Don’t miss this opportunity to honor our soon-to-be graduates and wish them luck in their future endeavors. Our seniors and their future plans include: Sarah Kate Childs — North Carolina State University Sydney Kitchen — University of Edinburgh Maggie Talton — Gap Year Education for Ministry Over 14 years ago, Christ Church began offering Education for Ministry (EfM), a program developed more than 40 years ago by the School of Theology at The University of the South, (aka) Sewanee. In these years EfM has expanded into an international program as well as online groups. Adults who seek to deepen understanding of their faith, ex- plore the Bible, learn the history of the Christian Church and examine theology find a home in EfM groups. Knowing our stories, both personal and corporate and sharing them with one another in a safe, caring community, help us live into an Education for Ministry theme “Learning our HERITAGE; Living our FAITH.” Everyone’s story has a parallel in scripture. Knowing our stories, through learning our heritage grows us into stronger members of, to quote Bishop Curry, “The Jesus Movement.” As we study the Hebrew Scriptures (Year 1) we explore the stories, the history, the prophetic voices that undergird our Christian faith. The scriptures that Jesus and his followers knew are transformed by His teachings and by His ex- ample (Year 2). The history of the Church furthers the stories of the New Testament as we learn of canonical de- bates, development of doctrine, creeds and dogma, politics and wars (Year 3). These all culminate in a study of the theologies of our times (Year 4). Although EfM is a four-year program, participants commit to one year at a time. We meet weekly on Wednesdays from 6:00 – 8:30 pm for nine months, with breaks for Christmas and Easter. Seminar groups must have a minimum of six and a maximum of 12 participants, and are led by trained mentors. Anyone interested in learning more about this transformative adult education opportunity are invited to join us on Wednesday, May 29 at 6:00 pm in the chapel to celebrate the graduation of Leann Wilson with a pot luck in the Par- ish House to follow. There will be past and current EfMers to answer your questions and encourage your explora- tion. You may also contact mentors Harry Gormley (634-1749 / [email protected] ) or Edna Marie Thomas (876-6843 / [email protected]) or visit to http://efm.sewanee.edu for more information. Volunteers Requested The Newcomer Committee is calling for volunteers to assist with contacting young families new to our church and helping to organize Newcomer social activities. Call Betty Clark at 637.7657 if you are interested in helping.

Education for Ministry Over 14 years ago, Christ Church began offering Education for Ministry (EfM), a program developed more than 40

years ago by the School of Theology at The University of the South, (aka) Sewanee. In these years EfM has expanded

into an international program as well as online groups. Adults who seek to deepen understanding of their faith, ex-

plore the Bible, learn the history of the Christian Church and examine theology find a home in EfM groups.

Knowing our stories, both personal and corporate and sharing them with one another in a safe, caring community,

help us live into an Education for Ministry theme “Learning our HERITAGE; Living our FAITH.” Everyone’s

story has a parallel in scripture. Knowing our stories, through learning our heritage grows us into stronger members

of, to quote Bishop Curry, “The Jesus Movement.”

As we study the Hebrew Scriptures (Year 1) we explore the stories, the history, the prophetic voices that undergird

our Christian faith. The scriptures that Jesus and his followers knew are transformed by His teachings and by His ex-

ample (Year 2). The history of the Church furthers the stories of the New Testament as we learn of canonical de-

bates, development of doctrine, creeds and dogma, politics and wars (Year 3). These all culminate in a study of the

theologies of our times (Year 4).

Although EfM is a four-year program, participants commit to one year at a time. We meet weekly on Wednesdays

from 6:00 – 8:30 pm for nine months, with breaks for Christmas and Easter. Seminar groups must have a minimum

of six and a maximum of 12 participants, and are led by trained mentors.

The Christ Church vestry met on Monday, April 15, 2019, in the Pelletier Room of the church. Deborah Cook opened

the meeting with a devotional reading describing the leadership characteristics of Jesus. Sheridan Holstein and Deborah

veloping the Case Study outlining various projects under consideration for the Feasibility Study. (See more on page 3.)

The report from the Feasibility Study is due back to Christ Church June 9, 2019.

Sacred Sound & Space Task Force Update

By now you should have received a booklet in the mail

describing proposed enhancements to our worship

space. Included in the potential enhancements are a new

organ to replace our failing one, acoustical enhance-

ments, lighting improvements, refurbishing or replacing

the pews and acquiring a piano suitable for a worship

space the size of ours. Also included in the booklet is

the Vestry’s commitment to tithe 10% of all funds

raised to Outreach, should we launch a capital cam-

paign to fund the enhancements.

A consultant, the Vandersall Collective, is helping us by

performing a Feasibility Study to gauge parish support

for the projects and our willingness to support them

financially. Ultimately Vandersall will provide the Task

Force and the Vestry with a Feasibility Report, including

recommendations to the Vestry which, if any, projects

to undertake. The Vestry will consider the Task Force’s

recommendation and then make their own decision.

A key part of the Feasibility Study is a survey we would

like each household to complete. Instructions on how to

access the online version were included in the infor-

mation you received and can be found

at www.vandersallcollective.com/christchurchnewbern.

If you prefer to utilize a paper survey, please let the

church office know. Your response to the survey will be

kept confidential and is very important to us as we move

forward. The deadline for submission is May 26th.

Please direct any questions or input about the Task

Force’s work to [email protected].
