WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION
Dear Team Manager, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all teams for the new season of the EGHAM MONDAY NIGHT LEAGUE. Please find enclosed your fixtures for the new season at Egham Leisure Centre Your handbook shows the first five weeks of fixtures along with playing & administrative rules.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY THE ADMINISTRATIVE RULES &
REGULATIONS TOWARDS THE BACK OF THIS HANDBOOK.
ALTHOUGH ALL THE POINTS MENTIONED ARE IMPORTANT, I WOULD
LIKE TO DRAW YOUR URGENT ATTENTION TO POINTS 2 & 3. IN THE
UNLIKELY EVENT OF ANY BREACH OF THESE RULES, THEY WILL BE
STRICTLY IMPLEMENTED.
All that remains for me to say is Good Luck and enjoy the season! Yours in Sport Matt Smart Event Manager & League Secretary

MANAGERS GUIDE Please find below some information and rules you need to be made aware of and act on where necessary: 1. MATCH TIME
Example - 40 minute games are 41 minutes in total, this includes 1 minute for half time. So the quicker you change round the more game time you will have. INJURY TIME - This may or may not be allowed depending on the venue and how tight the schedule is. Later games should not have their time cut due to any overtime played in an earlier game.
2. TEAMS SHOWING UP LATE In all these scenarios, BOTH teams must be informed of the starting score and relevant payments before kick off.
a) If a team shows up before half time, the late team must start a goal down for every 5 minutes they are late and both teams must pay in full. Can play one long game without changing ends to maximize playing time.
b) If a team shows up at half time, the late team will start 3 – 0 down and have to pay 1½ x match fee (other team pay ½ match fee).
c) If a team shows up after half time, the late teams get a 3 – 0 defeat and will be invoiced for the match fees (2 x match fee).
3. BORROWING PLAYERS There is a minimum amount of players required for a game to go ahead. 5 a side - minimum of 3 6 a side – minimum of 4
7 a side – minimum of 5 If a team does not have enough players they may wish to borrow a player from another team. In this case the team must get permission from the opposition. This must be witnessed by the coordinator/referee. All the following circumstances must be witnessed by the referee/coordinator
a) If they agree, the game will go ahead as normal. b) If they disagree, then the team will have to play with the minimum or forfeit
the game (3 – 0 defeat and 2 x match fee) c) If they disagree, a 3 – 0 win is awarded and a friendly played, with both teams
paying their match fee. 4. DISCIPLINE All caution details are reported to the coordinator at the end of the night. 1 x yellow = £10, this will increase by £10 if not paid by the due date. 2 x yellow = £20, this will increase by £10 if not paid by the due date. Straight Red Cards – Go directly to the FA. 5. ABANDONED GAMES If 75% or more of the game has been played, the result will stand. If less than 75% of the game has been played, the game may be replayed,
depending on the circumstances. 6. No trophies will be given to any teams owing money at the end of the season! 7. All decisions made by Champion Soccer are final.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ABUSIVE LANGUAGE AIMED AT MATCH
OFFICIALS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED BY EITHER
CHAMPION SOCCER OR THE REFEREES THEMSELVES.
WE AIM TO PROVIDE A LEAGUE THAT IS ENJOYABLE FOR BOTH PLAYERS AND OFFICIALS ALIKE.
WITHOUT THE REFEREES THERE
WOULD NOT BE A LEAGUE!!
NO-SHOWS &WHAT TO DO IF YOU’RE STRUGGLING TO
FULFIL A FIXTURE?
• PLEASE REMEMBER, WE ARE HERE TO HELP – THAT INCLUDES IF AND WHEN YOU
ARE STRUGGLING TO GET A TEAM TOGETHER.
• REMEMBER, YOU ARE ALLOWED TO REGISTER NEW PLAYERS AT ANY POINT DURING
THE SEASON, SO IF YOUR REGULARS CAN’T MAKE IT, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO DRAFT
NEW PLAYERS IN AT ANY TIME.
• IF YOU ARE STRUGGLING FOR PLAYERS – FOR WHATEVER REASON – PLEASE DON’T
JUST FORGET ABOUT IT & NOT TURN UP, CONTACT US ON 0113 253 5800 AND
WE’LL TRY TO HELP YOU OUT.
WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP?
We do appreciate, it can sometimes be difficult to get a full team.
If this is you, then we will do all we can to help. IF YOU LET US KNOW , then we can speak to our
coordinator and/or refs prior to kick off who will try and arrange a couple of stand in players for you
just for that night - so even if you’ve only got 3 or 4 players it makes sense to go down and play.
Even if you don’t manage to scrape together your total match fee for that week, its MUCH, MUCH
cheaper to turn up, pay what you can, borrow a couple of players (with the oppos agreement of
course) than it is to not bother, and have an invoice for a double match fee !!
Please help us to help you!!!
THE OTHER REASON WE ARE SO KEEN TO HELP YOU AVOID ANY ‘NO-SHOWS’ IS
BECAUSE OF THE CONSEQUENCES THAT YOU SUFFER – PLEASE SEE BELOW THE
ADMIN RULING OUTLINED IN YOUR HANDBOOK.
ADMIN RULE 2.
If a team fails to fulfil a fixture and informs Champion Soccer of this by
4.30pm on the day of the match, then they shall be fined the cost of the
match, e.g £ 35.00 x 2 = £ 70.00 + vat. Their opposition shall be awarded a 3-
0 win and free use of the pitch for the duration of the match.
Furthermore, should the team fail to inform Champion Soccer of their
intended NO SHOW by 4.30pm on the day of the match, the team will be
charged a further £15 + vat.
*WE WOULD LIKE TO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT THE REASON FOR THIS RULE IS
NOT BECAUSE WE WANT TO STING YOU FOR MORE MONEY, IT IS BECAUSE
WE WANT ALL GAMES TO GO AHEAD AND NO-ONE TO BE LEFT
DISAPPOINTED. AS I’M SURE YOU CAN ALL APPRECIATE, THERE IS NOTHING
WORSE THAN TURNING UP FOR A GAME AND FINDING OUT THAT YOU’RE
OPPONENTS HAVEN’T BOTHERED TO!

RULES AND REGULATIONS
PLAYERS & PLAYERS EQUIPMENT
A team will consist of 5 players, one of whom must be a goalkeeper, and a squad of up to 8 players per night. A rolling substitution system will be in force allowing players to come on and go off as many times as they wish. The referee must be notified before a substitution is made.
A player must not use equipment or wear anything that is dangerous to himself or another player, INCLUDING ANY KIND OF JEWELLERY. All players MUST wear shinguards with KNEE LENGTH socks covering.
All players must wear identical shirts. Bibs will be provided to teams who require them.
THE REFEREE
Each match is controlled by a referee who has full authority to enforce the Laws of the Game in connection with the match to which he has been appointed, from the moment he enters the locality where the pitch is situated until he leaves. Decisions of the referee regarding facts connected with play are final.
DURATION OF MATCH
The duration of the match shall be of 40 minutes played in two equal halves of 20 minutes. The half time interval shall not exceed 1 minute.
START OF PLAY/BALL IN & OUT OF PLAY
All matches are to be started by the toss of the referees coin. The winning team then kicks off from the centre spot. A goal may be scored directly from the kick off. After a goal has been scored, the game shall restart from the centre spot.
The ball is out of play when it has left the caged area. It will be restarted with a kick in from where it when over. If the ball goes over the ends (i.e behind the goals) it is keepers ball. You cannot score from a kick in
There are no offsides
FOULS AND MISCONDUCT
• All fouls and misconduct will be dealt with by the match referee and punished accordingly.
• All freekicks are direct and defenders must retreat at least 2 YARDS from where the kick is to be taken.
• The ball is NOT allowed above headheight. A direct freekick shall be given against the offending team. No heading of the ball is allowed
• Keepers must throw the ball out UNDERARM (BELOW KNEE HEIGHT) at all times or a free kick shall be awarded 5 yards outside the area of the offending team (dead centre). No kicking of the ball is allowed by the keeper, unless in the act of making a save.
• The F.I.F.A. Backpass rule does not apply to the EGHAM 5-a-side League. Goalkeepers may pick up backpasses in open play. However, when the goalkeeper throws the ball out, a direct back pass to the goalkeeper is not allowed. A freekick shall be awarded against the offending team 5 yards outside the penalty area (dead centre).
• A direct backpass to the goalkeeper is not permitted directly from a freekick, kick in or a corner. A freekick shall be awarded against the offending team from the position of the original kick.
The goalkeeper is the only player allowed in the penalty area at all times. If the goalkeeper leaves the area intentionally, or a defender enters
(again intentionally) then a penalty shall be awarded. Please note: This is the only time a penalty shall be awarded and the
penalty taker can take as many steps as required.(All players must stand BEHIND the penalty taker when he is taking the penalty).
• If an attacking player enters the penalty area, the referee shall award the ball to the goalkeeper, with play commencing with the ball being thrown out (underarm).
• If the goalkeeper kicks the ball when returning it into the field of play then a freekick shall be awarded 5 yards outside the penalty area.
• Slide tackles are not permitted at any time, and a direct freekick shall be awarded against the offending team.
ADDITIONAL RULES & REGULATIONS TO NOTE
• All players must register with CHAMPION SOCCER prior to a match commencing. Players can only play for 1 team in any given season, unless CHAMPION SOCCER gives permission. Players can be ‘signed on’ at any time – managers must call CHAMPION SOCCER to register players BEFORE they are eligible to play.
• All players must be aged 16 years or over.
• Champion Soccer will deal with all cautions administered during games internally, as per directives issued by the FA in September 2001.
• Further misconduct ie red cards, will be sent to your local County FA and will be dealt with as per the Laws of Association Football.
• Except where provided for in these rules, the laws of Association Football Shall apply.
ADMINISTRATIVE
RULES & REGULATIONS
1. As Team Manager you have made a commitment to fulfil all your fixtures for the spring - summer 2011 season. It is therefore your responsibility to ensure that your team is ready to play each week at the allocated times.
For every 5 minutes a team is late they shall lose one goal, up to a maximum of three. Please note - no excuses will be accepted for late arrivals and the above rule will be strictly enforced. We suggest you aim to arrive at least 15 minutes before you are due to play in order to prevent any problems. A team MUST have a minimum of THREE players for the game to commence.
2. Fees are £35.00 per team per week. This fee takes into account the teams paying the self-employed referees fees for the evening.
If a team fails to fulfil a fixture and informs Champion Soccer of this by 4.30pm on the day of the match, then they shall be fined the cost of the match, £ 35.00 x 2 = £ 70.00 + vat. Their opposition shall be awarded a 3-0 win and free use of the pitch for 40 minutes. Furthermore, should the team fail to inform Champion Soccer of their intended NO SHOW by 4.30pm on the day of the match, the team will be charged a further £15 + vat.
3. Rearrangement of matches:
Champion Soccer cannot rearrange matches for teams – once the handbook is out and confirmed the fixtures are set in
stone. However, if a team gives 28 days WRITTEN notice to Champion Soccer with a very good reason, a rearrangement maybe considered,
and the fine may be waived in exceptional circumstances.
Any application to rearrange or cancel a fixture at less than 28 days notice WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, and
fines will be implemented as per Admin rule no. 2
Champion Soccer has the right to re-arrange fixtures that have been cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control eg Weather,
floodlight failure etc.
4. If any team withdraws from the league during the course of
the season, they shall be liable for payment of all remaining match fees, unless a replacement team can be found, by the team wishing to withdraw.
5. If a team wishes to change their manager at any stage of the season this can only be done by writing to Champion Soccer. This request must be dated and accompanied by the signatures of both the former and new managers, along with confirmation that the new manager will accept responsibility to fulfil and pay for all fixtures as required and agree to abide by the rules of the competition.
6. If, in the unlikely event a referee is unable to attend for
whatever reason, teams will play their matches as normal, and pay half price. In this instance, the first named team on the fixture list should provide one of their subs as a referee. If this is not possible, then the second team should do likewise. In the event of neither side being able to provide an ‘extra man’ to officiate, or being unable to agree, the match should go ahead without a referee, and the teams pay half price to the co-ordinator.
7. Any complaints must be made in writing to Champion
Soccer within 7 days of the incident occurring.
8. Payment can be made in 2 ways.
a) Payment by cash or cheque each week to the League’s representative PRIOR TO THE MATCH COMMENCING ! (please note that if a team plays twice in one night (ie TWO full length matches), then 2 match fees are applicable – NO EXCEPTIONS) (This does not apply on Cup Finals night, where just one fee is payable, irrespective of the amount of matches a team plays)
b) Payment on invoice for a full season. (subject to VAT)
9. Champion Soccer reserves the right to add interest at 1% per calendar month (12% per annum) for any outstanding debts accrued at the seasons end.
NO PAY = NO PLAY = NO EXCEPT
