Zion Elementary and Jonesboro High pg. 3 New Elementary School Set For South Clayton The community of the southern region of Clayton County will have a new elementary school by 2021. Earlier this month, the Board approved the $40.25 Million Eddie White Ele- mentary. The future facility will stand at 169,000 square feet and will house 1,200 pre- kindergarten to fiſth grade students, making it the largest elementary school in the county. With current and future exponenal growth in the area, the development has resulted in the need for the new facility. The STEM elementary school will include 75 standard classrooms, 3 computer labs, a 900 square foot mul-use collaborave space for each grade level along with the tradional spaces of an music classroom, art classroom, cafetorium and gym. The exterior of the facility will have separate parent and bus dropoff & pickup areas, an enclosed amphi- theater, an outdoor classroom, four playgrounds as well as solar panels on display as an func- oning educaonal tool for the students. Also, included in the project is the construcon of the districts third bus facility that will be adjacent to the school on the 125 acre property. New Elementary School Set For South Clayton

Brown Elementary

The renovations of Brown Elementary continues at a rapid pace. Phase three of five is now complete and phase four is now under-way. Phase three included nine classrooms and a teacher’s breakroom. Phase four will also include nine classrooms as well and a similar scope. All areas will receive new paint, flooring, windows, lighting, new doors/hardware and modernization of the re-strooms with new resinous flooring, partitions and fixtures. Also, as the project progresses the facility’s upgraded low voltage systems are being implemented which includes, the fire alarm, burglar, surveillance cameras, ac-cess control and intercom system. Also, on the exterior, the two new playgrounds and new LED school sign are near completion. The $6.4 Million renovation was designed by Per-kins + Will and performed by J&R Construc-tion and Development.

and Hines Ward Field

Over the past few months, two new small scale projects have began within the district. The first of those two being the renovations to transform a CCPS newly acquired building to the office space that will house the Safety and Security Department. The building will include eleven offices, a conference room as well as a uniform & armory storage. The new facility will be com-plete by December 2019. The second of the projects includes the renaming of the field at Tara Stadium for Super Bowl MVP Hines Ward, an alumni of Clayton County Public Schools. The pro-ject includes the replacement of the end zone turf, a new digital scoreboard, revitalizing of the grandstands and a new grand entry of the stadium. The Hines Ward Field/Tara Stadium im-provements will be complete by the first of 2020. Both projects were designed by CDH Partners and performed by Meja Construction at $1.8 Million.

Mt. Zion Elementary

Mt. Zion Elementary renovations continues to move forward as phase three begins to take shape. Painting and window installation is now complete with case work and flooring installation to follow. Also, new HVAC is being supplied for the entire building on the roof as brick infill is taking place where the old original HVAC was placed. Coinciding with the phasing installation of a new roof and the inte-grating of all new low voltage systems are taking place as well. Phase three will be complete by the Thanksgiving break and the entire project by Spring of 2020 $6.5 Million renovation project was designed by Perkins + Will and is being performed by Meja Construction, Inc.

The students and staff at Jonesboro High are now even closer to enjoying their new gym and

new music suite. The curtain wall and split face block that is now wrapping the exterior and seeping

into the inside gym lobby creates an elegant look. Inside the new gym building, the ceiling has been

painted with a new center hung scoreboard installed. The top level concrete bleachers have been

poured and painting has began throughout with flooring to follow. On the opposite end of the facility

phase 1B is progressing quickly as well. All steel has been erected, electrical and plumbing rough-ins

are near completion and the decking and concrete slab have been poured. Phase 1B will include the

cafeteria, kitchen and CTAE spaces. Phase 1A (Gym and Music Classrooms) will be complete by the

end of the year and phase 1B will be complete in the Spring of next year. The entire $45.6 Million pro-

ject will be complete at the end of 2020.

Riverdale High The vocational building of Riverdale High is the last building of the school’s major renovation and continu-ing the school’s transformation. Broken into two phases, the building will re-ceive an overhaul both in the interior and exterior. The exterior of the building will receive landscaping, a refresh of its courtyard, a new canopy with benching and placement of light cast stone on the building to all mirror the grand entry of the school. Inside the facility the CTAE spaces will receive new finishes, HVAC, low voltage systems, lighting and re-stroom modernizations. The first phase of will be complete early next year with the remainder of the building comple-tion set for the second quarter of 2020. The Manley, Spangler, Smith, Inc. de-signed $20.3 Million renovations has been conducted by J&R Construction Development.

Upcoming Projects

With several projects ongoing and beginning, the Construction Department continues design and pre-construction duties. The College and Career Academy design continues and the new Morrow High School will conduct the bid opening this December with Board Approval in January 2020.
