A great attention is being paid to catalysts which act toenhance the rate or yield of the reaction without beingconsumed by the reaction itself. Catalysis has become a keystrategy in solving many of today’s challenges. Up to now, almost all industrial processes employ catalyst in multipleforms to increase economic viability, frombatteries to refiner-ies. Meanwhile, increased concerns about environmentalpollution have led to the development of novel catalysts, which can catalyze desirable chemical reactions. Catalysisis rather prevalent everywhere as a key enabling technol-ogy in energy conversion, fuel production, production ofchemicals, and environmentalmitigation. On the other hand, nanotechnology has become an indispensable tool ofmaterialengineering for catalysis related applications. Nanoparticleswith controlled morphology and structure have a highersurface area, which provide the best platform to catalyzedesirable chemical transformations and lead to the increasedcatalytic activity. The current barrier for widespread indus-trial and environmental use is ascribed to the controlledsynthesis of nanocrystals with high-energy surfaces and theunderstanding of synthesis-structure-performance relation-ships. Multidisciplinary advances from chemistry, physics, and materials science have played a major role in catalystsynthesis, structural and compositional modification, andmechanistic understanding with molecular and atomic-levelprecision by advanced characterization techniques and mod-eling.
Last year, we invited investigators to contribute originalresearch as well as review articles that address the fieldof advanced nanocatalysts. We encourage manuscripts thatwill concern new progress in controlled synthesis, thoroughunderstanding of the reaction mechanism and cutting-edgecharacterization techniques. Today, we are very happy topublish this special issue of this journal.
In this issue, original research and review articles areaccepted. The research papers focused on nanocatalysts withnovel structure produced by innovative synthetic technolo-gies and detailed kinetic mechanism through experimentsand promising application.
