The Diary of Anne Frank

Now that we’ve finished reading The Diary of Anne Frank we shall explore Google Earth to get an overview of the holocaust and relate it back to Anne Frank’s experience

Page 3: Ed 270

Early On Look up the town Frankfurt, Germany, where

Anne Frank was born and resided until Nazi invasion

Put a “placemark” in this location and record the distance between this location and the next

Page 4: Ed 270

The Great Move Anne Frank’s family moved to Amsterdam,

Netherlands to escape the Nazi invasion. Lookup this location.

Put a placemark in this location and record the distance the family moved in hopes of freedom.

Living in Hiding Search for the business (house) in which Anne

Frank’s family hid. You will not need to put a placemark here.

Look at some of the photos people have posted. Is the it what you were expecting? Record 3 observations.

The Final Move Move on from here to the location of the

concentration camp where Anne Frank was moved to (Bergen – Belsen Concentration Camp). Placemark it!

Take notes of what you notice of the area. Check out the surroundings. Is it what you expected? Why do you think Hitler chose this area for a camp?

Honoring Anne Frank Take a closer look at the Bergen – Belsen

Memorial. Zoom in on the area, look through the photos others have posted, and see if you can find Anne Frank’s and her sister’s memorial. No placemark needed!

Let’s Review Zoom out far enough to get a view of all your

placemarks. Take note of just how much of a journey Anne Frank’s family had to endure. Does it look as heavy as it seemed? Write a paragraph at the end of your notes on how you would have reacted to each move the Frank’s made. Also include how you think Anne would feel about the memorials that now honor the lives lost during WWII.
