See you Tuesday Feb.11 th @6:00pm for our monthly meeting at Royal Buick. Take care. Charlie Editor’s Comments Hello all. Hope your January went well. I cannot believe we are already 1/12 th done with this year. Ti me is zooming by so fast. We have a few things to talk about in this newsletter. First, I want to talk about the January outing to the Tubac car show. That was a good time for all. The sun was shinning and so were the cars. It was nice to see such a big turnout. There was one unfortunate event for this show. Ron Wicks was towing his Chevy Wagon down to the show when he had a bit of a problem. I guess young people should not drink heavily on Saturday morning and expect to drive a car very well. To make a long story short, Ron was taking his just finished Wagon on its first outing to a car show. He was towing it behind his Explorer down I- 19 when this individual hit the trailer in the side. Needless to say it was enough to send the Explorer and the trailer into the median. Unfortunately the Explorer rolled over one or more times and ended back on it wheels. The back end of the Explorer was so high you could see the big dent the hitch put in the hood of the Wagon sitting on the trailer. The passengers are OK. (Cont’d on page 2)

Editor’s Comments Hello all. Hope your January went

well. I cannot believe we are already 1/12th

done with this year. Time is zooming by so fast.

He was towing it behind his Explorer down I-19 when this individual hit the trailer in the side. Needless to say it was enough to send the Explorer and thetrailer into the median. Unfortunately the Explorer rolled over one or more times and ended back on it wheels. The back end of the Explorer was so high you could see the big dent the hitch put in the hood of the Wagon sitting on the trailer. The passengers are OK. (Cont’d on page 2)

Editor’s Comments (cont’d) The Explorer needs to be crushed into soda cans. The beautiful paint and chrome on the wagon looks like it was sand blasted with pea gravel. And the hood has a nice place now for cowl induction. All in all Ron was in good spirits over the whole ordeal. But now that the thankfulness that you are still alive is over, reality sets in that he has a bunch of work to go all over again. Some people say the fun is just in getting the cars fixed up. I think Ron would disagree. Give him a call, I am sure he would love some help removing all of the chrome and block sanding the rock marks down smooth. I would also like to thank Michael Fraker from Kustom Polishing for talking at our last General meeting. It was interesting to hear how someone experienced does polishing of trim. I learned that I really do not know what I am doing when it comes to restoring trim. This is why I was glad that all of the trim on my GN was black. It is not very hard to sand clean and paint. I especially like the stories where he needed the trim from the other side of the car to be able to tell how the one he was sent to fix looked like. That is when you know you need a professional to do the job right.

Next I need to talk about the renewal of membership dues. I have included a little tear off sheet to send into the P.O. Box with your dues. You can find it later in the newsletter. The dues expiration date was updated on your address label with the latest information that I had as of the last Board meeting.

I am in the process of updating the website. I want to schedule mini photo shoots of anyone who wants their cars featured in the new Member’s Rides section of the website to

Top points from the Polishing discussion:

- use a file on the rounded parts of the trim to flatten out. - then use sandpaper to rough polish it out – 180, 240, 400, 600. It should be almost polished by then. - then use air cooled wheels to do the final buffing. - do not need a very expensive buffer. cheaper one will work, just take longer. - can get equipment from Tucson abrasives and Kents tools.

-- most polishers will go to 500 grit polish. the higher number, the more it must be perfect so you do not see any imperfection.

-- you must wear a mask because all of these metals are very bad for you.

give me a call. I will start to put the new website section together over the next few days. I want to fully populate it will all of the members cars over the coming months. I also want to get a small bio of each car before we put it in the website. I only want simple things like year, model, style, official color name, and any other little tidbits of information that you want to post. We are hosting a garage tour on Saturday, March 15th. We will visit 4 locations during the morning and ending with a BBQ at the Gietl residence. The Club is also hosting the National BCA Board of Directors meeting for this quarter on February 21-22nd. There will be a tour to the Franklin Museum and a get together at Bill’s house on Friday. The actual meeting will be on Saturday. Look for directions on both of these events later in the newsletter. It looks like the Marana High School is hosting its fund raiser car show again after taking a few year break. It will be at Windmill Park in Continental Ranch of the NW side of town. I will be going there to support my wife’s old high school. Pete “Going fast with Class!!”

January Outing – Santa Cruz Car Nuts hosted Tubac Car Show:

It was a beautiful day in Arizona as usual. There was not a cloud in the sky. I got up early that day to finish cleaning my car; I knew it would be a nice day for a car show. My friend Terry showed up at my house promptly at 7:00 AM for the quick drive down to Tubac. We hit the Circle-O-K, as my daughter calls it, for gas and snacks and we were ready to go. We started to make our run for the border. As we were driving down I-19 we started to follow a silver Austin Martin. That was good until we came caught up to Chuck Taylor in his GS455 going down the freeway and sucking down lots of gas. We followed Chuck until we reached the Cow Palace for breakfast. There were 6 other Buick Club members at the eating establishment for the pre-show breakfast. The food was good, but a word to the wise. If you are going to be on your feet all day in the sun, do not get chorizo and egg breakfast. Ohh…that made it for a long day when the only facilities are port-o-potties. The day could not have been more perfect. There was not a cloud in the sky for the whole day. At one time, the announcer stated that there were over 570 cars on the field. It was also amazing to the number of people who attended the show. There was just people everywhere. That was the good part to see everyone enjoying themselves and enjoying the show. We had 8 cars from our club show up to the show. We actually came home with a few trophies. I know Bill, Al, and Terry all placed in their classes for their awesome displays of automobiles. I also managed to get 2nd place in the 80’s and up class. Not hard where you are competing with 2002 Beetle painted 50 different colors. All in all the show was a good time and well worth the trip. I kept on hearing that this would be the last one in Tubac. Lets all hope it is not true. It would be a bad show to lose.
