Network views

The network view you create with the Preside graphical network editor (GNE) is saved in

the Preside database. This configuration is then used in the Preside graphical network

browser (GNB) to display alarm information from the network elements in the system.

When you change and save a network configuration, the Preside database is immediately

updated. The new configuration appears on the Preside GNB, and is used as the default for

the Preside GNE and Preside GNB until you make additional changes.

The Preside GNB can be used to override the default display preferences set in the Preside

GNE.

View selection

Multiple independent views allow you to display the same network in different ways, using

a specific view. Network elements can be placed in different groups and can have different

connectivity in each view (with the exception of traffic display links because they are not

specified in the Preside GNE and are an attribute of the network). Each view displays all

network elements monitored by Preside. Only relative placement, connectivity, and

groupings of network elements are different. Each view can have a different customized

layout, group hierarchy, background map, and default preferences.

View Management dialog

The Preside GNE View Management dialog allows you to select, rename,

copy, create, or delete a view. You can also use the dialog to define the Preside GNB users

that have access to the selected view.

Views can have custom layouts, group hierarchies, and background maps. For example, you

can define a view to display the network from a physical point of view, with the network

elements aligned with a background map.

To display the View Management dialog, select the ViewManagement command from the

File menu in the Preside GNE window.

Preside graphical network editor windows

The Preside graphical network editor (GNE) provides two separate types of windows for

editing configurations: a network window and a subnetwork window.

The network window is the first to appear when you open the Preside GNE. The network

window remains on the screen for the duration of your session. The network window

provides a graphic view of the groups of network elements and the separate network

elements that Preside is monitoring for alarms. The network is shown as a series of

connected graphic objects. You can use the Preside GNE to add, link, move, and delete the

objects. These functions allow you to create a network layout.

A subnetwork window appears when you double-click on a group in the network window.

The subnetwork window displays the network elements and subgroups that are part of the

parent group. A separate subnetwork window exists for each group.

Preside graphical network editor network window

After selecting a view (if two or more views exist), the network window appears when you

first open the Preside GNE. This window allows you to create or modify a network level

view of the system monitored by your Preside software. The network window displays

graphic objects (see Figure 1-5) to represent the network elements and groups being monitored.

Preside graphical network editor subnetwork window

The Preside graphical network editor (GNE) displays groups and network elements

currently monitored by Preside. A separate subnetwork window is

available for each group displayed in the network configuration. To display a subnetwork

window, open the group by double-clicking on it. You can also open the group by selecting

the group and then selecting the Open <group> command from the File or group object menu.

The name of the parent group that the network elements and groups are associated with is

shown in the window title bar.

Preside graphical network editor window menus

The menus and associated commands in the Preside graphical network editor (GNE)

network and subnetwork windows are almost identical. In some cases, commands are

disabled (grayed out). This is because the command does not apply to the current action, or

the feature activated by the command cannot be executed because the controller runs a

version of software that does not support the feature.

Commands that are disabled do not apply to the current action or are not supported by the

software version this controller uses. If keyboard shortcuts are available, they appear on the

menu next to the command.

Use the group object menu to view the details of a selected group. Right click on a selected

group to display the group object menu. See “Group object menu” on page 1-16 for more

information.

Multipoint line group

Multipoint line groups represent a collection of network elements and other groups.

You can add multipoint line groups to a network display by using the Group Display Attributes dialog.

You can change the position of amultipoint line group by clicking on the group and holding

the middle mouse button, and dragging the group to the new position. You can also use this

method to transfer groups to other windows.

You can change the size or shape of a multipoint line group using highlight handles. The

handles appear on a multipoint line group after you select the Edit <group> command

from the group object menu. The Group Display Attributes dialog also appears when you

select this command. You can edit the details of the group using this dialog, including

converting the group to a polygon or rectangle group.

You can display the network elements and groups that make up a multipoint line group by

double-clicking on the group. When you double-click on the group, a subnetwork window appears on the display.

Commands that are disabled do not apply to the current action or are not supported by the software

version this controller uses. If keyboard shortcuts are available, they appear on the menu next to the command.

Use the group object menu to view the details of a selected group. Right click on a selected

group to display the group object menu.

Polygon group

Polygon groups represent a collection of network elements and other groups.

You can add polygon groups to a network display by using the Group Display Attributes dialog.

You can change the position of a polygon group by clicking on the group and holding the

middle mouse button, and dragging the group to the new position. You can also use this

method to transfer groups to other windows.

You can change the size or shape of a polygon group using highlight handles. The handles

appear on a polygon group after you select the Edit <group> command from the group

object menu. The Group Display Attributes dialog also appears when you select this

command. You can edit the details of the group using this dialog, including converting the

group to a multipoint line or rectangle group.

You can display the network elements and groups that make up a multipoint line group by

double-clicking on the group. When you double-click on the group, a subnetwork window appears on the display.

Commands that are disabled do not apply to the current action or are not supported by the

software version this controller uses. If keyboard shortcuts are available, they appear on the menu next to the command.

Use the group object menu to view the details of a selected group. Right click on a selected

group to display the group object menu.
