Editor: Pastor John Luginbuhl Editor: Susan Nixon April 2014
From the Pastor’s Desk
Easter will be here “in a few blinks of an eye”! Are you ready? It is important for all of us to answer this question: “What
if Jesus Christ had not risen from the dead?” Let’s see what God’s Word has to say about this very important matter!
Consider this: If Jesus Christ had not risen from the dead...
1. He would not be unique, but instead would be like every other teacher / prophet who
has already died... still dead! He would thus not be God! Romans 1:3-4, 1 Cor. 15:4
it would also mean that Jesus lied about His resurrection, and the Bible lied as well!
2. He would not have achieved anything by dying! No salvation for any of us! We would
all be doomed to Hell! Is. 53:11, Rom. 4:25
3. He would not have robbed the last enemy (death) of man of its fangs! Gen. 3:15,
Heb. 2:14, 15 He would not be able to destroy the works of the Devil. 1 John 3:8
4. He would not be alive, and thus people could not know Him and have a personal
relationship with Him! Phil. 3:10
5. He could notgive victory to people who put their trust in Him! 1 Cor. 15:54-57,
2 Cor. 2:14, Phil. 3:10
6. He could not and would not raise our bodies from the dead. 1 Cor. 15:20-23
Continued on page 2
7. We would not be motivated for any kind of Christian
action - love, justice, service, mercy, proclamation of the
Gospel... 1 Cor. 15:58
Praise God that Jesus did rise from the dead! Hallelujah,
Trivia Question

WHO KNEW?
When we say that someone with a raspy voice has a
“frog in his throat”... That expression does not come
from sounding like a frog because you have a cold or
sore throat! It originates from a medical practice in the
Middle Ages! Doctors at that time believed that if a live
frog was placed head-first into a patient’s mouth, the
frog would inhale the cause of the hoarseness into its
own body. Fortunately for all of us, this practice is long
gone, but the expression lives on!
DO YOU WANT TO BE added to
our church’s email list? You will
receive prayer requests and
updates, reminders of
upcoming events of the church,
missionary letters, etc., etc. If
you would like to be added, simply send a brief note to Pastor
John at [email protected]. If you would like to be
removed from the email list, please send a note to that same
email address!

Why are the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team called the “Dodgers”? Before moving to Los Angeles, the Dodgers were
based in Brooklyn, New York. The team had originated in the 19th century when, because of the dangers of horse-drawn
trolleys and carriages, the pedestrians of Brooklyn called themselves, “trolley dodgers”. Because most of their working-
class fans had to dodge traffic on their walk to the game, the Brooklyn baseball team named themselves the “Dodgers”
in their honor. When the team moved to L.A. in the 1950’s, they took the name with them.

The pale spring sun skitters into hiding
as a storm closes over the mountain.
Clouds race across the desert
and billow over a leaden lake;
then they attack the craggy mountain peaks
as tides upon grey sands...
Black and angry come the clouds,
throwing their fury fist
at the uppermost granite sentinels;
Springtime in the Rockies
While in the high meadows beneath the snow
the lupine, paint brush, tiny white
snow drops, and goldenrod sleep on.
I am filled with wonder.
Does the snow really fall upon the mountain,
or do the clouds simply dissolve,
drizzling down like vanilla ice cream
then begin a tortuous descenttoward the towering pinesand straw-colored meadows.Ever swirling, they reel and plunge onward...
Catching in blind crevices, the clouds
whip about, spinning upward,
seeking escape from jagged prisons.
In frenzied pirouette they slip, slide, tumble,
seemingly intent upon destroying the ageless rock.
Slowly, steadily, the grey mass settles
and the turmoil ceases.
A murky shroud obliterates the mountain
for hours; perhaps a day...
The clouds have gone now.
Snow shimmers in a brilliant April sun.
A gentle peace prevails.
on a neglected cone?
Or do they leave behind a residue,
like powder on the dressing table
when the fallen puff is lifted?
Is God playing mind games with me?
From where does this strange
curiosity come?
Perhaps someday I shall climb the mountain
and wait for the next storm to marshal...
Then I shall know.
Will you come, too?
Perhaps we will hear God’s laughter.
“Gotcha!”

The valley below is paved in concrete
but gay with crocus and daffodil
scattered about; a tulip here and there.
The lilac is awake, wondering if it’s time has come,
