Rainbow in a Glass Here is a simple experiment which will form different colour solutions in a glass to create a rainbow effect! What you will need: Sugar Water Food colourings (blue, red, green, yellow) Tablespoon 5 glasses/clear plastic cups 7 Easy Steps: 1. Line up all of the glasses. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar to the first glass, 2 tablespoons of sugar to the second glass, 3 tablespoons of sugar to the third glass and 4 table spoons of sugar to the fourth glass. The fifth glass remains empty. 2. Add 3 tablespoons of water to each of the first four glasses and stir. 3. Add 2-3 drops of red food colouring to the first glass, yellow food colouring to the second glass, green food colouring to the third glass, and blue food colouring to the fourth glass. Stir each solution. 4. Now to start making a rainbow! Fill the fifth glass about a quarter full of the blue solution. Time: Difficulty:

5. Next carefully layer the green solution until the glass is about half full. 6. Now layer the yellow solution over the green colouring until the glass is about three-quarters full. 7. Finally, layer the red solution until the glass is full and your rainbow is made!

Top Tips: • The sugar solutions are mixable, so the colours will eventually mix together if left for too long! • If your sugar won’t dissolve just add a few more tablespoons of water.

Birth: 7th November 1867Death: 4th July 1934Discoveries:Marie Curie and her husband Pierre Curie are both famous for having discovered two radioac-tive elements- radium and polonium. They also were the first ones who discovered that radiation had the potential to treat cancer. Awards:Marie Curie and her husband won two Nobel prizes: one for physics in 1903 and another for chemistry in 1911. Legacy:Marie Curie’s legacy lived on through her daughter Irene Joliot-Curie, another notable woman of science who went on to win a Nobel prize with her husband in 1935 for her own work on radioactivity.Fun Fact:Marie Curie’s papers are still too radioactive to handle!
