About ColourpointColourpoint is the largest Northern Ireland-based educational publisher, providing resources across the spectrum of subjects and at all levels of secondary education. To date, we have produced nearly half a million books for Northern Ireland schools and, unlike other publishers, the province is our primary focus.
We are a dedicated team, committed to the future of this region. Virtually all our resources are written and printed locally and ordering from us means your budget stays here and helps our expanding local economy.
As always we are busy keeping firmly in the loop with regard to curriculum changes. You can be assured that when new specifications need new resources, we are in discussion with CCEA to see how best we can help.
If your subject is not in our catalogue and you feel there is a need for resources, please don’t hesitate to contact Sheila Johnston ([email protected]) to discuss it as we are always open to insights and suggestions from the front line of teaching.

History in Close-upMultimedia ResourcesRevised Curriculum
A major innovation for Key Stage 3 History. Colourpoints strong contribution to History teaching in Northern Ireland continues with a complete set of resources to teach the revised curriculum at KS3.
As well as developing the pupils as individuals, as contributors to society and the economy and environment, the resources prioritise learning through Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities. These Skills and Capabilities are clearly highlighted throughout the resources to show where the different requirements of the revised curriculum are being addresses. They also look at the subject in an Irish, British, European and global context.
Well illustrated in a lively and engaging format these resources embrace the revised curriculum at KS3 and help teachers to make meaningful links beyond the subject of History alone.
The multimedia CD engages the pupils in active learning and contains illustrations from the book, indication where web resources can be found, worksheets and interactive pupil activities.

A short teacher leaflet is also available (and will normally be provided free with each class set purchased), and offers guidance on how to use the textbook in class to maximise creativity and develop other Skills and Capabilities.
• Refreshing new approach
• Development of Skills and Capabilities and active learning
• Creativity and experimentation encouraged
• Open, colourful design
• Variety of great recipe ideas
Designed to encourage creativity, experimentation and nutritional awareness, this is much more than a simple recipe book.
An introduction offers guidance on hygiene and safety, practical cooking skills, and making a healthy meal, as well as providing an A–Z of the various types of foods. The first five sections are based on the food groups in the Balance of Good Health and the sixth explores how to adapt basic recipes and design new dishes.
Recipe ideas detail the practical skills required, equipment, basic ingredients, optional ingredients, and step-by-step method, and each section contains both practical and research-based activities.
By giving a twist to traditional favourites and offering tips on variations and optional ingredients, students are encouraged to get creative and take the initiative in the kitchen – developing basic recipes into their own exciting creations.
This resource is an excellent starting point for Key Stage 3 Home Economics, giving students the skills to create their own healthy meals and snacks.
Contents:

Section 1: A starchy start to every meal
Section 2: Fun ways to 5 a day
Section 3: Make it with eggs, fish and meat

In the first decade of the 21st century Northern Ireland is a changed and changing political entity with the transition away from conflict and towards lasting peace almost complete and devolved government restored once more.
The focus of this book is government and politics in Northern Ireland under devolved government. To understand the current arrangements for and operation of devolved government it is necessary to review how these arrangements were agreed and developed. An appreciation of the historical development of the Northern State is essential for this.
A short overview of the history of the Northern Ireland State from its founding in 1921 to the 1993 Downing Street Declaration, marking the beginning of the peace process, is provided in Chapter 1. Pathways to peace, including the Belfast Agreement (1998) and the St Andrews Agreement (2006) are explored in Chapter 2.
The operational arrangements for the Northern Ireland Assembly and the Executive are outlined and discussed in Chapter 3.
Chapter 4 charts developments relating to the main Northern Ireland political parties since 1994 and explores the consequences for them of devolved government. This is linked to distinctive features of the Northern Irish Electoral System which are examined in Chapter 5.
A critical evaluation of key developments under devolved government is provided in Chapter 6 and the conclusion, Chapter 7, offers a synopsis of government and politics in Northern Ireland while identifying the potential for consensus or contention in the future.

They will also be of interest to other young people both inside and outside the classroom, and are the first publications of their nature to be designed and written from a specifically local context.
This pair of textbooks will introduce young people to some of the major world religions and their presence in Northern Ireland.
The books were written by Stranmillis University College lecturers James Nelson and Norman Richardson, in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Inter-Faith Forum and with contributions from members of our local faith communities.
The authors worked extremely closely with these communities to ensure accurate representation and a high level of participation. Positive feedback has been received from them.
It is the authors’ belief that a local perspective should be central to education about world faiths. Northern Ireland has become a place where there is an increasingly rich mix of different ethnic groups and religious traditions, and these books will help young people to understand and appreciate that these faiths are practised within their own community by their neighbours and peers.
