Question Library

Question pool will be uploaded by eGlobal LMS administrator using Respondus. Please refer to

Respondus Guide for more details on how to format your questions in MS Words.

Once question pool has been uploaded, pls go through your subject’s/ course site’s question library

to check.

1. Click on Assessments drop down menu on the top navigation bar of your course site.

2. Click on Question Library

3. Click on your desired section within the question library to preview/edit the questions

In the section,

Click on the dropdown arrow besides each question to edit/ preview/ view the number of

attempts on a particular question.

Click on new to create new questions/ sections (sections are like folders to organise your

questions)

Once done, click on the next section or on the Done Editing Questions button



Creating Quizzes

1. Click on Assessments drop down menu on the top navigation bar of your course site.

Item Details

General Name - Key in the name of the quiz (ie. CA1) Category - Associating a category with a quiz allows quizzes to be grouped by category in the quiz list page.

Quiz Questions Click on Add/Edit Questions button

Description Students can see this before this quiz start date

Introduction Students can only see these instructions when attempting the quiz

Page Header / Footer

You can put a header/ footer to be shown on every single page of the quiz

Optional Advanced Properties

Note: Pager and alerts refer to the 3 alert items in the red box below:



An email will be sent to the email stated in the Notification Email every time a student completes the quiz.

o Quiz Questions

Click on Add/Edit Questions button

Click on the New button to add new questions. If you wish to create a quiz with

random questions, select Random Section, name the folder and click save. For

demonstration purposes, I will name the folder as random.

Click on the folder named random



Click on Import button to import questions from Question Pool

a) Choose Question pool to import from

b) Select questions and click Save by ticking the checkbox and click Save

Indicate questions per attempt (eg random folder contains 22 questions, Indicating

“4” here will mean that students only get to attempt 4 out of 22 questions), points,

click Save and Done Editing Questions button



Indicate how many questions per page and click Apply. The purple line below each

question indicates a page break

Check to prevent backtracking if needed.

Click section/ folder (refer green box) to view all questions in the section in a pop up

window.

Dates and Restrictions

If status is set as Inactive, students will not be able to attempt the quiz regardless of date range set in Availability

Set the date range when students can start taking the quiz and where the quiz will no longer be available for student to attempt.

Optional Advanced Restrictions

Set a password that students need to key in before they can take the quiz. This is useful for quiz in controlled setting (eg lab)

SIM has many IP range at different locations of the campus. If this is required, contact [email protected] to discuss further. 1 month notice is needed for this.

Timing

The time indicated under Recommended Length is an estimate on how long the quiz will take. If No Time Limit is selected, student will be informed via quiz instructions that the recommended length is 120 mins If Enforced a time limit if selected, student needs to completed quiz within 120mins.

Grace period is required. Minimum timing: 1 min

Special Access This option is normally communicated to LMS admin via HE departments due to special cases (eg student has chicken pox unable to do quiz)

Assessment tab

Assessment

Select Grade Item if this is a graded quiz. If this is a practice quiz, no need to select.

Click on dropdown arrow to edit display settings. Options as follows:

Select attempt details and calculation method

Note: To have the quiz marks automatically sent to the grades tool the following 2 options must be checked



Submission Views tab

Click on Default View



o Uncheck Show attempt score and overall attempt score if you do not want students

to view their marks and Save

o Icons:

Expand/ Collapse full view mode

Click and drag to expand/ contract the window size

4. Click Save and Close



Adding a quiz to the Content area

a) Click on Content from the navbar

b) Click on your desired folder to add your quiz

c) Click on Add Existing Activities dropdown> Select Quizzes

d) Click desired quiz

e) Click dropdown arrow to Publish quiz. Quiz must be published otherwise students will not

be able to see it.



Editing Quizzes

Editing quiz settings 1. Go to your development/course site. Click on Assessments> Quizzes

2. Click on the quiz (eg CA002).

3. Refer to Page 5 Step 3 to Page 12

4. Reports Setup tab: Pls contact [email protected] on the sort of reports you would like to generate.




Importing new questions from Question Library into existing quiz

sections

1. Go to your development template/course site. Click on Assessments> Quizzes


3. Click on the Properties tab

4. Click on Add/ Edit Questions

5. Choose the section you wish to add new questions to



6. Click Import

a) Choose the Question pool you want to import from



b) Select all questions and click Save. Do not worry if the questions have been imported before as the system is able to differentiate between new and old questions

8. Select all questions and click Save. Do not worry if the questions have been imported before as the system is able to differentiate between new and old questions

You will be alerted that some questions were not copied. Click Done



Check the total number of questions with the total number of questions in Page 17 Point 10. The new question(s) will be imported.

9. If you would like to change the number of questions per attempt for that particular section, indicate the number of questions per attempt in the appropriate text field. Skip to point 10 if this step is not needed.

10. Click Save and Done Editing Questions

11. Repeats Point 4 to 10 if you have more than 1 random section to import new questions into.

12. Once done, scroll down and Click Save and Close.





Importing new questions from Question Library into new quiz

sections 1. Go to your development template/course site. Click on Assessments> Quizzes




5. Click on New to display the dropdown options. Select Random Section if you would like the questions to be displayed randomly.



6. Key in the section name (eg Random) and click Save

7. Click on your newly created random section

8. Click Import

a) Choose Question pool to import from

b) Select questions and click Save by ticking the checkbox and click Save

11. Repeat Step 4 – 10 to create more Random Sections.




Deleting existing quiz sections 1. Go to your development template/course site. Click on Assessments> Quizzes




5. Check the section you would like to delete and Click on Delete

6. Click delete to confirm deletion



7. Repeat Point 5 to 6 to delete more Sections.

8. Click Done Editing Questions






Preview random questions in quiz 1. Go to your development template/course site. Click on Assessments> Quizzes



4. To preview list of questions, click on the respective random folders (eg Introduction to Statistics)



5. A pop up window will display all questions in the selected folder

(Eg Introduction to Statistics is randomly selecting 2 out of 39 questions to show students, so the pop up window will list out 39 questions)

Once you have finished viewing, click the Close button.
