The five new symposia are: (t) Original Clinical Studies, (2) Photobiology and Photosensitivity: Current Concepts, (3) Ache, (4) Mycosis Fun- goides Update, and (5) Update/Basic Research: Cell Proliferation.

Original Clinical Studies

George Hambrick, Jr., M.D., directs this forum for the presentation of clinical investigative studies concerning patients and their diseases. Topics will focus on recent developments in dermatologic dis- ease, therapy, treatment, and other subjects of clinical relevance.

Photobiology and Photosensitivity: Current Concepts

The symposium, directed by John Epstein, M.D., examines the basic principles of photosensi- tivity reactions, practical methods of photosensi- tive patient evaluation, the use of sunscreening agents, and the effects of old and new photosensi- tizers. The second portion of the symposium re- ports on current problems and developments in the field of photosensitivity.

Acne

Shedding new light on an old disease, Peter Pochi, M.D., directs this symposium for the prac- ticing dermatologist to acquire a better under- standing of the etiopathogenic factors in acne. The symposium also reviews recent clinical studies on the efficacy and safety of newer drugs and applica- tions used for the treatment of acne.

Mycosis Fungoides Update

A review of mycosis fungoides, directed by Eugene Van Scott, M.D., and Eric Vonderherd, M.D., will cover the disease's biologic attributes or concomitants, diagnosis, treatment, and prog- nosis. Students will learn in-depth information on the clinical aspects of the disease as well as new information of the pathologic processes involved in the disease evolution.

Update/Basic Research: Cell Proliferation

Lila Gruber awardee Emil Frei, M.D., is one of the faculty in this symposium directed by Gerald Weinstein, M.D. The symposium will cover the basic concepts of cell proliferation in the skin and will investigate how disease processes and their

biochemical modulators influence cell cycle ki- netics. Cutaneous tumor growth, cytokinetics, and cancer chemotherapy are among the topics covered in this symposium.

COURSES The three new courses are: (1) Occupational

Dermatoses, (2) Cutaneous Cryosurgery, and (3) Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.

Occupational Dermatoses

This course provides an updated review of the impact of various predisposing and direct causes of work-related skin disorders. The course faculty, under the direction of Gerald Gellin, M.D., will cover methods of diagnosis (including patch testing), approaches to treatment, and the preven- tion of occupational dermatoses. Dermatoses among farm workers and machinists will be covered specifically in this course related to occu- pational skin disease.

Cutaneous Cryosurgery A series of lectures, film presentations, panel

discussions, and a laboratory session under the direction of Douglas Torte, M.D., and Ronald Lu- britz, M.D., are part of this course. Subjects covered include modern cryosurgical procedures, instrumentation, indications, contraindications, and techniques. The course will deal with these subjects for both malignant and nonmalignant tumors.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

In conjunction with the Chicago Heart Associa- tion, the Academy will offer this course on basic life support techniques for adults and children. The course, under the direction of Marshall Blanken- ship, M.D., and John Keane, M.D., will combine lecture and actual practice of techniques on mani- kins, Upon completion of a performance test, course students will receive a Heart Association CPR Recognition Card certifying them as qualified in basic CPR.

The Annual Meeting begins on Saturday, De- cember 1, and ends on Thursday, December 6 in Chicago. Both the Conrad Hilton and Palmer House Hotels will host the meeting events and registrants. Shuttle buses will provide transporta- tion between the two hotels.
