Edgeworth Public School
Term 4 Week 5 2018 Principal Report
Welcome parents and friends of Edgeworth PS to our week 5 edition of our Newsletter. The start of this term has been extremely busy with Excursions, Kin-dergarten orientation, school sport, organisation for Year 6 (High School transi-tions) and student assessments.
Our goal is to support ALL students so that they can achieve their potential in a safe and engaging learning environment. We ask that even though we are in Term 4-please continue to read with your child (ren), value and discuss their educational journey and ask them about their learning through what–how-why questions. This can enhance how children learn and grow within the classroom.
EXPECTATIONS Across our SCHOOL
This term has seen many situations where our normal regular staff have been outside of the school due too illness, Professional Learning and school-based events. We do ask that students and parents understand that these situations occur and that our school expectations continue.
We will not except unsafe and/or disrespectful behaviour across our school– these actions will be dealt with in accordance with our Departmental and school guidelines. Students have the right to achieve their potential and strive for suc-cess. Please communicate with us if you have any situation that you may be un-sure about. Thank-you
WE NEED your FEEDBACK for 2019 and beyond
As we move beyond 2018 our school would love the viewpoint of you (parents, community and students), regarding the school. Information will come home in the coming weeks on how you can get involved.
Please support our upcoming evaluations and have your say so that we can con-tinue to connect, succeed and thrive.
COLOUR RUN
WOW!!! Our colour run was a fantastic community event. A big thank you to both the P&C and the staff team for their organisation. The fire brigade and the music were a great addition and the atmosphere, fun and laughter was wonderful to see. Many thanks to everyone that participated.
UP COMING EVENTS
The end of year is fast approaching and there are a number of upcoming events for grades, stages and the whole school. Notes will go home about individual activities and our school facebook page and website is continuously updated. Please contact us if you required additional information or have question about any events—we are here to help where we can.

Walk A Mile Koorie Style
This Year Edgeworth PS is making a public stand against domestic violence and join-
ing Walk A Mile Koori Style. 2018 will be the 6th year of Walk A Mile Koori Style.
Every year has grown in community support and we look forward to an even larger
event this year.
In 2013 the rain, washed the event out. We had 60 registered walkers.
In 2014 saw the 1st successful walk and we had over 250 registered walkers.
In 2015 saw the 2nd successful walk and we had over 450 registered walkers
In 2016 was the 3rd successful walk and we had over 650 registered walkers
In 2017 was the 4th successful walk and we had over 750 registered walkers
Registrations for the boys and men start at 9:00am, at Anne Feneley Lookout, Cor-
ner of Watt Street and Reserve Road Newcastle. Men and Boys participating put on
their
t-shirts. The girls and women will gather in King Edward Park, near the exit gates.
This is the corner of The Terrace and York Drive. They will be entertained while
waiting for the walkers to arrive.
At 10:00am the males will start the walk at the corner of Church Street and Watt
Street. There will be guides by the registration staff at Anne Feneley Lookout and
you will be guided on what to do and where to go.
The walk will be led by an Aboriginal and a Torres Strait Islander male, then by all
the countries of the world. These leaders will be traditionally dressed. They will then
walk up Watt St, on to Reserve Rd, into York Dr (King Edward park) to the top of the
hill at the exit gates. Here they will finish their mile walk. The males will give their
oath to the women, to help end violence against women. Then one of the girls or
women will accept the oath on behalf of all the women and children.
If you register on the Stickytickets (MEN and Boys only) you can pickup a T-shirt to
wear on the day. This is men’s business but women and girls can purchase previous
years shirts.
If students attend the walk and sign in with Scott, their absence from school will be
reflected as school business.
