However, the launching is con- sidered premature. It is based on consideration that to date there is absolutely no indication of progress made by the Denpasar Municipal- ity for the arrangement of physical infrastructure. “We greatly appreciate the plan of the Denpasar Municipality to sell city tour package. Unfortunately, there seems no preparation to sup- port the city tour,” said one of the legislators of the Denpasar House running the business in tourism sector, Putu Oka Mahendra. Arrangement of the park along the heritage city tour (Jagatnatha Temple-Bali Museum-Jaya Sabha- Catur Muka Statue-Desa Temple and Pasar Badung) should be maximized. YANGON — Angelina Jolie has joined Myanmar’s op-position leader and democracy icon, Aung San Suu Kyi, in sitting down with female work-ers to learn more about their dire conditions. Jolie, who is a special envoy for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, is on a four-day visit to the Southeast Asian nation.

During her meeting with the factory workers on the outskirts of an industrial zone in Myanmar’s largest city, Yangon, Jolie and Suu Kyi witnessed first-hand the con-ditions the women live in, mostly low-cost hostels. Jolie also toured inside the factory.

She traveled to Kachin state earlier this week, home

to more than 10,000 displaced people since a cease-fire be-tween Myanmar’s government and ethnic rebels has broken down in 2011.

According to her trip de-tails, it is unlikely that Jolie will be able to travel to west-ern Rakhine State, where more than 100,000 Muslim minority Rohingya live in apartheid-like conditons in camps.

It is Jolie’s first visit to Myanmar, which only recently emerged from decades of mili-tary rule. More than a dozen ethnic minority groups, mostly in Myanmar’s border areas, have been fighting for greater autonomy since the country attained independence from Britain 67 years ago. (ap)

Police seized half the money and opened an investigation, local media said. The “Drop it like it’s hot” singer had performed two shows in the south of Italy and was on his way to the UK,

where he is slated to take to stage at the Kendal Calling Festival, accord-ing to the AGI news agency.

During a security check before the rapper boarded his private jet, police saw two bags full of cash, totalling $422,000 (384,000 euros).

Travellers within the European Union must declare any amount over 10,000 euros in cash as part of efforts to combat money laundering.

The artist cooperated with the au-

thorities and only asked that he could leave as soon as possible for London, local reports said.

According to AGI, four lawyers have been assigned to the case and Snoop Dogg will be able to reclaim the rest of his money after paying a fine.

The airport incident comes barely a week after the 43-year-old was briefly arrested by police in Sweden on suspi-cion of using illegal drugs. (afp)

LOS ANGELES - South African-born actress Charlize Theron has adopted her second child, an African-American new-born named August, US media reported Saturday.

The baby joins Theron’s first child,

Jackson, who was adopted in South Africa in 2012, according to celebrity news web-site TMZ.

The 39-year-old American actress re-portedly adopted US-born August in July, TMZ said.

Theron and actor Sean Pean recently called off their engagement, following re-ports that Penn planned to formally adopt Jackson.

The critically acclaimed actress won a Best Actress Oscar for her role as a

prostitute-cum-serial killer in the grisly 2003 film “Monster.”

She is also known for her roles in “The Devil’s Advocate,” “The Cider House Rules” and “Mad Max: Fury Road.” (afp)

EvEry Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

The Soft Launching is designed as dinner with the theme of sunset at Jimbaran Beach.

Sol House Jimbaran Bali is a condotel offering the beauty of Jimbaran Beach, which is known as a place to enjoy tempting sea-food menu. The beach stretches from Uluwatu in the south to Kedonganan in the north. It has sparkling white sand, not too strong waves and beautiful sunset that makes Jimbaran a perfect destination for holiday or making investment.

These aspects that make Kurnia

Land and Melia Hotel International build Sol House Jimbaran, Bali. “We chose this location because it is difficult to find beach front area on Bali nowadays,” said Zaid Mahdani President

Director Kurnia Land during Soft Launching Sol House Jim-baran Bali.

Zaid explained that previously he had been looking into various locations. However, he admitted, it is difficult to find a place that wanted. Until finally found the location right across Jimbaran Beach. “Actually there are many

beach front locations, but the sand is not as white as in Jimbaran,” he said.

Jimbaran has been chosen also because there are not so many rep-resentative hotels in the area. Thus, many tourists tend not to choose Jimbaran area to stay regardless the potentials of Jimbaran, which is perfect for holiday destination. “Jimbaran is so far known as eating place. Those who come there are hing-end visitors. With the sunset that creates cozy atmosphere, Jimbaran is a place to visit,” Zaid said.

One of the traders at Kidul Market Bangli, I Nyoman Pasek, revealed on Saturday (Aug. 1), that the price of chili has increased since ten days ago and the surge is very significant. Earlier, the price of red chili was only around IDR 25,000 per kg. However, it has now become IDR 40,000 per kg. Similarly, the price of green chili previously sold for IDR 15,000 per kg has soared to IDR 30,000. “The price increase occurred about ten days ago. Its surge is very signifi-cant,” he said.

He also added that soaring price happened as the supply of chili from outside Bali namely Java was sluggish since the Eid. Cur-rently, he only gets supplies from local farmers. So far, the surge in prices has not affected his sales turnover. Nevertheless, he also

worried. “The supply of chili from outside Bali began sluggish since the Eid. As a result, I just rely on local supply. That’s what makes the price go up,” he said.

Similar comment was also re-vealed by another trader, Ni Ketut Rumani. The price of chili cur-rently reaches IDR 42,000 per kg. This is much higher than during recent holidays such as Galungan, Kuningan and the Eid reaching around IDR 25,000.

“The price of chili is even far higher than during holidays. By all means, it is on the contrary where during holidays the price is expensive,” she explained.

In the meantime, the price of large chili even declines, where previously it was sold for IDR 15,000 per kg but now reaches IDR 10,000 per kg. On the other

hand, related to the coming of dry season, the price of vegetables remains relatively stable. As well as the supply is relatively smooth. The quality of chili, said Rumini, is still quite good. “The price of vegetable is still stable and the supply has no problem, not af-fected by drought,” she said.

When confirmed separately, the Head of the Bangli Industry and Trade Agency, I Nengah Sudibia, said that the increase in prices of some commodities may happen due to higher demand than sup-ply. Associated with the sluggish supply, she said, it is alleged to happen due to a number of regions experiencing crop failure. “The supply from outside is a little, while the demand is a lot. That’s why the price is soaring,” he said. (kmb45)

MANGUPUrA - After regis-tering as a candidate of the regent and deputy regent of Badung in local election, Giri Prasta-Suiasa package and Sudiana-Sutrisno package are not allowed to pull out from the nomination. The Badung Electoral Commission (KPU) asserted that each can-didate duo pulling out from the democratic event will be subject to criminal sanction.

“We will impose criminal sanctions and fines for the can-didate duos pulling out after registering themselves to the Electoral Commission. It has been set forth in the Law No. 8/2015 regarding local elec-tions,” said Chairman of the Badung Electoral Commission, A.A. Gede Raka Nakula.

According to him, as set forth in Article 191 of the law, criminal penalty imposed to candidates pulling out is imprisonment with the shortest of 24 months and a maximum of 60 months. However, the candidate duos will automatically disqualify when failing to complete the require-ments specified.

“Or the smallest fine is worth IDR 25 billion to IDR 50 billion. This applies to governor, regent and mayor that deliberately pull out after registering themselves at the Electoral Commission.

However, the candidate duos will be automatically disquali-fied if they cannot meet the requirements, but so far the two candidate duos have qualified,” he explained.

It does not only apply to candi-date duos of the regent and deputy regent. According to Nakula, the law on the election also applies to political parties and the coalition of political parties pulling out the candidate duo having been reg-istered to the Badung Electoral Commission.

“Political parties and coali-tions of political parties are also prohibited to pull out their candidate or their support. If it is committed, political parties will be unable to nominate the replacement of the previous can-didate,” he said.

He further explained that the Badung Electoral Commission is currently carrying out data verifi-cation such as the diploma legal-ity of each candidate. As has been known, in the organization of the Badung local election 2015, the government of Badung County has budgeted approximately IDR 33.6 billion. It is further divided that Electoral Commission re-ceived IDR 19.5 billion, Electoral Supervisory Board received IDR 5.2 billion and security budget got IDR 8.7 billion. (kmb27)

Attendance at Harlem’s Studio Museum has soared from 63,298 in the 2009-10 fiscal year to 111,086 in 2013-14. Restaurants like ce-lebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson’s Streetbird Rotisserie are giving out-of-towners and locals a rea-son to head uptown for a meal. And Harlem is the second-most requested neighborhood in Man-hattan after midtown at Big Apple Greeter, which connects tourists

with volunteers for free neighbor-hood visits.

Even the Museum of Modern Art, located in midtown, is en-couraging trips to Harlem with an online self-guided walking tour inspired by a MOMA exhibition, Jacob Lawrence’s “Migration Se-ries” paintings. Lawrence painted scenes of African-Americans from the rural South moving to Northern cities in the early 20th century.

“Harlem is an iconic, beautiful, world-renowned New York City enclave that continues to reinvent itself, drawing visitors from far and wide,” said Fred Dixon, president of the city’s tourism agency, NYC & Company. “New restaurants, shops, galleries, vibrant entertain-ment and nightlife have positioned Harlem as a must-see neighbor-hood on anyone’s New York City itinerary.” (ap)

Stand outside the marquee at 253 W. 125th St. and look east across the street for a tall, stately building bearing the words “Ho-tel Theresa.” It’s no longer a hotel, but for decades it hosted athletes, entertainers, business executives and other African-

Americans turned away by hotels downtown. Fidel Castro stayed there in 1960.

In the ceremony, the customary villagers of Kesiman consisting of 33 hamlets became patih (intermediary of deities) for devotional works. They put into trance and then take kris dagger to be stabbed in his chest. It is really horrible when the dagger, sharp and sacred objects, is stabbed in human chest. Ritual as a symbol of gratitude expression is carried out through a worship to sanctified effigies (Rangda, Ratu Ayu and Barong) in the temples of Kesiman customary village. After paying homage, some people carry the sanctified effigies.

The ritual is commenced by mapeed or parade procession to the temple where ngerebong is car-ried out and all the villagers put on customary at-tires. Each temple at Kesiman customary village takes out the sanctified effigies. There are also sanctified effigies from outside Kesiman that are engaged in the procession such as those from Pe-mogan, Singgi-Sanur, Suci Hamlet, Bali Beach, Sawangan-Bukit, Ubung, and some others.

Another unique tradition in this Pangerebon-gan ritual is cockfight performed by a group of people. When the cockfight taking place as a part of the ceremony, it looks like dominating the stab-bing tradition. Meanwhile, the ngerebong itself is done by surrounding counter-clockwise the wantilan hall where people are holding cockfight. Anak Agung Pemecutan from Dajan Tangluk

MANGUPURA - The number of Indonesian society attending higher education is still relatively low. Not more than 20 percent of the people enjoy the education up to college. It was stated by the Rector of the Udayana University, Prof. Dr. I Ketut Suastika recently.

“I think there are many people that just completed primary school. In contrary, in remote places most people have not been educated,” he said.

He hoped that the government’s attention to the education sector in Bali can be increased to catch up over the years. Moreover, ahead of local leader election 2015, the elected regents or mayor must have the favor of the education sector.

“We do hope the newly elected regents will remain to have a good relationship to the Udayana Uni-versity and still want to assist in the matter of facilities related to education,” he hoped.

On the other hand, he said, the quality of education in Indonesia, including Bali, is far left behind compared to developed countries such as the United States, Europe, Australia and Japan. It is even still far behind Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Actually, the education sector becomes one of the determin-ing progresses of a country, includ-ing the region.

Rector Prof. Suastika said that the education sector clearly has cor-relation with the progress of a na-tion. Evidently, the more educated people in a country, particularly at higher education, the more ad-vanced the nation will be.

According to him, the under-development of Bali in education sector should be caught up. “Few decades ago, we were more fabu-lous than Malaysia, but now in this competition we are far left behind. So, this is a difficult task to be caught up,” he said. (kmb27)

Ngerebong, a stabbing tradition at Kesiman Customary Village

DENPASAR - Ngerebong has be-come a tradition for the Kesiman customary village, Denpasar. A unique ritual called ngurek (stabbing kris dagger in the chest) is performed on the piodalan or anniversary of the Pangerebongan Temple falling every 210 days on Redite Pon Medangsia, Sunday (August 2) or eight days after Kuningan celebration.

hamlet, one of the mediums (pedasaran) at Kesi-man said the cockfight would cause the rooster to injure and bleed. Such blood sprinkle was then used as sacrifice locally known as tabuh rah as a series in the animal sacrifice ritual or mecaru.

The man usually called Gung Cut added that in the past when the gambling like ceki

cards and cockfight was prohibited inten-sively, the Kesiman customary village did not hold the tabuh rah or cockfight ritual. However, what happened next was that all the intermediaries of the local deities (patih) were in trance and got injured by the kris dagger usually used to stab.

Another belief owned by Kesiman custom-ary village was that people were not allowed to go out or travel during the day of Pangere-bongan ritual. If people broke it, undesired thing might happen to them. (kmb)

Recent conversations between Biden’s associates and Demo-cratic donors and operatives have led to speculation that Biden will challenge front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton for the party’s nomination, and individuals close to Biden have started looking into what options might be available to him if he were to run, such as potential staff in the early-voting state of Iowa. Biden is expected to make a final decision as soon as early September, according to those familiar with his plans.

The people close to Biden spoke to The Associated Press on the con-dition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the deliberations.

The renewed focus on Biden

comes amid some signs of weak-ness for Clinton, including declines in her favorability among voters in recent polling. Sen. Bernie Sand-ers, who is challenging Clinton for the Democratic nomination, has been attracting large crowds with a liberal economic message, evidence of a hunger within the party for an alternative to Clinton’s candidacy.

Biden’s entry could fundamen-tally reshape the dynamics of the Democratic primary elections. Yet Clinton remains enormously popular among Democrats. She has raised nearly $50 million for her campaign.

There are few signs, meanwhile, that Biden is taking solid steps to-ward launching a campaign. He has had little interaction with a “draft

Biden” group pushing him to run, and has yet to look for office space in early voting states or raise money for a potential bid.

Kendra Barkoff, the vice presi-dent’s press secretary, said Biden was spending his time working on President Barack Obama’s agenda, not on planning his own potential presidential campaign.

“As the Biden family continues to go through this difficult time, the vice president is focused on his family and immersed in his work,” Barkoff said.

Biden’s son, Beau, died of brain cancer in May. The younger Biden’s death prompted an outpouring of support for the vice president, who also lost a daughter and his first wife in a car accident in 1972.

Since Beau Biden’s death, his father has surrounded himself with longtime confidants and former aides who can provide comfort and emotional support — but also have intimate ties to Biden’s two previ-ous presidential campaigns.(ap)

NEW YORK — Dozens of people stopped in Manhattan intersections gazing at photos of endangered animals shining on the side of the Empire State Build-ing. Organizers say the Saturday night event was a first-of-its-kind live video projection.

It drew large crowds of spec-tators, many taking photos with their smartphones. Images of en-

JOHANNESBURG — A lion researcher in Zimbabwe on Sat-urday cast doubt on a report of the shooting death of a male lion who was a companion of Cecil, a famous lion killed by an American hunter in early July.

The satellite collar on a second lion named Jericho has been send-ing normal signals, indicating the lion is alive and moving around, researcher Brent Stapelkamp told The Associated Press.

A report on the Facebook page of an advocacy group called the

Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force said Jericho was killed Saturday and that it would pro-vide more details when they were available.

The killing of Cecil earlier this month sparked an international outcry. Zimbabwean authorities called it an illegal hunt.

Cecil had befriended Jericho, according to Stapelkamp. To-gether they oversaw two prides, one with three lionesses and seven cubs and another with three lion-esses.(ap)

Biden associates resume discussion about presidential run

WASHINGTON — Vice President Joe Biden’s associates have re-sumed discussions about a possible 2016 presidential run after largely putting aside such deliberations during his son’s illness and following his death earlier this year. But Biden has yet to tell his staff whether he will run or personally ask them to do any planning for a potential campaign, according to several people close to the vice president.

AMLAPURA - In order to determine the cause of great fire in the warehouse of pharmaceuticals of the Karangasem Health Agency, a further investigation was made again by the Karangasem Police, Saturday (Aug. 1). Investigators deployed a team of the Bali Police Forensic Laboratory.

It has not been known about chemi-cal reactions that caused drug explosion followed by a fire in the warehouse next to the main building of the Karangasem Health Agency at Galiran, Friday after-noon (Jul. 31). In the meantime, the Head of the Karangasem Health Agency, IGM

Tirtayana, said that the losses due to the disaster were estimated to reach IDR 3.5 billion.

The warehouse of drug supplies for 12 public health centers in Karangasem was on fire and left ruins only. In addition to old drugs, there were also drugs newly brought in worth approximately IDR 200 million. Tirtayana said that this year the Health Agency already completed the procurement of medicines to 12 public health centers valued at IDR 1.5 billion. However, the arriving drugs are just worth IDR 200 million and kept in the pharma-

ceutical warehouse. “Since only a small numbers of drugs tendered have come and put in the warehouse, it will not become a problem for the supply of drugs this year,” he said.

According to Tirtayana, in order to fulfill the drug supply for 12 public health centers this month, his party already gath-ered the heads of the public health centers in Karangasem. It was meant to check what medication has run out in the public health centers and been urgent to be supplied. For this’ month drug supply, he added, his party already contacted the Bali Health Agency

to help the supply for next a month. As reported earlier, the fire in the phar-

maceutical warehouse began when seven employees of the Health Agency were working overtime to sort the expired drugs. As planned, the officers were doing over-time until four o’clock in the afternoon. However, when the six employees were busy sorting drugs around 3:30 p.m., and another was going out, suddenly an ex-plosion was heard from a cardboard with unknown content. The small explosion was followed by a thick cloud of smoke and sparks. (013)

Based on observation of Bali Post, from three o’clock in the afternoon dozens of vehicles pass-ing on Jalan Bypass I.B. Mantra already led to Lebih Beach. Such condition had made the traffic at the Lebih-Jalan Bypass IB Mantra intersection faltered. Moreover, thousands of motorcycles and cars thronged the lane of Jalan Bypass I.B. Mantra in the area of Lebih. In the meantime, on Lebih Beach,

some residents looked to occupy the shoreline protected with a row of stone breakwater. Although there is no longer an overlay of sand, this condition does not dissuade visitors to enjoy the ocean expanse of Lebih Beach.

“Lebih Beach is indeed the favorite of my family to enjoy the scenery while unwinding after completing the activities and religious rituals yesterday,”

said Made Jaya, a resident of Klungkung.

However, Jaya deeply regret-ted the current condition of Lebih Beach that does not have an overly of sand. “As a result of abrasion, this time the edge of Lebih Beach is covered in boulders. It no longer has an inch of sand for family to play. In my opinion, this is very unfortunate. In my childhood, the edge of the beach was far away in the south and the sand remained available right here,” he said while pointing to a row of breakwater.

In the meantime, a number of domestic travelers visiting this loca-tion can also pamper their tongue by tasting typical culinary of seafood offered on Lebih Beach. This can

be seen from every lesehan (low-dining table style) food stalls that line on seashore of Lebih Beach having been fully occupied by cu-linary connoisseurs.

I Wayan Panye, one of the food stall owners, admitted that even though passing the moment feast day, so far the increase in visitors remains to happen. “After feast days, his sales usually increased about 30 to 50 percent from usual days. Until now, though the holiday has gone, the increase remains to happen,” he said.

In the meantime, the government itself has participated in advanc-ing the Lebih Beach attractions as a marine tourism. One of them is by supporting the organization

of Lebih Beach Festival regularly held once a year. It aims to promote Lebih Beach coastal tourism po-tential, so that Lebih Beach can be transformed into one of the tourist destinations in East Gianyar. More-over, Lebih Beach has a supporting capacity that can become the main attraction such as the activity of fishing with traditional boat and low-dining table style food stall of-fering distinctive seafood of Lebih Beach.

“From this development, we hope that Lebih village as a marine tourism can boost the economy of local community and surrounding areas,” said the Head of the Gianyar Livestock, Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, I Made Raka. (nik)

WASHINGTON - Delegates negotiating a vast Pacific free-trade agreement have failed to reach a fi-nal deal after several days of intense talks in Hawaii, dealing a setback to US President Barack Obama.

The delay complicates his efforts this year to secure the historic ac-cord, which risks becoming dragged into the 2016 presidential election debate.

US Trade Representative Mi-chael Froman, in a statement late Friday on behalf of the 12 countries involved in the talks on the island of Maui, insisted that significant progress had been made on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, the most ambitious trade deal in decades.

“After more than a week of pro-ductive meetings we’ve made sig-nificant progress and will continue on resolving a limited number of remaining issues, paving the way for the conclusion of the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations,” Froman told a press conference.

Negotiators were “more confi-dent than ever that the TPP is within reach,” he said, adding that the Pa-cific Rim countries would continue bilateral discussions to try and iron out remaining differences.

Already eight years in the mak-ing, TPP would be a huge bloc encompassing 40 percent of global trade and part of Obama’s much-vaunted “pivot” towards Asia in the face of an increasingly asser-tive China, which is not included in TPP.

The press conference was de-layed several hours as the countries attempted to thrash out a deal in what had been billed as the home stretch.

The failure by trade ministers to wrap up the accord Friday was a blow to Obama -- who faces op-position to the deal from fellow Democrats -- as it could see the TPP become campaign fodder ahead of November 2016 elections.

“This setback to the TPP in Maui shifts the momentum in the national debate,” said House Democrat and accord opponent Rosa DeLauro.

“The impasse highlights very troubling issues for anyone con-cerned about the future of the American middle class.” (afp)

“Spaniards need to look at their own eco-nomic and social situation and based on that evaluate what their country needs, indepen-dently of what happens in Greece or wher-ever,” he told centre-left daily El Pais.

“The danger of becoming Greece is always there and it will become reality if the same mistakes that were imposed on Greece are repeated,” he added.

Varoufakis, an economist with unortho-dox ideas about the euro and Greece’s debt restructuring, resigned the day after Greeks voted against creditor bailout terms in a July

5 referendum. The Greek government later accepted even

harsher terms in a deal at an all-night eurozone summit on July 12-13.

With a general election looming later this year, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has used the economic turbulence in Greece as a chilling backdrop to promote his own government’s crisis management.

Rajoy’s conservative Popular Party says that if new far-left party Podemos -- a close ally of Greece’s ruling Syriza -- forces a change of course on the economy after the election, Spain could plunge back into cri-sis.

Asked about the Spanish government’s statements, Varoufakis said Greece “has be-come a sort of football for right-wing politi-cians, who insist on using Greece to frighten

their population.”Spain emerged in 2013 from five years of

on-off recession and the government forecasts the economy will grow 3.3 percent this year -- more than twice the average forecast for eurozone countries.

Madrid aims in 2016 to bring the deficit under the level of three percent of economic output required by European treaties.

It forecasts the country’s public debt will equal 98.5 percent of the economy this year, compared with Greece’s debt ratio of more than 177 percent.

But its unemployment rate is still dire at more than 22 percent -- the second-highest in the eurozone after that of bailed-out Greece.

Rajoy has forecast Spain will have cre-ated a million jobs overall in 2014 and 2015. (afp)

DENPASAR - Re-launching of the city tour program by the Denpasar Municipality through the Tourism Office gets apprecia-tion from tourism stakeholders. However, the success of this program requires politi-cal support from the ranks of the Denpasar House. It is important to do because it has something to do with the budget allocation for the introduction of this program in early stages, especially for provision of support-ing infrastructure.

It was revealed in the working meeting between the commissions of the Denpasar House with the Tourism Office, Indonesia Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) of Denpasar, Association of Indonesia Tours and Travel Agency (ASITA), Indo-nesia Tourist Guides Association (HPI), Indonesia Marine Tourism Association (Gahawisri), Indonesia Association of Recreation Park (PUTRI), academicians, and Denpasar Transportation Agency, some

time ago.Chairman of the ASITA Bali, Ketut

Ardana, accompanied by his Deputy Putu Winastra revealed that if the program fails his party will have the first impact because his association selling the package to travel-ers. “If this program fails, we are the most ashamed of it,” said Ardana.

On that account, for the success of this program is required the support of all parties, including the ranks of people’s

representatives in Denpasar House. At this early stage, ASITA appreciated be-cause it has been involved in preparing the program as well as the pre-launching. This measure is considered positive because this time the government first involves his party. “We hope that we can be continuously involved, especially in terms of policy change, such as the ad-mission ticket at tourist attraction,” said Putu Winastra. I Kadek Satria, a lecturer at the Faculty of Hinduism and Culture in the Hindu University of Indo-nesia (Unhi), said that sarad was ritual paraphernalia in the higher level symbolizing the rwa bhineda or basic dualism. It was made from flour batter in such a way so that the ingredients symbolizing the nature. The use of flour as the smallest part of rice had the meaning as seriousness of devotion.

The flour batter was kneaded and then shaped in accordance with the content of this world. There were celestial bodies like the sun, moon, and stars. Similarly, there were also human being with all activities, plants like flowering plants, large trees, medicinal trees and other small trees as well as two-legged animal, one-leg animal and animals having more legs. It was also described the heavenly life like the angles.

According to Kadek Satria, not all Hindu ceremonies in Bali used the sarad cake. The cake made like kayonan (mountain) was specially made for a grandiose ritual like padudusan agung used to purify nature. “It resembles kayonan as an aesthetic element symbolizing tattva (philosophy). Kayon is the beginning of story and literature,” he said.

Sarad was made by a particular person or artisan of the offerings. Meanwhile, the colors in use were adjusted the diverse colors of nature. In a grandiose ceremony, like padu-dusan agung, it was usually installed three days before the event or after the preparation of tawur offerings. Many people also installed it by consensus of the committee or in ap-propriate with the situation.

In the mapedudus ritual, it was

presented along with sate tunggeh or sate tegeh. Afterward, the satay was then arranged to resemble how the sarad cake was prepared, but all the ingredients were made from pork. The satay was arranged in such a way and had a meaning. At the bottom, there was a pig’s head as a symbol of rajas (preservation).

Sate tunggeh symbolized rajas while sarad symbolized sattva (cre-ation). With the balance of sattva and rajas, the ritual was considered to be successful and ended properly. Behind the sate tunggeh was usually put different types of offerings such as bagia pala kerti and penyegjeg symbolizing the content of nature presented by devotees to God.

Kadek Satria said the philosophy of sate tunggeh was actually describ-ing human life where it was complet-ed with three qualities affecting the human life itself known as tri gunas consisting of sattva (creation), rajas (preservation) and tamas (destroyer). Each guna existed in every human being, so that they were symbolized in the offerings. “By balancing sattva, rajas and tamas, it is believed that people can have reunion with God,” he explained.

Kadek Satria affirmed that when sattva, rajas and tamas attained bal-ance, it would result in a good citta (heart, mind). “Here, we will be in balance called citta wretti nirodha, which means that with a balanced mind we attain happiness,” he said. (kmb)

JOMBANG - President Joko (Jokowi) Widodo expressed a hope that Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) as one of the largest Muslim organizations in Indonesia can serve as a bridge by showing to the world that Islam is a source of peace.

“I have a great hope that NU to not only demonstrate about the understanding of civilization but also Islam as a form of mercy,” the president said when inaugurating the opening of 33rd NU congress here on Saturday.

In addition, the president also expected that NU keeps co-operating with various circles in effort to improve the world order.

“Especially in overcoming poverty and inequality as the root cause of terrorism,” Jokowi pointed out.

According to the president NU has an important role to play by demonstrating a moderate Islamic lifestyle.

The president further appreciated the theme of the confer-ence, namely “To Strengthen Islam Nusantara (archipelago) in a bid to establish civilizations of Indonesia and the world.”

On the occasion, Jokowi also revealed the recent visiting British Prime Minister David Cameron who wished to know a lot about Islam in Indonesia which is tolerant and peaceful.

“During the visit he was interested in studying the history of Islam in our country, the advanced Islam and tolerance. He also wanted to know more about Muslim organizations in Indonesia,” the president stated.

Jokowi also stressed the importance of building good com-munication among religious adherents.

“The existing tolerance should not be marred by a few problems,” the head of state added.

Earlier, Minister for Rural and Backward Village Develop-ment and Transmigration Marwan Jafar has expressed hope that the 33rd Congress of Nahdlatul Ulama will serve to boost efforts to develop rural areas.

He said here on Saturday that he hopes for this because NU members are mostly based out of rural regions.

“As the minister of rural development and a member of NU, I certainly hope that the congress motivates other members to participate in rural development efforts, which is part of their duties,” the minister explained in a press statement.

If intolerance continues to prevail in various regions, Jafar believes it will be difficult for villages to progress and develop, even if they have the will for it. This is because intolerance makes regions vulnerable to provocation that may lead to riots. (ant)

JAKARTA — Indonesia and Tur-key agreed Thursday to strengthen their intelligence cooperation as a way to bolster their efforts to combat terrorism and prevent the spread of radicalism.

The agreement was achieved in a meeting between Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo and his Turkish counter-part Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is on a three-day visit to Indonesia.

In a joint news conference after the 90-minute meeting, Erdogan said Turkey has stopped 6,000 foreigners who were suspected of heading to Syria and Iraq to fight alongside IS, and it has deported about 1,600 of them to their home countries. More than 1,300 have

been arrested and detained.“That shows that our country has

become overwhelmed by the crisis related to terrorism and refugees,” he said, suggesting that other countries in the region must also be involved in the solution.

An estimated 500 fighters from Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation, have reportedly joined the Islamic State group. Only 12 were deported to Indonesia. In a speech ear-lier in the day at the National Defense Institute, Erdogan denied what he de-scribed as “black propaganda” that Tur-key is assisting terrorist organizations. He said actions by the Islamic State

group run against Turkey’s “religion, conscience, customs and tradition.”

“Turkey has never been involved in these kinds of scenario until today, and will never be part of it.”

He said security of both Turkey and the international communities were un-der threat due to the situation in Syria.

“And unfortunately this regime (Bashar al-Assad) is in an ongoing battle against its own people, using all kinds of dirty means including chemi-cal weapons and ballistic missiles,” he said.

He added that Daesh — an Arabic acronym for the IS group — is a product of the Syrian conflict. (afp)

Government officials will ask territories near the French island of Reunion in the western Indian Ocean to alert them if they find any debris that could be from a plane, said a transport ministry official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

A wing flap suspected to be from the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 was found Wednesday on Reunion. It arrived Saturday at a French military testing facil-ity, where it will be analyzed by experts.

Air safety investigators, includ-ing one from Boeing, have identi-fied the component as a flaperon from the trailing edge of a Boeing 777 wing, a U.S. official has said. Flight 370 is the only missing 777 and many are convinced the flap comes from the ill-fated jet.

Malaysia’s transport ministry confirmed Sunday that the flaperon has been identified as being from a 777, saying it had been verified by French authorities together with Boeing, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board and a Malaysian team. Experts will try to establish whether the part comes from Flight 370, which disappeared on March 8, 2014, while en route from Kuala Lum-pur to Beijing with 239 people on board.

The experts are expected to start their inquiry on Wednesday. On Monday, an investigating judge will meet with Malaysian authorities and representatives of the French aviation investigative agency, known as the BEA.

Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said in a statement Sunday that representatives from

Malaysia, the U.S., China, France and Boeing would take part in the verification of the flaperon. About two-thirds of those aboard Flight 370 were Chinese.

Liow said Malaysia’s Depart-ment of Civil Aviation was reach-ing out to authorities in territories near Reunion to allow experts “to conduct more substantive analysis should there be more debris com-ing on to land, providing us more clues to the missing aircraft.”

“I urge all parties to allow this crucial investigation process to take its course. I reiterate this is for the sake of the next of kin of the loved ones of MH370 who would be anxiously awaiting news and have suffered much over this time,” Liow said. “We will make an announcement once the verification process has been completed.” (ap)

COQUELLES, France — French riot police have sprayed migrants with a chemical irritant as they tried to storm the Channel Tunnel, and the British and French interior ministers said the nightly attempts to reach Britain are part of a “global migration crisis” that needs an international solution.

The migrants, who broke down several security fences late Saturday, were forced to retreat by riot police as they attempted to breach the final fence near the entrance of the 50-kilometer (30-mile) tunnel under the English Channel.

The migrants, estimated to num-ber around 200 by an Associated Press journalist, faced off for close to an hour with security forces, chant-ing slogans including: “Open the border” and “We are not animals.”

Thousands of migrants have been scaling fences near the tunnel, often referred to as the Chunnel, in recent weeks, trying to hop on freight trains or trucks destined for Britain. One man was fatally crushed by a truck.

Most of the migrants have fled war, dictatorship and poverty in Africa and the Middle East, enter-ing Europe Greece or Italy before heading north. Many think Britain

offers the best prospects, because of the English language, welfare benefits and the perceived ease of getting a job.

The migrant activity at the Chun-nel — combined with a series of strikes by French ferry workers — have disrupted freight and passenger traffic, and spurred both govern-ments to promise higher fences, more surveillance cameras and extra security guards.

In an article published in Britain’s Sunday Telegraph and France’s Journal du Dimanche, British Home Secretary Theresa May and French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said stopping the flow of migrants was “the top priority” for both gov-ernments. But they added that the entire European Union must “ad-dress this problem at root.”

They said many migrants saw the streets of Europe as “paved with gold” and “we must break the link between crossing the Mediterranean and achieving settlement in Europe for economic reasons.”

The governments are keen to show a united front on this issue, but many British politicians have criticized France for supposedly lax security at the tunnel. (ap)

To make the city tour popular among travelers, continued Su-wirya, there are some things to be a concern of government. Among them, there should be a drop zone and pick-up zone equipped with representative social facilities such as parking lot and restrooms.

The most important issue to be made into a concern is the guarantee that there will be no congestion at the drop zone and pick-up zone. It is particularly important considering the city tour package is basically a tour package that is bound by time between four to six hours. To that end, the transport problem becomes a crucial issue for tourist guide and travel agency.

The Head of the Denpasar Tour-ism Office, Wayan Gunawan, said that the Denpasar Heritage City Tour is packed in such a way to further increase tourist visits to cultural tourist object having been provided as well as to open up economic opportunities and improve quality of infrastructure for local communities. Besides, it also provides information for the public around the object in order to take advantage and capture the existing opportunities in particular economic opportunity as well as in-vite the community to participate in

creating security, order and cleanli-ness at the tourist destination.

The launching of the Denpasar Heritage City Tour 2015 has just included some destinations, rang-ing from the Square of I Gusti Ngurah Made Agung, Catur Muka Statue, Jaya Sabha, Bali Museum, Jagatnatha Temple, Kuta Jro Pal-ace Denpasar, Maospait Temple, Badung and Kumbasari Market as well as Ina Bali Hotel.

The city tour program launched by the Mayor of Denpasar, Rai Mantra, not long ago receives ap-preciation from tourism players in Denpasar. A Japanese tourist transport company, Kura Kura Bus, will also enliven the attraction in the heart of the Denpasar City by escorting guests to visit temple, pal-ace and the market in Denpasar.

President Director of Kura Kura Bus, Michiya Mizukoshi, said that in Bali there have been no support-ing cultural tourism in the city of Denpasar. Through the bus domi-nated by green color it has a unique shape like a turtle being ready to promote various tourist attractions in the city along with the existing cultural tourism. “I feel to be ap-preciated as we can participate in supporting the program of Denpasar city tour,” he said. DENPASAR - Deluang Sari, a little delta over-grown by mangrove forests with coastal white sand and calm waves, is situated overlooking the sea recreation center of Benoa Harbor. Since it has an intact ecological system, clean beaches and lush mangrove forests, this place was then developed for breeding sea turtles. At low tide, we can get there on foot in the sidelines of the mangrove trees of

Tanjung Benoa, while at high tides we have to cross by boat from Benoa Harbor for about 10 minutes. Aside from seeing turtle breeding, visitors coming here can also see different types of fighting cocks, animals and wild birds as well as a small temple, As a tourist destination, this small island has also been equipped with restaurants, souvenir shops and animal attractions.

Turtle Breeding at Deluang Sari The top-seeded former Univer-sity of Georgia star locked in his serve against his Tampa, Florida, neighbor, shutting out his frequent practice partner by winning all 16 of his service points in the second set. Isner then took 24 points off 30 serves in the third.

“I was hitting them bigger, which is a good sign,” Isner said after moving his Atlanta record to 19-3 with his 11th consecutive win at Atlantic Station. “I got stronger and stronger as that match went on. I was feeling not so great in the first set, winded.”

After dropping 25 aces on Kudla to push his tournament-leading total to 77 in three matches, the top seed will seek his 10th ATP title against a player who appears suited to give him trouble. In the night semifinal, fifth-seeded Marcos Baghditis of Cyprus beat the tournament’s other big server, seventh-seeded Gilles Muller of Luxemborg, 6-7 (4), 6-3, 7-6 (4) on the strength of his return game.

The seventh-seeded Muller en-tered Saturday as the only Atlanta player yet to lose serve, and trails only Isner in aces (77-52). He won his first 32 service games in the

tournament, including six in the first set.

Then, Baghdatis began to figure out the big-serving left-hander, breaking Muller once in the second set, and twice in the third to reach his 12th ATP final in search of his fifth title. After scoring on just one of Muller’s 23 first serves in the first set, Baghdatis scored on 9 of 26 of Muller’s serves in the second set and on 20 of 47 in the third.

“I think (Muller) lost his rhythm, and I started messing up his tar-gets,” Baghdatis said. Although 0-5 against Isner, all on hard courts like Atlanta’s, the colorful Cypriot said with a chuckle that Sunday’s key, “I think will be about messing up (Isner’s) game, and taking his eyes off the ball.”

The former world No. 8 (August, 2008) who fell in his past seven ATP semifinals, bent down after his win and kissed the court. He did the same Friday after beating second-seed Vasek Pospisil in straight sets. “Baghdatis will be different,” Isner said. “He returns very well.”

Isner played the last two sets dif-ferently than the first, unleashing his greatest weapon and ripping several serves at 140 and 141 mph.

After winning a rock-steady first set, the 22-year-old Kudla — who warmed Isner up at Wimbledon in 2010 before Isner played the lon-gest match in history, an 11-hour, 5-minute win over Nicolas Mahut — made all the key mistakes in his first ATP semifinal (to Isner’s 39th).

Kudla was on a 17-2 streak into the match, along the way becoming the first American male since 2012 to reach the round of 16 at Wimbledon. But Isner broke serve twice in the second set, each time winning as Kudla sent easy forehands from the baseline into the net to cede Isner a lead of 3-1 and then the set. The only break of the final set came on another Kudla forehand mistake, when he sent one wide to end the match.

“He stayed a little more dis-ciplined than he would in some practice moments,” Kudla said of Isner. “He started flattening out his serve. In the beginning, he was trying to pick his spots and I could get a racket on it. When he gets up toward 140, that’s when it gets tough.”

Top-seeded Mike and Bob Bryan easily won the first doubles semifi-nal Saturday. The most successful tandem in history beat Donald Young and Christopher Eubanks 6-2, 6-4 for their record 942nd career win together. (ap)

Sebastian Vettel believes it is ‘game on’ for Ferrari in the Formula 1 title race, and he has no doubt his team will “try abso-lutely everything” to catch Lewis Hamilton.

Vettel’s second grand prix win of the year in Hungary last Sun-day, which was the 41st of his F1 career to match the haul of the late Ayrton Senna, has thrust the four times champion back into striking distance of the Mercedes drivers in the points standings.

Heading into the summer break Vettel trails championship leader Hamilton by 42 points - equivalent to just under a win and a second place - and he is just 21 behind the Briton’s team-mate Nico Rosberg. Suggested to Vettel it will be ‘game on’ once the sea-son resumes in Belgium in a few weeks’ time, he replied: “It has always been.

“We know we have to remain realistic, that there is still a lot of work to do and a lot of catching up to do. “You never know. I’m sure we will try absolutely everything, and try to make the impossible possible. “The best way of doing that is to remain calm, to try to do your best, and then we will see

where the journey takes us.“I’m sure it’s well appreciated

by all the team to have a bit of a break now, and to recap on a very strong start.” As far as Vettel is concerned, the first 10 races of his Ferrari career - that have included two wins and five other podium finishes - have made the first half of the season “phenomenal”.

It is all in stark contrast to last season when Kimi Raikkonen and former Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso managed just two podiums between them, both achieved by the Spaniard who is now with McLaren.

“If you look at where we were last year, in terms of performance of the car and team morale, every-thing is a lot better than it was,” added Vettel.

“Inside the team we are happy with what has been achieved in all areas and if you look at the car - and I did not drive it last year - but Kimi is a lot happier. “Of all the teams I think Ferrari has made the biggest step.

“Sometimes you find yourself in a race where things aren’t com-ing together, but if you look at the last five or six races, it’s looked pretty good.” (net)

PSG, which achieved a domes-tic treble last season by claiming the French league, League Cup, and French Cup, put on a clinical display, converting its first chance when Serge Aurier headed home from close range after Lyon defend-ers failed to clear a free kick in the 11th minute.

After conceding six goals against Arsenal last month at the Emirates Cup in London, Lyon’s defensive worries continued, and Edinson Ca-vani doubled PSG’s lead six minutes later from the rebound after Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s shot was parried by goalkeeper Anthony Lopes.

It was PSG’s fifth victory in the Trophee des Champions, the tradi-tional dress rehearsal for the French league, which starts next weekend.

Held outside France every year since 2009, the match pits the league champion against the cup winner, but with PSG holding both trophies Lyon qualified thanks to its league runner-up status.

Lyon’s hopes of staging a come-back were dashed when Maxime Gonalons was sent off for a second yellow card in the 64th for a foul on Ibrahimovic. (ap)

A S U N - CION - Par-aguay has o f f e r e d t o be one of the official backers o f M i c h e l Platini’s bid for the F I F A presidency, the country’s football association said in a letter sent to FIFA. Candidates for the FIFA presidency have to present the written support of five national football associations by Oct. 26, four months before the election.

“The Paraguayan Football As-sociation (APF) is honoured to of-ficially offer its backing to Michel Platini’s candidacy for the president of FIFA,” said the association in a letter addressed to FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke.

“Please send Michel Platini’s candi-dacy to the FIFA electoral committee to be examined,” the letter, signed by APF president Alejandro Dominguez and published on its website, added.

Platini, president of European foot-

ball’s ruling body UEFA, has emerged as the early front-runner in the race to replace Sepp Blatter as head of FIFA.

South Korean Chung Mong-joon, former Brazil great Zico and Liberian FA president Musa Bility have an-nounced they will run in the February presidential election, though Zico has admitted he may struggle to get the five official backers.

South African businessman and for-mer political prisoner Tokyo Sexwale is also considering a bid, a spokesman told Reuters on Saturday.

Blatter was re-elected for a fifth term as FIFA president on May 29, but four days later he said he would lay down his mandate as soccer’s governing body became embroiled in the worst crisis in its history. Each of FIFA’s 209 member associations hold one vote in the presidential election. (rtr)

WOLFSBURG, Germany — Substitute Nicklas Bendtner scored a late equalizer and converted the decisive penalty to give Wolfsburg the German Super Cup title over Bayern Munich on Saturday.

Bendtner made it 1-1 in the 89th minute to send the match straight into the penalty shootout, with no extra time.

All five Wolfsburg players scored from the spot, while goalkeeper Koen Casteels made an acrobatic save with his left foot to deny Bay-ern’s Xabi Alonso.

Arjen Robben scored for Bayern

in the 49th but coach Pep Guardiola remained winless in three attempts in the German Super Cup, which pits the Bundesliga champion, Bayern, against the German Cup winner.

“We failed to finish the job and we were punished in the end,” Bay-ern captain Philipp Lahm said.

Arturo Vidal made his debut for Bayern, going on in the 74th. He was booked eight minutes later and scored from the first penalty shot.

Bayern’s other new signing, Douglas Costa, set up the first goal with a low cross from the left and Robben drove home from close

range.But Bendtner, who came

off the bench in the 70th, con-nected with a low cross from Kevin de Bruyne at the near post to send the ball into the roof of the net with little time remaining.

Wolfsburg proved that it is likely to be Bayern’s closest challenger for the title in the Bundesliga, which kicks off in two weeks. Wolfsburg beat Bay-ern 4-1 last season and finished runner-up in the championship. (ap)

South African businessman and for-mer political prisoner Tokyo Sexwale is considering running for president of world football’s scandal-hit governing body FIFA, a spokesman told Reuters on Saturday.

“Mr. Sexwale has been approached to put his name forward as a candidate for the FIFA presidency by several highly placed personalities within the football fraternity including people from the pri-vate sector,” said Peter-Paul Ngwenya of

Sexwale’s Global Watch foundation.“He is in the process of consulting

following which he will then make up his mind,” he added.

A close friend of the late former South African president Nelson Mandela, who he spent 13 years with in the Robben Island prison, Sexwale was a member of the African National Congress and was a post-Apartheid government minister before moving into business.

UEFA president Michel Platini

emerged as the early frontrun-ner in the race to replace Sepp Blatter as head of FIFA.

Soccer’s governing body was thrown into turmoil in May when 14 sports market-ing executives and soccer officials, including several from FIFA, were indicted in the United States on brib-ery, money laundering and wire fraud charges. (rtr)

NEW YORK — Argentine striker Ignacio Piatti spoiled Frank Lampard’s Major League Soccer debut by scoring a pair of goals in the Montreal Impact’s 3-2 win over New York City on Saturday.

Dominic Oduro opened the scoring for Montreal in the 5th minute after gathering a long Laurent Ciman pass and slipping it through City goalkeeper Josh Saunders’ legs before tapping it home.

Piatti made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute with a chip shot finish from another long ball. Former England midfielder Lampard energized the sellout crowd at Yankee Stadium when he entered as a substitute in the 69th minute, immediately after a David Villa penalty narrowed City’s deficit to 2-1.

Piatti’s scored from the penalty spot in the 84th minute before Thomas McNa-mara quickly answered for City 85th.

In Washington, Perry Kitchen scored in the in the 79th minute to give DC United a 6-4 win over Real Salt Lake.

The 10 goals fell one short of the MLS single-game record. The teams combined for seven goals in the second half, one short of the record for most goals in a half.

Former Norway defender Pa-Modou Kah scored two rare goals to lead the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 3-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders.

Kah volleyed his first goal past goal Sounders ‘keeper Stefan Frei in the sixth minute off a scramble in the area. He

added a second in the opening moments of the second half, redirecting Cristian Techera’s shot with a deft back-heel. Kah entered the match with one career MLS goal in 57 games.

Pedro Morales added his fourth goal of the season in the 75th minute with a curling free kick.

In other games, Charlie Davies scored twice and Lee Nguyen added a penalty as the New England Revolution beat a 10-man Toronto FC 3-0, Robbie Keane scored in stoppage time to lead the Los Angeles Galaxy past the Colorado Rapids 3-1, Cyle Larin’s double helped Orlando City to a 5-1 win over the Columbus Crew and the Houston Dynamo drew 1-1 with Sporting Kansas City. (ap)

SAO PAULO - Ronaldinho Gaucho made a triumphant return to Brazilian soccer on Saturday when he set up the goal that gave Fluminense a 1-0 win over Gremio at the Maracana stadium.

The former Barcelona forward was a shadow of his former self but his flighted pass into the box after 76 minutes was knocked down for Marcos Junior, who dribbled around the keeper and slotted the ball into the net.

“It was important to start with a win,” Ronaldinho said in a televised interview. “I am delighted, now I just need to keep working away.”

The 35-year old former World Player of the Year had not played a competitive match since leaving Mexican side Quereta-ro in June and he was expected to appear for just 45 minutes.

However, although he missed many of his attempted passes, he stayed on the field for the whole game, to the delight of the 33,000-strong crowd. “I didn’t know if I would manage the whole 90 minutes but I am very happy,” he said. (rtr)

IBP/File Photo

(kmb)

The cake of various shapes, sizes and colors arranged nicely describes the nature of life in the

world.

City tour needs political support

Sarad and Sate Tunggeh symbolize basic dualism

DENPASAR - If you pay a visit to temple or are conducting spiritual tour, do not be surprised if you find a Balinese traditional cake (jaja) assembled with a unique decoration. The cake of various shapes, sizes and colors arranged nicely describes the nature of life in the world. It is not a presentation of pure art, but a ritual means for Hindu community in Bali called sarad.

Images of en-

dangered animals, including birds, tigers, bears and other creatures, shined on the south side of one of the city’s most iconic landmarks.

The event was meant to spark conversations about mass extinc-tion. It was organized as part of a promotion for a new Discovery Channel documentary, Racing Extinction, which is set to air in December.(ap)

(nik)

- Studio Museum

The museum has five shows up through Oct. 25, but perhaps its most famous exhibit is a dis-play of two words: “ME WE.” Boxer Muhammad Ali recited the words in response to a request for a poem after giving a speech at Harvard; http://www.studio-museum.org , 144 W. 125th St. Open Thursday-Friday, noon-9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sunday, noon-6 p.m. Adults, $7. - Schomburg Center for re-search in black culture

The Schomburg Center, part of the New York Public Library, is marking the 75th anniversary of the American Negro Theatre with an exhibition of photos, posters and clippings from the 1940s, when the theater’s talents includ-ed Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee and Sidney Poitier. The Schomburg is also home to murals from the 1930s Works Progress Admin-istration program; http://www.nypl.org/locations/schomburg , 515 Malcolm X Blvd. near 136th Street. Open Friday, Saturday and Monday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Tues-day, Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Free.

You’ll find more historic mu-rals across the street inside Har-lem Hospital, 506 Malcolm X Blvd.

- Striver’s row

The St. Nicholas Historic District, also known as Striver’s Row, consists of the lovely tree-lined blocks of 138th and 139th streets between Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard and Fred-erick Douglass Boulevard. The landmarked, elegant stone-and-

Here are some top Harlem attractions.brick townhouses date to the 1890s and have been home to prominent African-Americans like musician Eubie Blake and Congressman Adam Clayton Powell Jr.

- Apollo Theater and Hotel history

You can attend the Apollo’s fa-mous amateur night or take a tour to learn about its history hosting the likes of James Brown, B.B. King and Aretha Franklin.

Accommodations in Harlem these days include the stylish, up-scale Aloft hotel, 2296 Frederick Douglass Blvd., and the Harlem YMCA, 180 W. 135th St.

- Restaurants

Harlem’s eateries include soul food institution Sylvia’s, 328 Mal-colm X Blvd., and Marcus Samu-elsson’s upscale Red Rooster, 310 Malcolm X Blvd. Samuelsson’s newer, more casual Streetbird Rotisserie, 2149 Frederick Doug-lass Blvd., is part of Harlem’s restaurant row — http://harlem-restaurantrow.com/ — where you can find everything from sushi to pizza to a beer garden.

(kmb)

(kmb27)

Sluggish supply, price of chili soars

BANGLI - Price of chili in traditional market has soared since the past few days. Moreover, the price per kg reaches IDr 42,000. This condition causes a number of traders to be confused for fear of plummeting turnover.

However, the launching is con-sidered premature. It is based on consideration that to date there is absolutely no indication of progress made by the Denpasar Municipal-ity for the arrangement of physical

infrastructure.“We greatly appreciate the plan

of the Denpasar Municipality to sell city tour package. Unfortunately, there seems no preparation to sup-port the city tour,” said one of the

legislators of the Denpasar House running the business in tourism sector, Putu Oka Mahendra. This Chairman of the Golkar Party Fac-tion in the Denpasar House men-tioned that to revive the city tour having been launched long time ago by the government must pay atten-tion to a number of crucial compo-nents to support the city tour.

To that end, before launching it the Denpasar Municipality must make improvement or complete several public facilities such as toilets in the city tour package.

Arrangement of the park along the heritage city tour (Jagatnatha Temple-Bali Museum-Jaya Sabha- Catur Muka Statue-Desa Temple and Pasar Badung) should be maximized.

Another member of the Golkar Faction also getting involved in tour-ism sector as a Japanese tourist guide, Wayan Suwirya, disclosed that to revive the city tour, the government must pay attention to a number of tourism components of tourism. One of them is the tour guide.

“Existence of the guide as tourism

practitioner that really understands about the intricacies of tourism ex-cursion should be made a spearhead in the exciting the city tour package of Denpasar,” said Suwirya.
