ZyLAB’s eDiscovery Solution is widely used where data needs to be investigated or reviewed for:
•eDiscovery, Arbitration and Regulatory Requests•Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Public Records Requests•M&A, Contract Discovery & Review•Criminal, Regulatory and Internal Investigations
So, how does this work? Microsoft Office 365 (O365) also has all kinds of eDiscovery functionality available. Isn’t that what I need?
In this eBook, we will discuss what we think is the best approach for your investigation and review needs when you have your data in Microsoft Office 365 and we will tell you how the ZyLAB soft-ware can be deployed in Microsoft Azure and why this can be beneficial to you.
EDISCOVERY IN MICROSOFT OFFICE 365
Let’s try to make sense of eDiscovery in O365. First, we’ll have to determine what type of O365 subscription you have in place, most important ones are E3 and E5. There’s a difference in price for these two, but also with respect to eDiscovery functionality there’s a huge difference. An E5 Subscription gives you advanced eDiscovery which includes Predictive Coding and Text Analytics.
In general, the standard eDiscovery options in O365 allow you to create an export of a specific set of data, that contains information from Mailboxes and SharePoint. The information is exported to a PST file. The information can be selected by search, by mailbox and several other filters.
That is in a nutshell the standard eDiscovery functionality, selection of a set of data.

Selection of data is a very important part; a proper selection allows you to minimize the volume of data that needs to be reviewed.
And yes, O365 gives you much more with respect to making sure that data isn’t destroyed by us-ers or retention schedules by accident. You can put data on Legal Hold and preserve data in-place to make sure that you cannot be accused of spoliation.
So, what about review of data? This is where ZyLAB comes in, O365 doesn’t let you do a full re-view of all your documents. Yes, you can preview an e-mail, but what about related items such as duplicates, attachments and redactions (black-lining). If you want to do a proper review with all the bells and whistles, then you need to put your data in the ZyLAB eDiscovery Platform. Below we describe in more detail the stages in the eDiscovery process.
5 WAYS TO GET O365 DATA INTO ZYLAB
1. Direct Collection from mailboxes and document libraries. ZyLAB can directly collect email messages and documents from O365. Just point in the ZyLAB eDiscovery tool to the correct mailboxes and sites, set your filters (mailbox, date, subject) and start collecting, processing and reviewing the data immediately.
2. Through a Discovery Mailbox. Pre-select your information using the Exchange Admin Center and store all emails in a Discovery Mailbox. ZyLAB will connect directly to this Discovery Mail-box and collect all messages and start processing.
3. Download as PST. Let your IT department make the selection of your data and download these as PST files locally. Use the Upload functionality in ZyLAB to upload the PST files into ZyLAB.
4. Advanced Discovery. Use Advanced Discovery in O365 E5 plan to improve the quality of your selection and limit the number of files to review. Store the result in Azure Blob Storage and di-rectly import the files and metadata into ZyLAB.
5. Continuous Synch. For instant eDiscovery readiness, your most important and most likely custodians, you can set up a continuous synchronization between the information in O365 and ZyLAB. Your information is than instantly ready for any eDiscovery situation!
