 4-8 players each. 3. Starting with Team 1, each team will draw a question from the hat and have 1 minute

to come up with an answer based upon lyrics from a song or TV commercial. For example, if the question is, “What is your favorite dance?”, the answer that is sung might be “Come on baby, let’s do the twist”. Either have the whole team sing the answer or have the team select one person to sing it.

Fun Baby Shower? With your guests blindfolded, they will use only their voices to put themselves in order. This ice breaker is best if you have smaller groups (under 15 people) and if you have a lot of space. Materials Needed: Blindfold for each guest Hostess Instructions:

1. Have guests stand shoulder-to-shoulder in a circle and count off (1 .. 2 .. 3 .. etc.). They should remember their numbers.

2. Give each person a blindfold to put on. 3. For 30 seconds, have each person repeatedly ask the players to their immediate left

and right one question: "Fun baby shower?" The answer to that question is always: "Yes, very fun." The goal in doing this is to have players remember the voices of their neighbors. No other talking is allowed, except for “Fun baby shower?” and “Yes, very fun.”

4. Next, tell the players to start milling around the room. Have them keep their arms outstretched in front of them to protect themselves from running into other people and objects. During this part, they are to repeatedly say “Baby shower, baby shower, baby shower,” to judge where other people are.

5. After 60 seconds, tell the players to stop where they are and start trying to reorganize themselves into their original positions in the circle.

6. They can only ask “Fun baby shower?” and answer “Yes, very fun.” 7. When they’ve completed the circle, have them count off again while still blindfolded.

They should be in their original positions. This crazy game is adapted from a youth group activity.

“Whose Line Is It?” Baby Shower Style This game is adapted from the hit comedy show, Whose Line is it Anyway? Guests will act out a scene, but they can only ask questions. The Game: You can only ask questions. The Scene: Going to a baby shower. Hostess Instructions:

1. Have all players form a single line or have them sit in a row. 2. The first two players in line go the “stage” and start the scene. They can only ask

questions to act out the scene. 3. The first one who gets stumped or does not ask a question goes to the end of the

line and the next person in line takes her place. 4. Continue until all players have at least one chance to participate.

Examples of dialog: Player 1: Is this the baby shower? Player 2: How am I supposed to know? Player 1: Did you bring a gift? Player 2: Why do you want to know? Player 1: When is Kathy due? Player 2: Kathy is pregnant?

Around the Room Introductions This is a classic ice breaker with 3 variations. Hostess Instructions:

Go around the room and ask each guest to 1. introduce themselves 2. tell how they know the Mom-to-Be, and 3. do one of these three variations:

a. recall a favorite memory with the Mom-to-Be (a nice touch is to video tape these memories)

b. tell one thing about themselves that’s unique or funny Examples: met actress Julia Roberts, tripped on stage at high

school graduation, or owns a pet snake c. tell two things about themselves – one truth and one lie – and

everyone tries to guess which one is which

Problems and Solutions This is a classic baby shower activity where you read a Problem that was drawn from the “Problem Hat” and a Solution that was drawn from the “Solution Hat.” Of course, the two do not go together, but the combination is sure to bring laughs. Materials Needed:

• Pen and paper for each guest • 2 hats or bowls – one for the Problems and one for the Solutions

Hostess Instructions:

1. Divide the guests into two equal teams. 2. Have each player on Team 1 write down a baby-related problem on her piece

of paper and put it in the “Problems Hat.” Examples are: “Can’t get the baby to go to sleep.” “Don’t know which rattle to buy.” “How do I choose the baby’s name?” “How do I handle labor pains?” “What do I do about my feet swelling?”

3. Have each player on Team 2 write down a baby-related solution on her piece of paper and put it in the “Solutions Hat.” Examples are:

“You go to a garage sale.” “Rub your belly until the pain subsides.” “You yell and scream.” “Take two candy bars and call your doctor in the morning.” “Buy the most expensive crib at the store.”

4. Draw one problem and one solution from the hats and read the combination aloud to the group. This can be done by the hostess or any of the guests.

Lullabys and Nursery Rhymes

In this fast-paced game, teams have to quickly come up with a lullaby or nursery rhyme and sing or recite it when it’s their turn.

Hostess Instructions: 1. Divide the guests into equal teams of about 5 players each. 2. Team 1 has 10 seconds to think of a lullaby or nursery rhyme and then sing or recite

it in unison. 3. As soon as they finish, the next team has 10 seconds to think of a lullaby or nursery

rhyme and then sing or recite it. 4. Continue to rotate through the teams. 5. If a team cannot think of a lullaby or nursery rhyme in 10 seconds, they have to drop

out and play continues with the next team. 6. The last team left is the winner.

Let’s Hum Guests randomly draw one of the five lullabys that are in a hat, and group members will have to find each other by humming their lullabys. This ice breaker is for 10-25 players. Materials Needed: • Games pieces • Hat or bowl for game cards

Hostess Instructions:

1. Count the number of players and cut out a lullaby game piece for each one. It’s okay if the groups will have an uneven number of participants.

Magic Trick Mom

http://www.best-baby-shower-ideas.com Copyright 2006. All Rights Reserved.

Mom-to-Be has to guess which cup the plastic baby is under – and she gets it right every time! How does she do it? The trick is that you, the hostess, and the Mom-to-Be will have secret signals that tell Mom where the baby is. Materials Needed:

• 6 plastic cups • Plastic baby or any small baby item that will fit under the cup (diaper pin, pacifier,

travel-sized baby lotion, etc.) Hostess Instructions:

1. Get 6 plastic cups and number them 1 to 6. 2. Before the shower, you and the Mom-to-Be will practice your secret signals.

a. If the plastic baby is under Cup 1, you will scratch the top of your head. b. If the plastic baby is under Cup 2, you will scratch your nose. c. If the plastic baby is under Cup 3, you will scratch your neck. d. If the plastic baby is under Cup 4, you will scratch your stomach. e. If the plastic baby is under Cup 5, you will scratch your thigh. f. If the plastic baby is under Cup 6, you will scratch your knee.

3. When it’s time to perform this magic trick for the guests, tell them that ever since the Mom-to-Be has gotten pregnant, she can sense where baby items are hidden and will now demonstrate her new talents.

4. Have the Mom-to-Be go into another room. 5. Tell one of the guests to hide the plastic baby under one of the cups. 6. Call for the Mom-to-Be to come back in the room and discreetly give her the secret

signal that identifies the correct cup. 7. Without touching the cups, Mom-to-Be will magically find the baby. 8. Play again with a new guest hiding the plastic baby to convince the group that there

is no cheating.
