SPECIAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTSStudents who have not completed their BA, BBA, BSc, or equivalent at Crandall are required to take an additional 6 credit hours in Religious Studies courses in order to meet Crandall’s BA, BBA, or BSc equivalency requirements.

Crandall has partnerships with schools through Atlantic Education International in order to enable students to complete their internships abroad.

This is an excellent opportunity for students to experience different cultures around the world, and to make contacts for future teaching job opportunities.

Abroad H igh l igh tsThe BEd & BTEd internship is comprised of two parts: the first part is a 10 day in‑class observation in the school setting (locally or abroad).

For BEd Elementary & Secondary, the second part is a minimum 15 week full-time teaching internship. For BTEd students, the second part is a 16 week internship.

All requirements for a BA, BBA, BSc, or equivalent degree, must be completed prior to receiving a BEd degree. In addition, a strong academic record, evidence of professional suitability, supported by references and previous work or volunteer experience with children, is required.

CONSECUTIVEApplicants must have completed a BA, BBA, or BSc program (or equivalent).

Students’ post-secondary record must show evidence of above average performance.

CONCURRENTStudents must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or a ‘B’ equivalent (on a scale where 4.33 is the highest mark).

TEACHABLE REQUIREMENTSSecondary students are required to have a 30 credit hour major in a teachable subject or a 24 credit hour major in a teachable subject in addition to an 18 credit hour minor in a teachable subject.

Concurrent students can choose from a variety of teachable subjects offered at Crandall.

A list of recognized teachable subjects is available through the Province of New Brunswick.

Crandall’s Bachelor of Technical Education program has an excellent reputation in the public school system. Graduates are well‑prepared to pass on their skills to the next generation.

HAVE A DESIRE TO TEACH ASPECIAL INTEREST?

The BTEd degree is granted upon the completion of 69 credit hours of coursework at Crandall, including 18 credit hours addressed through an 18-week internship in a formal school setting.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTSSuccessful applicants must have a red seal in mechanics, carpentry, culinary, or welding.

Preference for admission will be given to those who can provide evidence of successful experience with adolescents.

The BTEd is a 138 credit hour program intended to equip individuals who possess previous technical skills and training with 21st century teacher training.

69 credit hours are transferred from prior training & experience, and it is possible to complete the program in as little as 16 months.

Graduates from the BTEd degree are eligible to apply for a Level 4 Teaching Certificate from the NB Department of Education.

This 18 week internship includes two weeks of observation and 16 consecutive weeks of actual teaching experience.

In this program, students will be introduced to key theories in second language acquisition (SLA), pedagogy specific to SLA within an immersion context, and be given the opportunity to improve their language proficiency and intercultural competency skills within French Immersion contexts, in line with the objectives of the European Language Portfolio.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTSThis program is for current Bachelor of Education students, or for persons who have already completed their B.Ed. (at Crandall or elsewhere), including those who may already be teaching.

Anglophone students must meet a minimum French proficiency requirement of ‘Intermediate Plus’ on an assessment taken within the last three years.

This 30 credit hour MEd is offered with a choice of concentrations in Inclusionary Practices or Literacy. Application‑based courses equip educators with the tools needed to apply their knowledge to their everyday work tasks. Graduates may go on to serve as teachers, administrators, literacy coaches, reading specialists, resource educators, or researchers.

LOOKING TO ENHANCE YOUR TEACHING ABILITY?Our MEd program is designed forstudents who need to work around a busy schedule. Students can register on a course by course basis, and courses are generally held weekly on Saturday mornings.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

Applicants to the MEd degree program are required to have a 60 credit hour Bachelor of Education degree, or equivalent, with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (B) and the equivalent of at least one year of full-time teaching experience.

The MEd is a 30 credit hour degree, which allows graduates who hold a Certificate 5 with the New Brunswick Department of Education to advance to a Certificate 6.

Students completing the MEd in Inclusionary Practices can also choose to take three courses that may be applied toward the Principal’s Certificate.

Applicants for non-degree Graduate Education coursework are required to have a 60 credit hour Bachelor of Education degree, or equivalent, with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (B).

Crandall offers three courses (12 credit hours) that count toward a principal’s certificate in New Brunswick.

Students may choose to enroll in these three courses as non-degree students or as part of the MEd program.

Theses courses, Administrative Theory, Supervision and Instructional Leadership, and Individual Student Assessment are offered annually.

“Crandall’s Education program provided me with life-changing opportunities that helped

shape my Education career. I had the opportunity to teach in South Korea before I enrolled in my BEd, and

while I was an Education student, I completed one of my teaching practicums in Australia. In addition, I also completed my Certificate VI in

Resource Education. I started my career as a high school teacher, then moved to a District Support Teacher and now I am working at District Office as a Subject Coordinator – Education Support Service. My role focuses on how schools can help support students with

all social, emotional and exceptional needs.”
