EDITORIAL

Asalamualaikum wa

Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu.

As we pass through the annals of life in

this world we find those few ‘Genuine

Gems’ who need to be treasured and

loved. We at Suffah Learning Institute

lost one of our true ‘Genuine Gems’ this

year, (i.e. Moulana E.I. Lambat) who

was our Hifz Moulana and Ustaad to the

Grade eight boys.

It has truly been a profound loss, the

wounds run deep and the pain still felt.

Moulana’s influence and presence still

reverberates throughout the walls of

Suffah Learning Institute and Insha-

Allah forever will.

Moulana’s has left a lasting legacy at

Suffah Learning Institute and his

imprints will forever remain.

All his students have a profound love for

him. Moulana’s was an embodiment of

the Sunnat in all aspects of his life, he

was always ready to lend a helping hand

to all and sundry and he had an immense

love for the Quraan.

We therefore dedicate this issue “The

Quraan- a Living Miracle” to Moulana

Ebrahim I Lambat.

Life is a blank canvas, waiting to be drawn upon. You have to decide how you would like to fill

your canvas. Education is that magical tool with which we can fill our canvas.

We need to grab hold of this tool and use it to create that ‘best seller’ or ‘masterpiece’.

Humility has become a thing of the past while modesty is rapidly fading away. The ideals that were

once the pillars of our beautiful Ummah are growing fainter with the passing of time.

Our youth are being bombarded from every angle. Magazines, adverts, television, social media and

the mass media are all transforming our pure lifestyles into that of the disbelievers.

How do we recapture and reclaim our identities? How do we begin to reinforce our Islamic

principles that we have either forgotten, or left lay by the wayside?

The answer is simple – go back to the basics. Instead of role models from sports and television, let

us have a role model who has Imaan and piety. Let us aspire to emulate the one who we positively,

unanimously admit to being utterly successful. One who led by example, One we already love,

honour and admire.

Yes, none can compare to our beloved Nabi Muhammad (SAW). It is the Sunnah that has the power

to transform that mundane canvas into a masterpiece. To create that best seller that gives you that

ultimate success. It is only through the Sunnah that our daily actions can transform into acts of

worship and it is through these actions that we attain the pleasure of Allah (SWT).

It is my hope, desire and heartfelt dua for us all, that Allah (SWT) eases the path for us, to enable us

to bring the Sunnah into every facet of our lives............................................Ameen.

HIFZ CLASS

TO MOULANA LAMBAT

Ahmed Akhalwaya ... Moulana Ebraheem was a very good person. He was a person who lived according

to the Sunnah.Moulana’s character was absolutely mind blowing.Moulana loved the Sunnah and the

Quraan and whenever it was disrespected Moulana got upset. Moulana was a full package, a good father, a

good teacher and a good friend. Moulana was a very noble man. He had a lot of knowledge and wisdom.

Moulana loved his students as if they were his children. Moulana was strict and stern but had a soft side

too. Moulana always told us that if we do something to do it correctly, there is no easy option.

Moulana would go out of his way for his students. I remember once Moulana waited 30 minutes after class

to listen to my work. Moulana taught us many good things. He taught us to show respect to every single

person whether rich or poor, whether Muslim or non-Muslim. Moulana advised us on many aspects both

Deeni and worldly. Moulana would make us read Salaatul Tasbeeh on Fridays and we had to read 10000

Durood as well. Moulana taught us to read the Holy Quraan as it is the words of Allah Ta’allah and if we

show disrespect to the Quraan the Holy Quraan will not enter our hearts. Moulana was like a father to us

and wanted nothing more from us than to become pious servants of Allah Ta’allah.

May Allah Ta’allah grants ease to his family and grant him Jaanatul Firdous (Ameen).

Muhammad Uzair Bin Malik ... Moulana Lambat was a gentle yet strict especially on Deen. He was

always jolly and always had a smile on his face. He always tried to live according to the Sunnah. Moulana

loved children and taught them to live with Sunnah and could not stand people who disrespected the

Sunnah of Nabi (S.A.W). He was a man full of humility.

Moulana always cheered up people who were sad with a simple smile and did not tolerate lies. Moulana

loved listening to Quraan and Qiraat and the praises of Nabi (S.A.W). He was very punctual with his

Salaah. He did not like to dress in an inappropriate manner and could not tolerate people dressing in an

inappropriate manner because he felt that it was disrespecting the Sunnah.Moulana respected all the

teachers and for that he will be remembered. May Allah grant Moulana Lambat a befitting reward and

allow him to enter Jannatul Firdous. (Ameen).

Huzaifa Mohammed ... Moulana Lambat was my hero. He was a funny, kind, wonderful, generous and a

humble person. Everyone loved him. Moulana Lambat used to teach the grade 8, 9 and 10 classes. He

taught Quraan to students from other classes. I am only learning the words from Allah because of him.

Moulana Lambat also took us to his house at the end of every term. He had a braai for us and allowed us to

swim in his pool. He also allowed us to use his wifi. Moulana is my hero because he taught me the Quraan

and to have good manners. Moulana Lambat sacrificed a lot for us. Unfortunately, my teacher Moulana

Lambat has passed away. May Allah grant him Jannah. Ameen.

Aweys Mukhtar ... I first developed fondness towards Moulana Lambat my Islamiyaat teacher and Hifz

Moulana last year. Moulana Lambat was an inspiration, as he was always passionate about Allah (SWT).

He always wore a kurta and a turban which complimented his pious face. My Moulana, more than any

other teacher in my life moulded me into the person I am today. He taught me to love the Quraan and

inspired me to become a Hafiz. He used to emphasise the practising of the Sunnah of the Prophet (SAW)

and emulate the pious companions. In addition he was more than a parent to me. It was as if he was a

parent who understood my circumstances all too well. Often I would consult him when I had personal

issues and he would readily solve them. There was a time when I did not feel like coming to school but the

thought of seeing him motivated me to come to school. He had a great personality which I have never seen

in a man. He treated me like one of his own children. He still remains the perfect poster of patience,

understanding and empathy. Many times to this day, I seem to see his face hovering over mine telling me

not to be discouraged in the face of every difficulty. Moulana Lambat’s dedication and guidance gave me

the wings by which I fly. May Allah Grant him Jannah. Ameen.

Yusuf Ravat ... My role model is not a cricket player, superhero or famous celebrity, my role model is

Moulana Ebrahim Lambat (R.A). Moulana taught me a lot of things. He was not just an Ustaad to me and

the other boys. He was a mentor and a friend and also like a father figure to me. Moulana did not only

teach us Quraan, he taught life lessons that we will treasure for the rest of our lives. We the Hifz students

spent at least 2 hours with Moulana every day. Moulana would regale with us of tales of his youth. We

were advised by Moulana to humble ourselves in front of others in order to gain the pleasure of Allah.

Moulana had a big heart and shared his lunch with us. Moulana was fond of sweets and always kept sweets

in his pocket. Moulana’s love for the Sunnah was so great that he encouraged us to implement the Sunnah

in our lives. Moulana was also a very jovial person who loved cracking jokes. Moulana was a man with

great Akhlaaq and Allah blessed him with a beautiful death. Moulana will really be missed.

Abdul Fatah Guure ... Moulana Ebrahim Lambat was one of my best teachers. A kind, soft hearted

Moulana who cared for everyone. A man who respected himself and others. A Moulana who taught us a lot

of things. Things like Hadeeth, Sunnah and to respect the Moulana’s and our teachers or anyone who had

knowledge of the Deen. Moulana was a person who loved Islam He used to read his Salaahs and most of

all teach teach us Quraan. He also taught us how to read Salatul- Tasbeeh. He loved us and cared for us.

Moulana Lambat wanted us be become Hafizul Quraan. He wanted us to become the best of servants of

Allah (SWT). Moulana Lambat was strict with everyone no matter who, even with his own child. Moulana

taught to have respect for the Quraan at all times, not throw it around or even hold it disrespectfully. As the

Quraan is the word of Allah (SWT) and its noor will not enter your heart if you don’t respect it. Moulana

would wait for a parent to fetch a child even when it was quite late. I learnt a lot from Moulana Lambat.

May Allah (SWT) grant him Jannatul Firdous. Ameen.

Saciid Said ... Moulana Lambat was a humble and kind person. He had a lot of Noor and Ilm in his heart.

He was pious and Allah fearing person. Insha’Allah he will get Isaale-Thawab of the students he taught .

May Allah Ta’ala grant him Jannah and may Allah make his Qabr bigger and fill it with noor. Ameen.

Saying goodbye is not forever.

Some people, somehow just have the ability of leaving an imprint on the hearts of all those they encounter

during their lifetime. Sometimes it seems as if these are the people who live life to the fullest. They truly

know how to make every moment count, and they truly have a way of creeping into the hardest of hearts.

When Allah decides to call these special people back to him, they leave a certain void, a shiver, a chill, to

those who were lucky enough to have had the privilege of encountering their spirit and being a part of their

lives even for just a short time.

I remember the tears endlessly rolling down my face all the way as I drove for almost 20kms to reach my

sons. It just did not seem like I would ever get there, the journey almost seemed unending, and all the while

my thoughts were with the hearts and emotions of my children, wondering tearfully what they were feeling

by the devastating news that their beloved Moulana had just passed away.

At that moment, I did not realise that I would never again wait outside the Madrassah and wonder what

took them so long, why they were so delayed, and why the younger one was always last to be out of the

hifz class. At that moment, I did not realise that our once daily supper conversations would no longer be

about a lecture, shouting or talk that was given to them by their honoured Moulana Ebrahim Lambat.

It was a daily question to our sons, “So, what does Moulana Lambat have to say?”, and without fail, they

would daily have a long list of advices shared with them by Moulana.

“You know mummy, Moulana has been teaching for twenty years, and we were his last students.”

Zakariyya said as he cried, “I will never ever get another Moulana like that he said, he taught us about

everything.”

With an overflow of emotion, I found my thoughts dwindling in my mind, and I knew that I would not rest

until I wrote this article.

My only advice to my shattered sons is to take the time they had with Moulana, and live by what he had

taught them, because what he taught them was indeed lessons that they could take along with them for the

rest of their lives.

He did not just teach them, but he showed them through his life and his example. He taught them respect

and love for the Quraan. He showed them how to be humble. He taught them about life, wealth, health and

Allah. They were all so lucky to have had a special bond with Moulana and his soft hearted son.

All the beloved young ones who will no longer enjoy the privilege of Moulana’s presence, who will no

longer get Moulana pleading their cases to their fathers to allow them on campouts, vouching to take

responsibility for them so that they could have a good time. Who will never be in his auspicious company

again, listening to his tales of wisdom.

They will never be able to stay late in class just to take his hand and bid him farewell. They will never

enjoy being spoiled by him again in an outing to his home where they all felt so welcomed and at home.

They will never be shouted at, reprimanded or taught by him again. Do not despair; you were of the lucky

few to have been taught by him.

As we know, this world is a temporary abode, and if you can live the life that Moulana would have wanted

you to live, then Insha Allah you will receive a death as honoured as his.

Treasure his virtues, remember his words, and hold the memory in your heart, so that you can grow up with

the same spirit and kind heart, and one day also have an impact on the lives of all those that you encounter.

May Almighty Allah always be with his family, grant them ease in any difficulties, make the journey of

their lives a blessed and easy one, and make it easy for everyone to accept and be please with Almighty

Allahs’ decree. In the end, we are all travellers; Moulana has just beaten us to the next level. May Allah

(swt) help us too to reach a highest level of spirituality, and die a death where we return to our creator, in a

condition that he is pleased with us. Ameen. By Shanaaz Hassem Jaylarnie.

Read and Understand more of

THE HOLY QURAAN

In the name of Allah Ta’ala, the most Gracious, the most Merciful. All praise and glory is for Allah Ta’ala.

Peace and blessings be upon the best of creation, His chosen messenger and Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).

The Quraan Sharif is the word of Allah Ta’ala, sent as guidance for man, for all times. What a blessed

nation we are to have, in our midst this great and precious treasure. Its eloquence has no parallel in the

world. Its perfection is beyond the comprehension of man. It is an inspiration to mankind for all times.

We ordinary mortals feel privileged to have an opportunity to read (make tilawah) and ponder over its

message, for the wisdom it contains will never be found elsewhere. Allah Ta’ala says: “Had we sent down

this Quraan upon a mountain, you would surely have seen it humbling itself and torn asunder by the fear of

Allah Ta’ala”. (59:21)

Indeed, what a treasure, hold fast onto the book of Allah Ta’ala and be guided by it. It is only when we let

the beauty of the Quraan Sharif enter our hearts that our lives will change. We should start by reading it

daily and listening to the recitation of the Holy Quraan for a short while, the love will surely enter our

hearts. The Prophet (S.A.W) said, “The best among you is the one who learns the Quraan and teaches it.”

It is the duty of every Muslim to devote himself to reading the Quraan and trying to understand it (with the

help of the Ulama/learned scholars of Islam). We should encourage our children to become hufaaz and we

should strive to memorize it even if it be a small portion of the Quraan Sharif. The more we recite it and

listen to it with sincerity and devotion, the more we stand to benefit. One ayah (verse) learnt and practised

upon, is better than a great deal of reading which does not move one or impart any beauty to its readers

life.

Indeed, the Quraan is the way to come closer to our creator, Allah Ta’ala. Hold fast onto the Quraan Sharif

and Sunnah and you are sure to reach your destination, i.e. Paradise and the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala.

Some Astonishing Facts about the Quraan

Al Swaidan discovered some verses in the Holy Quraan that mention one thing is equal

to another. Although this makes sense grammatically, the astonishing fact is that the

number of times the word man appears in the Quraan is 24 and the number of times the

word woman appears is also 24.

Upon further analysis of various verses, he discovered this is consistent throughout the whole Quraan,

where it says one thing is like another. See below for astonishing results of the number of times words are

mentioned in Arabic in the Quraan.

And amazingly enough have a look how many times the following words appear:

Salaat 5, Month 12, Day 365, Sea 32, Land 13.

Sea + land = 32 + 13 = 45

Sea = 32/45*100 = 71.1111111%

Land = 13/458100 = 28. 8888889%

Sea + land = 100.00%

Modern science has only recently proven that water covers 71.111% of the earth, while the land covers

28.889%.

Is this a coincidence? Question is that who taught Prophet Muhammad sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam all this?

Reply automatically comes to mind that ALMIGHTY ALLAH taught him this. The Quraan also tells us

this. Aayah 87 of Surah (Chapter) Al-Anbia\ para 17.

GRADE 3:

VIRTUES OF RECITING THE QURAAN

Rasulullah (S.A.W) has said, “The best amongst you is he who learns the Quraan and

teaches it”.

The Holy Quraan is the most superior book of Allah Ta’ala.

It is a Muslim’s duty to recite the Quraan daily.

The Holy Quraan is a cure for sickness.

Reciting the Holy Quraan is a noor in this life and a provision for the Hereafter.

The list of the people who will be under the shade of Arsh of Allah Ta’ala on the Day of Judgement

includes those who teach the Quraan to children.

It is mentioned in the Hadeeth that there is no level in Jannat higher than that given to the reader of

the Quraan.

The Holy Quraan is the source of nobility and pride of the Ummah in the sense that reading,

memorizing and teaching it, confers an honour upon them.

A person who recites the Quraan will gain the closeness of Allah Ta’ala.

The mercy of Allah Ta’ala comes down on the person who recites the Quraan. Reciting the Quraan

cleanses ones heart.

People who recite the Holy Quraan are known as the household of Allah Ta’ala and are the

favoured ones.

Hadhrat Huraira (R.A) reports that Rasulullah (S.A.W) said, “Whoever recites ten Ayahs in the

night is not reckoned as the neglectful”.

Rasulullah (S.A.W) said,” On the day of Judgement before Allah Ta’ala, no other intercessor will

have a greater status than the Quraan, neither a Prophet, nor an angel”.

GRADE 4:

ETIQUETTE/ AADAAB OF READING QURAAN

Firstly ensure that one’s body and clothes are clean from any type of impurities.

Make whudhu before reciting the Quraan. It is haraam to touch the Quraan without whudhu.

Make sure the surroundings and the area where one is going to recite the Quraan is clean.

Use a miswaak before reading Quraan to ensure that the mouth is thoroughly cleansed of any strong

or offensive smells.

Sit facing Qiblah in a dignified manner. One should not lean against anything, stretch out one’s legs

or lie down whilst reading Quraan.

Place the Quraan in a slightly elevated position.

The use of itr (permissible fragrances) is recommended before recitation.

Do not feel the urge to hasten or finish the Quraanic recitation quickly instead read slowly.

Recite the Quraan with tajweed (correct pronunciation).

Read Durood Shareef an odd number of times then recite Ta’awuth’ and ‘Tasmiyah’ before

commencing tilaawah.

Recite ‘Ta’awuth’ and ‘Tasmiyah’ at the beginning of each Surah.

Make the intention of reading the Quraan solely for the pleasure of Allah and to obtain His favour.

Refrain from idle talk while reading Quraan. However if one is compelled to talk then one can do

so and begin again with ‘Ta’awuth’ and ‘Tasmiyah’.

To give each letter its due, so as to clearly and fully pronounce every word, for each letter counts as

ten good deeds.

If one understands the meaning of the Quraan then pause and reflect on the aayaat of promise and

mercy then beg for His forgiveness and compassion.

On aayaat of punishment and admonition one should seek His refuge as there is no helper but

Allah.

On aayaat pertaining to His Majesty and Sanctity recite ‘Subhanallah’.

Try to weep while reciting the Quraan even if you have to compel yourself to do so.

One should not use saliva on the fingers to turn the pages of the Quraan.

If one puts the Quraan down do not leave it open.

When one has completed reciting the Quraan read Durood Shareef an odd number of times.

It is not permissible to use the Quraan or any other books of Islamic knowledge as a pillow. Also do

not place any other books or objects on top of the Quraan.

Stop reciting when one yawns, for when reading the Quraan one is addressing ones Lord in a

private conversation, while yawning is from Shaytaan.

Do not let a day go by without looking at the pages of the Quraan at least once.

GRADE: 5

THE IMPORTANCE OF TAJWEED

All letters of the Arabic alphabet must be pronounced correctly. If one does not

pronounce the letters correctly, the meanings can change very much. If the meanings change for the worse

the reciter can become sinful. If the mistake is made in Salaah, it is possible that the Salaah can break and

will have to be repeated.

Applying the laws of Tajweed is Fard-Ain, i.e. it is a must for all reciters to apply Tajweed rules at all

times. The noble Quraan contains regulations and recommendations about all aspects of life and references

to the hereafter. The Quraan must be read, written correctly and clearly so as not to create any sort of

misunderstanding or ambiguity whatsoever. When a person does not read the Quraan as it is suppose to be

read i.e. with Tajweed, the angels curse him until he stops reading the Quraan. It is the kalaam of Allah so

we have to recite it in the correct manner. Allah Ta’ala states in the Holy Quraan “Read the Quraan with

measure”. Tajweed has to be applied while we are reading Quraan, Surahs and Duas.

It is compulsory for all to have the knowledge of tajweed.

The Quran is the word of Allah Ta’ala, and its every syllable is from Allah. Its recitation must be taken

very seriously. The purpose of the science of Tajweed is to make the reciter proficient in reciting the

Quraan, observing the correct pronunciation of every letter with the rulings and characteristics which apply

to each letter, without any exaggeration or deficiency. Through this the reciter can recite the Quraan the

way Nabi (SAW) received it from Hazrat Jibraeel (AS), who received it from Allah Ta’ala in the classical

Arabic dialect that it came down in.

Muhammad bin Al-Jazaree the great Hadeeth and Quraan scholar states in his famous poem detailing the

rules of Tajweed, “And applying Tajweed is an issue of absolute necessity. Whoever doesn’t apply

Tajweed to the Quraan then is a sinner is he”.

Rasulullah (SAW) has said, “The Quraan will either testify in your favour or against you”. Hence if we fail

to observe the requirements of the Holy Quraan during our recitation, the Quraan will testify against us. If

we are unacquainted with the prerequisites, we are compelled to acquire the laws of Tajweed.

May Allah Ta’ala grant all of us the ability to recite the Quraan correctly so that we may earn the mercy of

Allah Ta’ala and not the wrath of Allah Ta’ala.

VIRTUES OF SURAHS TO BE READ DAILY

The promise of Allah Ta’ala to the regular reciter of this Surah is that he or she will be

saved from the punishment of the grave and to place one under the protection of Allah at night.

Surah Yaseen

Surah Ikhlaas

Is equivalent to the third of the Quraan, known as the Surah of Tawheed (Unity).

Surah Kaafiroon

Clearance from shirk. If recited by a person in fear this Surah brings him safety.

Surah Falaq and Surah Naas

These two Surahs are also referred to as “Mu’wadaitain” the last two Surahs in the Quraan. These two

Surahs were revealed to seek protection from various types of evil. It is a protection from physical and

spiritual evil, intentional as well as unintentional evil.

Ayatul- Kursi

When recited one will be saved from calamities. It is also a means of protection.

Surah Dukhaan:

Who ever recites this Surah in his obligatory as welll as in his supererogatory Salaahs would rise on the

Surah Ar- Rahman

If recited frequently, on the day of Qiyaamah it would take the form of a human being and stand nearest to

the Almighty and point out when commanded, those who have recited it in their life of the world. Their

faces then would shine bright. Allah will then ask them to recommend for salvation whoever they like, then

they would be made to go into paradise to dwell wherever they wish.

Surah Bakarah

The Holy Prophet (SAW) said that whoever recites the first four verses of Surah Bakarah acoompanied by

Ayatul Qursi together with the last three verses of this Surah and makes a habit of reading this daily, his

life, his property and family will be protected and no evil shall come upon them.

Shaytaan will not come close to him and he will not be from amonsgt those who forgets Allah.

GRADE 7:

SURAH YASEEN-THE HEART OF THE QURAAN

Surah Yaaseen is one of the most virtuous Surahs in the Quraan. There are many

benefits that Nabi (SAW) has told us about reading Surah Yaaseen.

It is mentioned in the Hadeeth that everything has a heart and the heart of the Quraan is Surah Yaaseen.

For every one letter recited 10 virtues are written for the recite. There are approximately 2792

letters in Surah Yaaseen so the reciter will receive 27920 virtues.

It is related from Hadhrat Ata bin Abi Ribah (RA) that Nabi (SAW) said, “Whoever reads Surah Yaaseen

in the beginning of the day, all his needs for that day will be fulfilled”.

If you read Surah Yaaseen only for the pleasure of Allah (SWT) all your earlier sins are forgiven.

Therefore, make a practice to read it over your dead.

If you recite Surah Yaaseen for the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala he will forgive your minor sins.

The reciting of Surah Yaaseen near a dying person, it makes the ordeal of death easy on him. Whoever

reads Surah Yaaseen in the time of need his needs shall be fulfilled.

Whoever goes to the kabrastaan should recite Surah Yaaseen and Allah gives the dwellers of the

kabrastaan ease that day and the reciter receives spiritual blessings equivalent to the amount of letters in

Surah Yaaseen.

If you read Surah Yaaseen you will be cured.

GRADE 8:

VIRTUES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF HUFAAZ

Saciid Said ... Whoever memorizes the Quraan and acts upon it, Allah will reward him and honour him

greatly, he will rise in status in Paradise to a level commensurate with what he memorised

of the book of Allah. Al-Tirmidhi (2914) and Abu Dawood (1464) narrated from ‘Abd –

Allah ibn Amr’ that the Prophet (SAW) said: “It will be said to the companion of the

Quraan, recite and rise in status, recite as you used to recite in the world, for your status

will be at the last verse you recite”

Note that what is meant by the ‘companion of the Quraan’ is the one who memorises it by

heart, as the Prophet (SAW) said, “The one who knows more Quraan should lead the people

in prayer’ meaning the one who has memorised the most. The differentiation in Paradise

will depend on how much was memorized in this world, not what one will recite on that day

as some people imagine. This clearly points to the virtue of the Hafiz who has memorised

the Quraan, but that is subject to the condition that he memorises it for the sake of Allah, not

for worldly purposes or financial gain. Otherwise the Prophet (SAW) said, “Most of the

hypocrites of my Ummah are amongst those who have memorised the Quraan”.

Concerning the virtue of the Hafiz who memorises the Quraan, al-Bukhaari (4937) narrated

from Aisha (RA) that the Prophet (SAW) said, “The likeness of one who reads Quraan and

memorises it, is that he is with the righteous honourable scribes. The likeness of the one

who reads it and tries hard to memorise it even though it is difficult for him, he will have

two rewards”.

21

GRADE 10:

SCIENCE OF THE QURAAN

There are certain aspects in today’s times which scientists have only recently thoroughly research and with

the aid of technology discovered. These aspects were in actual fact, mentioned in the Quraan.

One example of this would be the fact that the oceans do not mix when they meet. There is an invisible

barrier separating the two oceans so much so that even when the water is making contact, the molecules let

alone the water itself do not mix. Scientists have only recently discovered this with the help of extensive

and sophisticated technology. Allah (S.W.T) narrated this to Nabi (S.A.W) in the Quraan over 1400 years

ago during a period wherein there was no technology prevalent. This is made mention of, in Verse 19 of

Surah Ar- Rahman.

Another example would be the formation of the foetus in the womb. Allah (S.W.T) has mentioned that the

foetus is protected in the mother’s womb under 3 layers of darkness. Furthermore, the baby is covered by

another sac called the placenta. The baby is connected to the mother through the umbilical cord from which

nutrients from the mother are passed on to the baby. This was revealed in a time when there was no

technology or means to discover this. Scientists of today have only recently, through the means of

microscopic technology and the like, discovered this. How great is the power of Allah (S.W.T).

Hammaad Laher

There are scientific and historical facts found in the Quraan which were unknown to the people at the time,

and have only been discovered recently. The Quraan came in a unique style of language that cannot be

replicated, this is known as the Inimitability of the Quraan’ There are predictions made in the Quraan by

the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) which have come to pass.

To give one example of the miraculous nature of the Quraan, the origin of all life can be mentioned.

“WE MADE EVERY LIVING THING FROM WATER? WILL THEY NOT BELIEVE? (21:30)

In this verse, water is pointed out as the origin of all life. All living things are made of cells. We have only

recently come to know that cells are mostly made up of water. For example, 80% of the cytoplasm (basic

cell material) of a standard animal cell is described as water in biology textbooks. The fact that living

things consists mostly of water was discovered only after intervention of the microscope. In the deserts of

Arabia, the last thing someone would have guessed is that all life came from water.

However, even though science conforms to the Quraan in most aspects, we as Muslims do not rely on

science to prove the miraculous nature of the Quraan to accept its message of monotheism and being a

guide to the eternal salvation of mankind in the Hereafter.

MY SECRET FOR SUCCESS

My first secret to success lies in Islam. Secondly my studies and memorising the Quraan. My

teachers and my parents are my road to success. Without them I would not be successful in most

things. – Junaid Patel

My secret is to always be careful. Try not to do wrong things. Work hard in life to earn well and

NEVER GIVE UP! – Hammaad Shaikh Omar

Believing in yourself is the first secret to success in life and business. Self trust is also a secret to

success. Then comes making good decisions. And how do we make good decisions? These come

through experience. How do we gain experience? From all the wrong decisions. – Nehal Khan

My vision, my dreams and my goals in life define who I am and what I can achieve. I am very

proud of the blessings Allah has bestowed upon me. I have learnt that we can fall but we must get

back up and learn from our mistakes. To live each day with honour, respect and dignity is the

greatest achievement. – Muhammed Uwais Limalia

My secret to success is to live life as if it is a pizza. Take things nice and slow and you will enjoy

your pizza. But, if you are rough and not careful, everything will fall off your pizza.

Abdullah Dickson

A successful person is one with good character, one who obeys his Creator, one who is generous,

not selfish and self-centered. Success lies in forgiving others, honouring your parents and always

being kind. You can only be successful if your Creator is pleased with you. Abdullah Akhalwaya.

I believe to be successful I must be true to my Deen. I should fear Allah and follow the five pillars

of Islam. I always try to show respect, be honest and conduct myself as a good Muslim. Learning

and gaining knowledge and hard work will make us all successful.- Zaid Whyte

When I grow up I want to become an Aalim. I also want to be in the army. Or else I’d like to

become a cricket player. But firstly, in order to be successful, we have to please Allah, prepare for

the Hereafter and read Salaah 5 times daily. This will make my Allah proud. – Ibrahim Syed

I hope my future will be bright but I know life is not always constant. There are many ups and

downs in life but as human beings we have to work hard to achieve what we want. Doctors inspire

me to work hard to be successful. – AbdiRahman Ali

You must always be positive and decide upon your dreams and goals. Never stop learning even

from your mistakes. You must take action and be persistent and work hard. You must not let

anything or anyone distract you. Do not be afraid to be different. Always be honest and take

responsibility for your actions. – Muhammed Areeb Mahomed

Letters to a Non-Muslim (Sunnat of Nabi SAW)

Nabi (SAW) used to write letters to all the governors/rulers inviting them to Islam

Dear Mayweather

Why don’t you accept Islam? Muhammad Ali was a Muslim and that is why he always exceeded in

boxing. He used to win because before very fight he used to pray to God (Allah). Muhammed Ali has died

and needs someone to continue his legacy at being a Muslim boxer. My God, Allah will guide you to the

true religion of Islam. Uthmaan Yusuf Patel

Hello Ronaldo

I have been thinking that you should revert to Islam. Many people will follow if you convert to Islam. You

will go to Jannah (heaven). You will be able to enter the best places on earth, Makkah and Medinah and

have a great time, so please say ….LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAH! Huzaifah Laher

Dear Gareth Bale

If you became a Muslim the world will embrace Islam. You are a very popular person and you are one of

the best footballers in the world. What I mean is that you already have a haircut that is long and looks like

a zulfa which also determines the Sunnah. So as you embrace Islam you are already getting good deeds. So

please embrace Islam. Muhammed Yusuf Vania

Dear A.B. De Villiers

My name is Muhammad Khan and I am writing to tell you how important it is to become a Muslim.

Everyone was born a Muslim. It is just how you were brought up. Firstly, Islam is a way of life. Secondly,

there is only one God (Allah). I am ending my letter by saying, “There is only one God (Allah and

Muhammad (SAW) is the messenger of Allah’ If you make the right decision consult a learned person in

Islam. Muhammad Khan

Dear David De Gea

You are my favourite goalkeeper so I am asking you to please become a Muslim. Islam is the only true

religion in the world. I would not want my favourite goal keeper to burn in hell. In paradise is a beautiful

place, whatever you wish for will come true and only believers will go to paradise. The disbelievers will go

to hell. The punishment in hell is very bad. You will have to drink boiling water and eat thorns and pus.

The lightest punishment in hell is shoes of fire. Please send this message to all the team members of

Manchester Unites and Spain. It will save them from getting punished. Muazzam Bin Qaiser Butt

Dear Dale Steyn

I have a question for you, would you like to become a part of my religion? I would really be happy. If you

accept Islam, you would have much more blessings in your life than you have now. Islam is a religion of

peace and harmony. Many people accept Islam because of the peace loving people. If you ever want to

accept Islam go to the nearby masjid (mosque) and try to find out about the peaceful religion of Islam.

Please accept Islam! Cassim Ahmed

Dear Tom Cruise

I am not you biggest fan but I am just doing my duty as a Muslim. In Islam they show us how to go to the

toilet, eat and much more. Islam also teaches us to be good and have good character. It also teaches us to

respect our elders, teachers and parents. Tom Cruise, even if you are an actor, you can still change. It does

not matter what you are or what you were, you can still change your name. Huzaifah Coovadia

Dear Lionel Messi

Please accept Islam. It is the only true religion. All the disbelievers of Islam will go to hell and the

believers in one God (Allah) will go to heaven. In heaven whatever you wish for you will get. For example,

if you wish for a golden Ferrari you will get it. You will have palaces made from gold and silver bricks.

The cement of the bricks will be made from musk. In hell, the lightest punishment is shoes made of fire.

The fire of hell is sixty times hotter than the fire of this world. You will be beaten by the angels. Tell your

family friends. It will help you as you are one of the best soccer players. Talha Patel

MY HERO ..........

My life and the turn of its events nine years ago made my mum my hero! She hasn’t been to the moon;

neither did she ride the world’s fastest roller coaster. She is an ordinary person who has faced extraordinary

circumstances and acted with courage and sacrifice by raising my brother and I single-handedly.

At those times in my life when I felt confused and afraid, my mum held my hand. She has taught me my

greatest life lesson I would ever have to learn. I saw her fall but amazingly climbed right back up and

soared to an even higher place.

She is my hero because she is the strongest person I know. She has inspired me to do the very best that I

can do and be the very best that I can be. She has showed me how I can be brave and never give up, no

matter what!

Muhammed Ebrahim

AN OWN GOAL ........

We ran onto the field one morning,

With our ball but still yawning.

My team shot the ball,

It flew like charcoal,

Hit Aseel’s head and flew into the goal.

He did not look sad.

We also did not want him to feel bad.

Everybody makes mistakes.

But nobody will make you jump in the lake.

We have cheered him up.

Now he can enter into the soccer world cup!

GRADE 8:

AN INCIDENT I WILL NEVER FORGET

I was in my first standard in Kenya. There was a class test in science. I was done and was waiting for the

bell to ring so that I could go home. Then the invigilator in the examination class asked everyone in the

classroom to verify their answers as she would be collecting our papers in about 10 minutes.

I did not know what was going on in my mind. But on hearing that, I took out the class notes from my bag

and started verifying all the answers. The boy sitting beside me called the invigilator and told her about my

“great” act.

She looked at me and I looked at her. The book was still on my table with my right index finger pointing

on the text in my class notes. I slowly dragged my left index finger over my test paper. It lost its space and

landed onto the table.

There was sheer silence for about 10 seconds! Two seconds later the invigilator slapped me. Even before I

could breathe in some oxygen another one came hurling towards me and then another one. Ladies and

gentleman that was a tight one!

Tears rolled down my cheeks and for a minute I could not see anything. Everything was blurry. The

invigilator took my test paper and I was thrown out of the classroom.

I still laugh every time I think about the above incident.

GRADE 9:

ALLAH’S MIGHT.......

In brightest day, in blackest night

No evil shall escape Allah’s sight

Let those who worship Shaytaan’s might

Beware of Allah’s glorious light.

In the blackest day, in brightest night

Beware of evil disguised as light

Should they try to stop what’s right?

They will burn at Jahannam’s sight

With blood and fear of crimson red

Horrors await when they go to bed

All of which haunt even when dead

In fearful day and raging night

With strong hearts full, our souls ignite

When all seems lost at war and fright

Look to Allah for hope burns bright

For hearts long lost, and full of fright

For those alone in blackest night

Accept Islam which conquers all

In peace and happiness serve my lord

The blackest of nights fall from the skies

As Shaytaan grows and all light dies

He craves your hearts and your desires

And by his dark hand evil can rise

In brightest day and brightest night

Let Islam excel with might

When evil arrives we join the fight

For Allah’s power has the strongest might.

The more we know, the more we love - A beautiful story about

Quran

Today I am very happy to share something beautiful about the Qur’an with you. Before I mention the story

I want you to pay attention to this fact: when we recite The Qur’an we shouldn’t forget the honour that

Allah has privileged us with, when you are reciting Qur’an you are in fact uttering the same words Allah

Himself uttered, Allah with His Greatness, with His infinite Mercy, Knowledge, Power and Might spoke

these words and you are uttering them now. What a wonderful honour that no other creation has been

granted!

The story I am about to share with you was actually narrated by Sheikh Muhammad Hassan because he

heard it directly from the person it happened to who was a surgeon.

The surgeon says: “One day I was meant to perform this surgery on an old man. There was so much light

coming out of his face and he had a beautiful white beard. I could see he was a righteous man, as I

approached him to brief him about the surgery and calm him down, the elderly man started weeping. So I

tried to calm him down, I said: “You know uncle, it is going to be an easy operation Insha’Allah, Allah

will take care of you, we’ll do our best. The old man said: “I’m not worried about the surgery, I’m not even

worried about death, if Allah takes my soul, Alhamdulillah, that’s the decree of Allah, but what I am really

worried about is that every day I recite five Juz’ of The Qur’an, this is a practice I have never broken in my

life and I am afraid that under the effect of the anaesthetic I won’t be able to recite, this is why I am

weeping!” And after some discussion the man came up with a suggestion he said: “Don’t inject me with

the anaesthetic until I have started reciting Qur’an.” The man started reciting the Qur’an then they injected

him with the anaesthetic and guess what! To their surprise the man was still reciting! They performed the

surgery and the man was still reciting the words of Allah until he finished five Juz. The surgeon says: “I

couldn’t believe myself. This is a miracle taking place in front of my eyes, this man is unconscious and he

is reciting Qur’an.” I called out to the other surgeons, in order, for them to see this miracle. The man

finished five Juz’ while he was under the state of anaesthetic.

This reminds me of the Hadeeth of the prophet peace be upon him: “You observe the rights of Allah and

Allah will preserve you.” [Reported by At-Tirmidhi and authenticated by Al-Albani]

Some years ago, the story came to us in Toronto about a man who was in a marine merchant ship and made

his living on the sea. A Muslim gave him a translation of the Qur'an to read. The marine merchant knew

nothing about the history of Islam but was interested in reading the Qur'an. When he finished reading it, he

brought it back to the Muslim and asked, "This Muhammed (SAW) was he a sailor?" He was impressed at

how accurately the Qur'an describes a storm on a sea. When he was told, "No as a matter of fact,

Muhammed (SAW) lived in the desert," that was enough for him. He embraced Islam on the spot. He was

so impressed with the Qur'an's description because he had been in a storm on the sea, and he knew that

whoever had written that description had also been in a storm on the sea. The description of "a wave, over

it a wave, over it clouds" was not what someone imagining a storm on a sea to be like would have written;

rather, it was written by someone who knew what a storm on the sea was like. This is one example of how

the Qur'an is not tied to a certain place and time. Certainly, the scientific ideas expressed in it also do not

seem to originate from the desert fourteen centuries ago

School events Our Annual Sports

Alhamdulillah, what a fun filled day! On the 22nd February 2016 our annual sports day was held at

the Jim Fouche Primary School grounds, in Crosby.

Alhamdulillah, it was a resounding success and was enjoyed by all learners, parents, siblings,

grandparents and teachers alike.

As usual the proceedings commenced with a march by our three teams. Asadun (Lions-blue),

Namirun (Eagles - green) and Fahdun (Cheetahs - yellow).

The teams were cheered on enthusiastically and the races were enjoyed by all present.

Our teams were very competitive and each team put their best foot forward. However, the day was

won by the Fahdun team followed by Namirun in second position and Asadun in third position.

Well done to all involved and we look forward to more sports days filled with camaraderie and fun!

A visit from the fire department

Here at Suffah, we work hard but we always make time for fun.

On the 10th of May 2016 our Foundation Phase learners had the privilege of meeting their local fireman

with their fire truck from the Crosby Fire Station.

The object of the visit was for our school to form a relationship with the Crosby fire station so when there

is an emergency they know who we are and exactly where we are situated.

Whether it was the dress-up challenge or handling the hose from the fire engine, our boys showed team

spirit and unity in every task that was given to them by the firemen.

They had tons of fun and most importantly learnt that firemen are friendly and that they are here to help

when we have an emergency.

May Allah keep our boys safe and increase them in love and unity. Aameen.

Rhyming contest-grade O and R

On the 18th May 2016 our Grade O and R learners of Suffah Learning Institute had their first Rhyme

contest at the Suffah School Hall.

Excited mums came to view and listen to their little ones. Our little ones were very excited to stand on the

stage to sing their Nazm. They were the centre of the stage attraction. Some of them were shy and some

were confident.

The purpose of the Rhyme contest was to assist in the development of confidence and encourage public

speaking.

At the end of the contest each learner was given a certificate and a packet of goodies. Each little one was a

shining star!

Association of Muslim Schools - soccer festivals

All that was heard in the Grade 1 and Grade 2 classrooms, for several days was the chatter about soccer.

Each and every child who participated in the 2015 AMS tournament relives their victories, draws and

losses of the previous year.

After a note was sent out to parents, to confirm their childrens participation, the kids began to mentally

prepare themselves for the tournament. Eager soccer champs volunteered to play in the AMS tournament

held on 17th September 2016. A short training session was held to get kids fit and ready for action.

Not even the windy weather could dampen the spirits of the Suffah champs. Each and every child

displayed courage and commitment throughout the day. The powder blue Suffah kits were seen powering

the fields as the boys gave their all and proved that they were good sportsman. The most important part of

the tournament was the support and commitment from parents, teachers and children alike.

Excursions:

Grade O and R: A visit to the Dairy Farm

On the 29th January 2016 our Grade O and R learners went for an excursion to the Douglasdale

Dairy Farm. It was a wonderful and enjoyable experience for the Grade O and R’s, as they learnt

about the whole process of getting milk. Learners were told how to get milk and what other

products are made out of milk, like yoghurt, cheese etc. Thereafter the children saw the calves and

each child had a chance to feed them, which they really enjoyed. They went to the factory where

each child was made to wear a white coat, a plastic cap to cover their hair and had to clean their

shoes. All of this was for hygienic purposes. At the factory they saw how the milk is packed into

bottles and plastic packets. It was a real eye opener for the learners. After lunch the learners were

free to play, in a huge garden.

The staff and workers of Douglasdale Dairy Farm were very friendly and welcomed us with open

arms.

Foundation Phase:

Reitvlei

On the 29th of September 2016 our Foundation Phase learners went for an excursion to the

Rietvlei Zoo Farm. It is situated in the South of Johannesburg, approximately 25 minutes from our

school. The farm offers a variety of recreation, educational and family outdoor activities.

Our learners thoroughly enjoyed the activities they were booked for, which was the tractor ride,

pony ride, mini zip-line and an educational talk. During the educational talk learners were

attentive and were curious about the animals that were on display. They asked questions that were

both interesting and inquiring.

Alhamdulillah, the learners were well behaved throughout the trip. The weather was pleasurable

and the learners as well as the educators enjoyed a gratifying outing.

Intermediate Phase:

S.A.A. Museum

On Thursday, the 29th of September 2016, our grade 4, 5 and 6 classes went on our planned excursion to

the Rand Airport Museum. The boys were extremely excited and the beautiful spring weather added to

their anticipation. We left the school promptly at 8:30am. The bus ride was fun as the chatter of happy

boys filled the air. Within approximately 45 minutes we had reached our destination. First we were taken

on a guided tour of a very special air plane, the Lebombo. It was one of the first luxury Boeing 747s

bought by the South African government over 32 years ago. It had cost R17 million at the time. This

airplane also holds special merit in our history as it was the plane in which Nelson Mandela was flown in

on his release from prison. The tour was interesting and our learners were allowed to ask questions which

were gladly answered by our tour guide. The learners then had the opportunity to sit in the cockpit of one

of the planes and experience flight simulation. The museum was filled with hundreds of figurines,

uniforms and information of our rich air-force heritage.

We then picnicked at the Germiston Lake where the boys enjoyed some fun in the sun before we made our

way home. It was a lovely day filled with lots to learn.

Senior Phase:

Gold reef

Alhamdulillah! On the 29th of September 2016, the Grades 7, 8 and 9’s went on an educational

excursion to Gold Reef City accompanied by 5 educators. Wow! What an awesome trip! There were a

few thousand other school children from other schools who also planned to end the 3rd term away from

the classroom.

The excursion began joining hundreds of children at the entrance in a long queue at 9am. Once inside

the guide took us to the unused gold mine. We removed our topis and wore helmets to be transported by

shaft 75m underground. We were exposed to the harsh working conditions which the miners had to

undergo bringing riches to South Africa and turning Johannesburg into the economic hub of Africa.

The smelting process was explained and the learners benefitted immensely.

We were then taken to view for a 4D experience wearing special glasses. Wow! What a moving

experience with life-like images coming for you from the screen...the seats moving...water squirting on

your face and “something” clutching at your ankles! Awesome!

Then it was time for the rides before lunch! The UFO, Dream Boat, Mermaid, Jozi Express, Raging

Rapids, Miner’s Revenge (not for the faint-hearted!), The Golden Loop and the Big Wheel, (for the

not-so-daring)) to get a panoramic view of “your great African city”.

After lunch, the brave continued with their rides, standing in queues for 45 minutes! We returned at

2pm. Frantic phone calls were made by some learners to their mothers to fetch them at 5 pm. Learners

were heard pleading, “Please mummies....please ... come fetch me at 5 o’clock please...? From their

tones and passionate pleas, any mum would have given in!. One educator remained to continue with the

rides. One learner realised too late that you don’t have a scrumptious lunch before going for these

rides!! A memorable end enjoyable excursion!

Community Outreach:

Building a well/borehole (A grade 10 innitiative)

The grade 10 class of Suffah Learning Institute embarked on a community project to raise funds for the

construction of a well/borehole in an area where there is scarcity of water. This project formed part of the

Life Orientation syllabus.

The syllabus required them to volunteer their time and effort to make a difference to a needy community.

Alhamdullilah, the project was an overwhelming success!

As members of the Suffah Family our parents dug deeply into their pockets. May all of you be greatly

rewarded by the Almighty for your generous contributions.

Orphanage visit

On the 29th of September 2016 our Foundation Phase learners had the opportunity to visit a boy’s

orphanage in Maraisburg that has 30 boys from all over the country. With the help of our dedicated

parents we filled boxes with basic essentials such as toiletries, stationery and a few small clothing items.

The boxes were beautifully covered and labelled with each boys name. Our boys personally handed the

boxes to the orphans. The joy on the boy’s faces was priceless!

The main aim of this visit was so that our boys value what Allah (SWT) has given them and see what life

is like without parents.

The orphanage is also in dire need of cupboards and other necessities. If anyone wants to donate anything

towards the upkeep of the orphanage, kindly contact: Apa Sarah on 0735793786

WHAT DO TEACHERS MAKE.....?

The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life.

One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued, “What’s a kid going to learn

from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?”

To stress his point he said to another guest; You’re a teacher, Barbara. Be honest. What do you make?”

Barbara, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, “You want to know what I make? (She

paused for a second, then began .....)

Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could. I make a C+ feel like a Congressional

Medal of Honour winner.

I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when their parents CAN’T make them sit for 5 minutes

without an iPod, Game Cube or movie rental.

You want to know what I make? (She paused again and looked at each and every person at the table).

I make kids wonder.

I make them question.

I make them apologise and mean it.

I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions.

I teach them to write and then I make them write.

I make them read, read, read.

I make them show all their work in Maths. They use their God given brain, not the man-made calculator.

I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe.

Finally, I make them understand that if they use the gifts they were given, work hard, and follow their

hearts, they can succeed in life (Barbara paused one last time and then continued.)

Then when people try to judge me by what I make, with me knowing money isn’t everything, I can hold

my head up high and pay no attention because they are ignorant.

You want to know what I make?

I MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

What do you make Mr.CEO?

His jaw dropped, he was silent.

A profound answer!!!

Suffah Learning Institute History of our school

Suffah Learning Institute is registered with the Gauteng Department of Education and has been in

existence for 8 years. It first catered for Grade 0 to Grade 3 learners from its premises at 24 5th Avenue in

Mayfair, Johannesburg.

Over the years, however, it had grown to a point where its location was no longer adequate to cater for

learner requirements and hence there was a need for new space.

New premises were purchased and the school has, since January 2014, relocated to its new, spacious

premises on 18 Dunboyne Avenue, Crosby.

The school offers affordable, values-based Islamic education to Muslim boys, living in and around

Johannesburg. It has done so in response to a perceived lack of quality educational offering for boys to

lower and lower-middle class families living in the area.

The school is also particular in offering a platform to instil a strong Islamic moral foundation in its

learners, helping them to avoid the increasing incidence of drugs, crime and so on and to give them the

tools to become successful contributors to the overall society and economy.

We started with 25 learners in 2008, and now the school has grown to 170 boys in 2016.

Significance of the 'Suffah' name:

Symbolism:

Suffah Learning Institute is named after the ‘Ashaabus Suffah’.

Suffah means ‘platform’ in Arabic. Attached to and immediately outside the Masjid-un-Nabawi, there

was a sheltered platform where those Sahabah (RA), who had migrated from Makkah Mukarramah and

had no means of earning a livelihood nor any home or family, used to stay.

These Sahabah (RA) who lived on the Suffah where called the Ashaabus Suffah.

Today this platform still exists inside Masjid Nabawi.

About the Ashaabus Suffah (RA)

Nabi(ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) and Allah Ta’ala had great love for these Sahabah (RA). Nabi (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) would spend a great

amount of time in their company and Nabi (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) would not leave their company until they got up and

left. Nabi (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) used to treat them with great respect. He would spend a lot of time teaching them the

Deen and instilling in them the love for the Aakhirah.

Nabi (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) told them that they would enter Jannat 500 years before the wealthy people.

Allah Ta’ala has revealed many Aayaat of the Quraan, referring to these pious Sahabah (RA).

The Ashaabus Suffah (RA) were extremely poor. At times, while standing behind Nabi (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) they would

collapse, due to extreme hunger. They used to survive by trying to make ends meet in various ways.

Whenever sadaqa used to come to Rasulullah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص), he would send it all to the Ashaabus Suffah (RA)

without taking any of it. The Sahabah living in Medina Munawwarah used to also take special care of

them. Just as the Ashaabus Suffah did not have sufficient food, they also did not have enough clothing to

wear. Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (RA) says: ‘I saw seventy Ashaabus Suffah (RA) and none of them had a

sheet or blanket (large enough to cover his whole body). They used to wear cloth made from wool which

is called ‘Suf’ صوف in Arabic. They are therefore referred to as Sufis.

School Anthem

Here in Suffah are the promising gems

Standing on a platform strong and firm

Knowledge and piety are the treasures we seek

To raise the Ummah to its peak

Peace with Allah (SWT) and all He made

Remains our focus and will never fade

The love of Allah (SWT) is our strongest point

So all pains and stress pale to naught

The price of Jannah is never cheap

The blessing of Fajr is never in sleep

We have as models the As’habul Suffah

The earliest recipients of Nurullah

Where legacy has seen Islam this far

Through the grace of Rasoolullah (SAW)

May the flag of Islam be ever aloft

And only from Allah (SWT) we seek support

Lailaha illallah

Lailaha illallah

Lailaha illallah

Muhammadur- Rasoolullah (SAW)
