Learning Innovation Talks Round 2
Helsinki Summer School Helsinki Summer School is a
three-week academic event
organised every August by the
universities in Helsinki Metro-
politan area. Designing Teach-
er Education for the Future
(DETEF) is the first Helsinki
Summer School organized by
the Department of Teacher
Education, University of Hel-
sinki. In Finland, teacher educa-
tion has been based on a Mas-
ter’s degree for 30 years. The
excellent PISA-results of Finn-
ish 15-year-old pupils may
partially be explained by the
high quality of Finnish teacher
education.
The DETEF summer school
course is designed to intro-
duce the Finnish teacher edu-
cation experience from various
viewpoints: class, subject, kin-
dergarten and special teacher
education. Also, all majors are
represented, general and spe-
cial education as well as educa-
tional psychology.
Dr Logendra Stanley Ponniah
and Dr Rajandaran Perumal
attended the three-week
course. The lecturers from the
University of Finland were very
forthcoming in sharing what
they thought was the key ele-
ments that contributed to the
success of the Finnish Educa-
tion. There was a lot of sharing
of the different systems of
education by the respective
participants from places such
as Australia, Hong Kong, Rus-
sia, Spain, Turkey, Canada,
Chile, Mexico, China, USA and
France.
Some of the comments by
participants are:
“Good job and well done! I
would like to attend again.
Looking forward to this next
year.”
“Vet some of the presenters.
Improve internet speed & con-
nectivity—too many technical
glitches.”
“More discussions. Round the
table discussions.”
“Carousel sharing session for
participants to be engaged.
Perhaps the next LIT03 organ-
izer can do this.”
The next Learning Innovation
Talks will be hosted by IMU in
April 2013.

Equips teachers to harness the
power of technologies
We encourage our students to use a vast array of
technology to enhance their teaching and learning
initiatives. The promotion of technological re-
sources is supported by the “Apple campus expe-
rience”. Each student receives an iPad which is to
be used as an Educational Tool in their teaching
and learning of Net-Geners students.
