In The Spotlight
Established in 1990 andlocated in Helmond, theNetherlands, Noxon Stainless
BV is one of Europe’s leadingstockists and distributors ofstainless steel materials for theprocess industries. The companyhas its head office, warehouse andtwo sales offices in the Netherlandsas well as affiliated companies inGermany (Asadin), Belgium(Cotubel), France (TRD) andSwitzerland (Trinox). Furthermore, plans are in motion to move thecompany’s warehouse to bigger,fully-automated facilities (23,000m2) later this year. Currentlyoverflowing with tubes, pipes, fittings, flanges, valves, bars, profiles and sheets, Noxon’swarehouse stocks a very extensiveproduct range. By keeping a well-stocked inventory, Noxon is able to
guarantee its customers with quickdelivery and short lead times.
“I could talk about the skills wehave at Noxon for hours andhours.” Ms van Grinsven begun.“However, here is an example ofone of our most recentinternational projects that bestillustrates these skills. The customercontacted us two weeks after thetender deadline had passed andasked us if we would be able tosupply 120 tonnes of 316 stainlesssteel tubes and fittings at the plantin Russia by 31 January. Conformto our normal company policy, weissued our offer that very same dayand awaited their reply. After onlya matter of hours we received atelephone call that our offer hadbeen accepted and that theywanted to see us in person to closethe deal at the end of the same
week. We were pleasantlysurprised and set to workimmediately, but it didn’t take longbefore reality sank in. Themagnitude of the project andespecially the timescale were to bea challenge.”
By the next week, Noxon hadreceived the orders for a completeproduct package. Delivery timewas the most important factor andknowing that timing would becrucial, Noxon agreed to a projectduration of only 6 working weeks.Mr Stefan Zwickardt continued:“We are always very aware ofhow important delivery times anddeadlines are to our customers. Westrive to do everything in ourpower to ensure that our productsget to the customer on time, andthis case was no different. Weknow our own capacity, which iswhy we still dared to take on sucha project even with a very tightschedule. We did not hesitate topull out all the stops.”
Instead of a one-man projectteam working two days, fulltime ona ‘normal’ project, Noxon neededto allocate four fulltime members ofstaff to work on this project foralmost 6 working weeks. Due to theproject location, additionalpaperwork included sevenadditional certificates and ensuringthat all the paperwork was inRussian. Ms van Grinsvencommented: “Once we had doneall of our homework, it was just acase of getting the goods to theplant in time. We received the letterof intent at the end of Novemberand the deadline was the end ofJanuary. The official contractnegotiations were not completeuntil the middle of January, meaning that all in all, we werereally pushed for time. It was achallenge, but we enjoyed everyminute of it.”
In addition to Noxon’sstandard product certification(DIN, EN, AFNOR, ANSI, PED andISO), Noxon’s products are nowalso certified for GOST-R andHygiene. “A perquisite of havingdone a thorough job.” CommentedMs van Grinsven.
When asked for the secrets toNoxon’s success in this and manyother of Noxon’s long list ofprojects, Ms van Grinsven replied:“Each project has its ownparticular demands, our secretweapon is in-house experience, expertise, knowledge and aboveall, teamwork. It’s as simple asthat.” Over the years, Noxon’s hasdeveloped a team of experiencedstaff, each with his or her ownspecific area of expertise. Nowhaving reached 45, each memberof Noxon’s sales staff has at least
six years, up to as many as thirty-five years experience in stainlesssteel for the oil and gas, shipbuilding, food, chemical andpetrochemical industries. “This iswhat enables us to fulfil the
requirements of even the mostdemanding end-user projects,” MrZwickardt commented. “We like tobuild partnerships with ourcustomers based on efficient, reliable and consistent service. Theicing on the cake in this case hasbeen receiving the follow up order. The most important thing for ourcustomer was being able to trust usone hundred per cent to ensurethat the materials would be high-quality, supplied on time andaccompanied by impeccableservice. We obviously take thisfollow-up order as a bigcompliment.”
Ms van Grinsven concluded:“Over the past fifteen years Noxonhas been a partner to manysuccessful projects and thisparticular project was completedfive whole days before thedeadline. This would have beenimpossible without such anexperienced, professional andhardworking team. Howeverchallenging, we hope to be able tohandle many more projects like thisin the future.”
