STANLEY GIBBONS CATALOGUES

If you are going to collect GB stamps seriously, you will need to invest in Stanley Gibbons catalogues. Unless

you are collecting modern GB (many collectors collect either by reign, or pre-decimal or post-decimal), your

best bet is to find them used on eBay or Amazon. To collect from Victoria

to QEII, Stanley Gibbons provides three SPECIALISED catalogues

(Victoria, the Kings, and QEII Pre-decimal). They are much more de-

tailed for GB collectors than the Scott US Specialized is for US collec-

tors!

As there were no votes submitted for other candidates, the slate of offi-cers was elected by acclamation at the November meeting! The officers for 2013-2015 are:

President: Paul Renner.

Secretary: Jim Palmer.

Board Member: Mike Weyers.

Paul has not run for office in our club before. Jim was club librarian. Mike Weyers, a board member whose term expired in 2012, agreed to run again and remain on the board.

Congratulations to the new officers! Let’s all be sure to support them!

DEADLINE AND SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Welcome!

I hope everybody had a wonderful holiday season, and I look for-ward to serving you as President of the club for the next two years. I want to thank all of you for your friendship and support, and will strive to continue the programs and activities that have made this club as enjoyable and informative as it has been for many years. I do have a few new ideas that we may incorporate later, into the meetings.

Since I am a relatively new member, some of you may not know me. I am a 40+ year stamp collector and currently have a small business dealing in collectibles. I have worked in Coin and Stamp shops for almost 20 years and have been a member of nu-merous organizations; a past president of the Phoenix Coin Club and several Lions International clubs. In stamps, my main collecting interest is Mozambique Company, which issued stamps through the early 1940's. I hope to have a presentation ready later this year.

Are there things you'd like to see at the meetings or events we should consider? Please let me know either at the meetings or you can e-mail me at [email protected]. Just a little note: sometimes I am a little slow on e-mail responses, but will reply as soon as possible. Also, please mention that this is for GESS, as I do not have some names memorized yet. Happy New Year and let's have a great 2013!

Happy New Year to all! In lieu of an article, we have photos of the Christmas Party at our December meeting. Articles are still needed for the Echoes….feel free to submit them to me! Sugges-tions and comments are also welcomed.

The ECHOES is published six times a year in January, March, May, July, September, and November. If you do NOT get your ECHOES the first week of the issue month, let me know! I will get another mailed out to you! Remember, email de-livery = COLOR!!

PREXIE POSTAL HISTORY, edited by Richard W. Helbock, © 2003, 2nd edition.

This was originally published in 1988 as Volume 2 in the La Posta Monograph series. Prexie Postal His-tory was the first book devoted entirely to the subject of the 1938 Presidential Series. Five authors (Terence Hines, Walt Cole, Robert Dalton Harris, Richard W. Helbock, and Stephen L. Suffet) discuss their own personal approaches to collecting and ex-hibiting postal history associated with this popular set of stamps.

After an Introduction (Helbock), chapters include Low Value Usages (Hines), Collecting the 3-cent Jefferson (Cole), Domestic First Class Frankings (Harris), Overseas Air Mail Usages (Helbock), and Collecting and Exhibiting Strategies (Suffet). Two appendices: A Tabulation of Postage and Fees Char-gable on First Class Domestic Letter Main During the Tenure of the Presidential Definitives (Harris), and International Air Mail Rates, 1938 to 1946 (Helbock and Henry Beecher.)

This volume is available from the APS, or may be found on Amazon.com.. Shop around, although at $25.00 it’s well worth the price for anyone wanting to take a serious look at the “Prexies.”...
