Some say that thou their endless love hast wonBy deeds for them which I may not believeThou ever didst, or every wildest done;What matter, so they love thee? They receiveEternal more than the poor loom and wheelOr their invention ever wove and spunI love thee, for I must, thine all from head to heel

I have friends who believe that God findsthem a place in the parking lot, that herecovers lost keys, or that he keeps themfrom flunking a course. They pray and itis done.

God has put no limits on what we canpray for, it is true. Am who am I tobother God with such prayer who am Ito think my friends a bit nave? Maybethey are right? In any event, when theyfind their keys, they thank God. Andthats enough.

He is after all the giver of all good.Recovering ones keys may not be a

major good, compared with Christ dyingon a cross to redeem the world. But eventhe so-called trivia of life are part of hisgreat package of blessings. If the keys arelost and never found, however hard oneprays, the truly wonderful gift, the gift offorgiveness and life with him, is not lost.

We pray that our friend will arrive safelyat his destination, but there is an accidentand he is killed. We pray that the plant

may not close, but it does, and we loseour jobs. We pray that our marriage willhold, but it falls apart and in pain we goour separate ways. These are biggerissues than loss keys, and prayer fails. It isthen we fall back on the one unchangingguarantee of Gods love, the cross of

Christ. He does love us, no matter whathappens in the variables of life, becausehe died for us.

We love him, not because of recoveredkeys, because in the cross he hasreclaimed us as his own. This is themeasure of His love.

See what love Father has given us thatwe should be called children of God; andso we are. (1 John 3:1)

parish member.
