Northwood is a national network. Each office is locally owned and operated by highly trained professionals. Their business credentials, dedication and motivation mean that they understand how quality customer service oriented businesses need to be run.

Quite simply Northwood offer a risk-free rental option by guaranteeing the rent to a landlord even if the property is vacant and even if the tenant does not pay the rent. Added to that, their positive approach and determined attitude puts you on the path to success in all your property requirements.

Northwood also has access to investment properties via their network of developers and business associates. Landlords who are looking to expand their property portfolios should contact Northwood.

Director Nin Rehal commented, “In the current climate we have intentionally held back with the estate agency part of our business, as marketing your property “For Sale” for long periods of time can be damaging and result in you receiving

offers far below your expectations. In these uncertain times some vendors should consider retaining their property as a long-term investment. Our Platinum Scheme has attracted a number of new landlords who have had their properties up for sale for long periods of time. We even offer one-year contracts so you can wait until the market picks up or try again next year. Our guaranteed payment can even tie in with your mortgage payment date.”

If you are thinking of letting and would like to discuss Northwood’s Platinum Guaranteed Rental Income Scheme or any of the complete range of traditional property management services that Northwood offer please contact Northwood on 0121 622 5066, email [email protected] or visit the website www.northwooduk.com andNorthwood would be delighted to arrange a free, no obligation valuation and meet with you to discuss your requirements. What have you got to lose?

Spring into SpringIt’s nearly time to put away your winter woollies and start thinking about putting a bit of colour and life back into your wardrobe.

If you get a buzz from a bargain then get yourself down to Encore in Moseley. You can buy top labels for discount prices and you can convert your unwanted designer clothes into a bit of cash to fund your shopping spree. How’s that for recycling?

Encore is an up-market clothing boutique on the High Street in Moseley and if you didn’t know the clothes were second hand you would never guess. Until you look at the prices maybe.

All you need to do is drop in those items in your wardrobe that you have grown tired of or never wear. Encore will review the items, price them and sell them in the shop. Then you get 50% of the sale price.Or you can simply pop in for a browse next time you’re passing and pick up something gorgeous for yourself.

Dolce & Gabanna, Karen Millen, Prada, Ghost, Ralph Lauren, Armani, Boss, Juicy Couture and Missoni are just some of the designer labels available, but you’ll also find high street brands. Prices start from as little as £5.00 for a Ralph Lauren tee-shirt.

Encore is on Alcester Road, close to the main crossroads in Moseley, next door to the Junction pub. There is ample parking in the car park just a little further along.

Hankering after a lusher greener lawn?It doesn’t have to be as expensive as you think. For a fraction of the cost of buying all the weed-killers and fertilisers yourself, GreenThumb can transform your lawn with their low cost quarterly treatments.

GreenThumb is one of the UK’s largest and most trusted treatment services, with approximately 200 branches serving over 400,000 customers nationally through local operators.

Ed and Tom are your local operators and have been running GreenThumb Birmingham South for just over a year. This branch covers an area that runs from Edgbaston in the north, down to Alvechurch/Rowney Green in the south, and from Weoley Castle in the west to Kings Heath in the east.

The basis of their service is four treatments throughout the year. These are as follows:

• Spring treatment• Early summer treatment• Late summer treatment• Autumn/winter treatment

The first three of these treatments help to improve the lawn by application of a fertiliser and a weed-killer with the final treatment being a liquid moss control and winter feed. From these treatments you can expect to see a thicker, greener lawn with a reduction in the number of weeds and moss present.

In addition to these treatments, GreenThumb also offers hollow-tine aeration and lawn scarification. These processes help to reduce compaction and thatch levels, again resulting in a lusher, greener lawn. Finally, GreenThumb can also offer specialist treatments to control diseases such as

Fusarium, lawn pests including Chafer grubs, Leatherjackets or Frit fly and can also provide water conservers and growth regulators, in addition to providing general lawn-care tips for mowing and watering your lawn.

With GreenThumb’s new easy-to-understand programmes, a beautiful lawn has never been easier to achieve. Why do it yourself? Ed and Tom can help you transform your lawn for minimal price and effort, with treatments starting from as little as £15 (including VAT).

For more information, or for a free, no obligation analysis of your lawn, please contact Ed or Tom on the following:

Beautiful windows and doors to see and touchThe Midlands’ only period window and door showroom has tripled in size to showcase a greater range of products including a full-size orangery.

Replacing your windows and doors can be one of the biggest jobs you will ever undertake on your home. And you only want to do it once so it’s worth getting it right first time.

So often we have to put our trust into someone who comes into our own home to provide a quote and show us pictures in brochures or on-line, or maybe hand over small samples.

But now for the first time you can step into a fully furnished showroom and see and touch, and even walk through examples of the finished products giving you a very clear idea of how your home could look with new doors and windows from The Harborne Sash Window Company.

All frames come with a thirty year guarantee and wooden products come with an eight year paint guarantee. Yes, that means you won’t have to paint your timber windows for at least eight years after they have been installed.

The Harborne Sash Window Company has a team of highly qualified designers and installers which means they can see the project right through from initial survey and design to installation with minimum disruption. Carpets and furniture is protected with sticky back plastic and dust covers and the workmen will clean up at the end of each day they are there.

If you love your house and want new windows or doors that will enhance its character then you should go along and see for yourselves what The Harborne Sash Window Company has to offer.

Bengal DelightIf you are a fan of real curry, and if you fancy yourself as a bit of a curry expert then there is good news for you. Edgbaston is the new home to the award winning Bengal Delight.

Located at 207 Hagley Road this smart new restaurant is easy to find and there is ample parking just round the corner on Wyndham Road.

We were not sure what to expect when we went along to do the review. And we were most pleasantly surprised.

Behind the unassuming frontage lies an oasis of calm and good taste. The attention to detail is faultless, from the gorgeous flowers on the tables, to the cute glass lampshades, to the stunning artworks on the walls.

Proprietor Ali Masuk welcomed us with open arms and throughout the evening we were treated in a friendly and attentive manner.

Together with Bash his head chef and business partner - named Best Celebrity Chef in the Coventry Observer last year - he aims to create a unique dining experience that you will want to go back for again and again.

Bash prides himself on his traditional home cooked style food and the use of no artificial colours, stock or food additives. Also all spices are mixed and all sauces made up in the kitchen.

We spent ages poring over the extensive menu which specialises in Bengali cuisine but also features Indian and Pakistani dishes. We had some dry white wine (the restaurant is licensed) and light and crispy popadoms to keep us going whilst we made sure we chose well.

Page 19: ED Apr 2011

After some deliberation we chose the Haash Ka Shashlik, tender pieces of duck marinated in garlic and delicate spices, grilled with capsicum, tomatoes and onions, and the King Prawn Butterfly, slightly spiced king prawn covered in breadcrumbs and deep fried. Both dishes were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. It felt quite strange having duck as I normally associate it with Chinese food but apparently Bengali cuisine uses a lot of duck and a lot of fish and the Bengal Delight menu reflects this well.

For main course we shared the Rangella Khana a Goan dish of chicken and lamb tikka with fresh spinach simmered in medium hot sauce with ginger, and fenugreek leaves and the Makhani Murgh, marinated and tandoor grilled tikka of chicken simmered in a satin smooth tomato sauce made with juices of the roasted meat and we also shared a side dish of Dengi Anarosh Bhajee, pineapple cooked with mushroom and spices, a garlic and coriander naan and pilau rice.

Every dish was to die for, and we were particularly blown away by the pineapple dish new to both of us and now a firm fixture on the favourites list.

Although we were beaten by the rather generous portions so we took the leftovers home with us because wasting such good food would be a crime.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and can happily recommend Bengal Delight.

They run a fantastic take-away service too so if you don’t want to leave the comfort of your own home you can still sample their outstanding food. They can deliver within a 3 mile radius and if you collect you will get a 15% discount.

Bengal Delight is open 7 days a week from 5.30pm to midnight.

To book a table or order a takeaway call 0121 454 7944 or go to www.bengaldelight.co.uk

Bengal Delight is located at:207 Hagley Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B16 9RE.

Martineau Gardens in the SpringSpring is the time we look forward to, to see the landscape around us awakening after the long, harsh winter.

At Martineau Gardens, a community garden in Edgbaston, a warm welcome awaits you.

The Garden, which is looked after by a team of volunteers and Martineau Gardens staff, is two and a half acres of organically managed landscape.

There’s a vast array of features to explore and enjoy within the grounds, including an orchard, woodland, formal gardens with plants and shrubs from around the world, vegetable beds, ponds, a wildflower meadow and a bird hide. At this time of year, highlights of the Garden include the blossom trees – cherry, damson and plum coming into flower.

Spring is of course one of the busiest times for the gardener, planting seeds and potting on plants. At Martineau Gardens you will find compost, manure, wood chip plus a selection of cottage garden plants, trees and shrubs for sale.

All plants are propagated on site and any profits made from sales are ploughed back into the charity. This along with donations, is a vital source of income for Martineau Gardens, keeping them free entry for everyone to enjoy and allowing the Gardens to continue to offer therapeutic horticulture activities for those in need. And you’ll even have any heavy purchases loaded directly into your car by the friendly gardeners on site.
