When Rachel looked at him she remembered Ambrose. Shawl – a cloth worn over the head and shoulders by women. Sewing – working with a needle and colored threads onto cloth. Accuse - to accuse someone is to say that that they done something wrong. Spoilt – who has always been given what they wanted. Entertaining - inviting guests and giving and them meals in ypur house.

Widow = a woman whose husband has died. Quarter – every quarter is every three months. Generous – to give someone presents and money. Impulsive – deciding to do something quickly an without thinking. Ashamed – feeling that your have done something wrong or foolish. Tenants – farmers and workers on the estate collar of pearls – a strong of small, white stones worn round the neck. Bride – a women who is to be married. Overdrawn – Mrs. Ashley was spending more than she had in the bank. Sunken water – garden – a garden which has money steps leading down to it. It is decorated with pools, fountains, trees and plants. Violent – wanting to fight and hit people. Veil – a very thin piece of cloth worn over a woman's face. Forgive – to excuse someone when he has done something wrong Deceived – tricked someone , told them lies. Inn – a place where people stay for the night and have drinks.
