A is for A fter Life
The after life is life after death. The ancient Egyptiansbelieved that the afterlife was a heavenly place with aheavenly Nile River. The Egyptians called this place the landof the Two Fields. At first only pharaohs could travel to theland of the Two Fields, but the god Osiris opened the door tothe afterlife to everyone.
B is for B eetles
To the ancient Egyptians, the scarab beetle is thesymbol of hope and restoration of life. Seals were createdwith the shape of the scarab beetle and were used to stampdocuments. They even made scarab jewelry using preciousgems and painted clay.

C is for C at
Almost all Egyptian homes had a cat. But they were notpets. The Egyptians believed that cats had powers thatwould keep their homes and children from danger. They kepta cat for protection.
D is for D ynasty
A dynasty is a series of rulers that are all from the samefamily. The first dynasty was from 3100 BC to 2890 BC.

Elite people are people of wealth and power. Some arefamily members of pharaohs. Others get their wealth byhaving a talent like making jewelry or making hieroglyphics.
F is for F ive-string harp
The five-string harp is arched with a curved neck.
Made usually out of cedar wood.

There are many gods that the Egyptians worshiped.Most where based on the four elements, Earth, wind, fire,and water.
H is for H ieroglyphics( hy-ruh-GLIH-fiks )
Hieroglyphics is the form of writing that the EgyptiansUsed. They would put it in tombs, on jewelry, and on stone
slabs.

I is for Isis
Isis is one of the most important goddess in ancientEgypt. She was regarded as the feminine counterpart toOsiris.in the Osiris legend she was seen as a protector of thedead. She had wings and may have represented the wind.
J is for J ackal headed god
Anubis is one of many gods of Egypt. He has the headof a jackal. He is normally depicted in black. This blackrepresents the silt deposit from the Nile, which the Egyptiansbelieved symbolized rebirth.

K is for K hufu
Khufu was a Egyptian ruler. He is most famous forbuilding the pyramid of Giza as his tomb. He wasresponsible for centralizing the government and limitingpowers vested in Egyptian priests.
L is for L otus flower
The lotus flower was seen as purity and beauty. It wasalso symbolized as rebirth and the sun. The Egyptiansobserved that in the night-time the lotus closed its pedalsand sank into the water. When the flower came back up itreminded the Egyptians of the sun rising.

M is for M ummies
The process of raping the body is called mummification.Theyd rap t he body in linins. The mummification processtook seventy days. They removed all the organs except theheart, they believed the heart was the center of a personsbeing and intelligence.
N is for N ile river
The Nile River is the lo ngest river in the world. Its about4,160 miles long. The silt from the Nile created a fertilegreen valley across the desert.

The god Osiris is the god of the dead. He was shownwith white mummy wrappings and a black beard. His skinwas green to represent vegetation.
P is for P haraoh
Pharaohs are the ancient kings or rulers of Egypt. The
Egyptians believed that the pharaoh was half-man and half-god.

Q is for Q ebehsennuf
Qebehsennufs duty was to protect the ent rails of thedead. He would also store them in his canopy jar. After thatthe body would be mummified.
R is for R osetta Stone
A Rosetta Stone was a huge stone slab. It wasinscribed with hieroglyphics. They were used to tell storiesand collect data.

S is for S arcophagus
A sarcophagus is the case used to keep mummifiedbodys. T hey are made of stone and have special markingson them to identify the individual inside.
T is for T omb
A tomb is a place where the mummified bodys ar ekept. Because the Egyptians believed in the afterlife theywould shower the walls with hieroglyphics so that the bo dysspirit would be comfortable.

U is for U pper Egypt
Upper Egypt is the strip of land on both sides of the Nilevalley that extends between Nubia, and downriver( northward ) to Lower Egypt.
V is for Valley of the kings
The Valley of the Kings is a valley in the afterlife. TheEgyptians believed that the afterlife was like Egypt. It had aNile River and a valley. They believed that only kings andpharaohs could go to the afterlife.

A winnowing fan is used to separate grain from chaff.Husks were blown away by the wind made from thewinnowing fan and the grains would fall.
X is for X-rays of mummies
With todays modern technology we can take x-rays ofmummies. With the x-rays we can digitally reconstruct thebody.

Y is for Y inepu
Yinepu ( also know as Anubis ) had the head of a jackal. He was the caretaker and watcher over the dead. Hewas put on the walls of all tombs so that he could alwayswatch over the spirits.
Z is for Z odiac
The zodiac is a sign based on when you were born.The signs are based on gods. If you were born in a certainrange of days in a year, then you are that groups sign.
