PURPOSE
The purpose of Ehlanzeni TVET College is to create a quality
teaching and learning environment in which students can
acquire the necessary knowledge, practical skills and applied
vocational and occupational competence as well as the
necessary attr ibutes required for employment, self-
employment, entry to a particular vocation, occupation or
trade or into a higher education institution in order to respond to
the human resource, economic and development needs of
South Africa.

DHET TVET COLLEGES BURSARY SCHEME
DHET TVET bursaries will be available for students who enroll for
Report 191 courses and NC(V) Programmes.
The following students are eligible to apply:
• Only South African citizens.
• Students wishing to enroll for Report 191 (NATED) courses
and NC(V) programmes.
• Students who are nancially needy.
• Students who perform academically.
• Must not be enrolling for a qualication equivalent to
previous learning that was state-funded.
• NC(V) Levels 2/3 and Report 191 (NATED) courses students
who were awarded bursar ies in 2018 and have
academically progressed to the next level in 2019.
• Students who were awarded bursaries for NC(V) Levels 2/3
or Report 91 N1/N2/N3/N4/N5/N6 in 2018 but have not
academically progressed to the next Levels in 2019, will not
be eligible for bursaries in 2019.
To be considered for a bursary award, the following documents
must accompany the bursary application form that the College
will provide:
• Three certied copies of the student’s ID.
• Two certied copies of Parents/Guardians’ ID.
• Two certied copies of birth certicates of other members in
the household.
• The latest original or certied copies of the parents /

guardians’ payslips.
• Sworn afdavits from parents/guardians in the event that
they are unemployed.
• Proof of death in the event that parents/guardians are
deceased.
• Proof of residential address.
DHET BURSARIES ARE NOT GUARANTEED
There are procedures in place for the administration and
awarding of these bursaries. The application process is now
electronic/ student apply online to NSFAS.
CLASS ATTENDANCE
• Students are expected to attend 100% of their classes and
will be allowed to write the examination for every subject for
which they have attained a minimum of 80% class
attendance (including authorised absence and sickness)
per subject.
• If you are a new prospective student who has been
provisionally accepted you must apply for a bursary at the
campus.
• Students must be punctual.
• Students who arrive ve minutes late after the start of the
period will be regarded as late (but will be allowed in class)
and indicated on the register.
• Students may not be denied access to class unless they
cause/display disruptive behavior. In the case where the
student is late three or more consecutive days per subject

such a student should be marked absent on the fourth day
by the subject lecturer.
• Regular student absenteeism and late coming will be
followed up by contacting parents/ guardians/ employers/
sponsors within the relevant faculties/ departments for
disciplinary action.
• Class attendance, academic/ programme progress and
disciplinary warning(s) will affect students' testimonials.
• A special certicate will be awarded for 100% attendance.
• Attendance will be used as one of the criteria for work
placement of students or learnerships.
• Attendance will be used as a criterion for student bursary
allocation.
• If a student was absent for three or more consecutive
lecturing days due to death of a family member, evidence
must be provided on the day he/she resumes classes. If
absenteeism was due to illness, a medical certicate must
be submitted immediately on the day he/she commences
class.
• If a test/internal examination/assessment was written and a
medical note or evidence of death of a family member was
not submitted, a zero (0) mark will be entered on the mark
sheet.
• Pregnant students: A medical certicate, stating the due
date of birth, must be submitted as soon as the pregnancy
was conrmed.
• The student must take maternity leave for the last 4 weeks of
the pregnancy unless a medical certicate is submitted
that allows the student to continue attending classes.

• Students may not leave the venues during periods/lecturing
times unless the necessary permission has been obtained
from the lecturers.
• Cell phones must be switched off at all times in Lecture
rooms, Examination rooms, Assemblies and during meetings
• All personal appointments should be made after lecturing
hours, over weekends or during vacations. Absence due to
such appointments will be regarded as non – attendance,
even if a student notied his/ her lecturers.
• The student should not be allowed to register for the next
trimester/semester/year if their average class attendance
for the previous trimester/ semester/ year is less than 80%.
The times absent with a valid reason e.g. a doctor's note or
a copy of a death certicate of a close family member
which has been submitted must be taken into account,
these absences should then not count.
• Clothing should be neat and acceptable in a societal and
corporate environment and students' bags free of
provocative or offensive statements, slogans or signs.
CANCELLATION OF PROGRAMMES:
Must be done in writing, during the registration period (as
advertised), failing to do this, students will be liable for the full
cost of tuition fees.
EXAMINATIONS:
Only students who have registered for full-time and part-time
programmes and who have complied with the requirements will
be allowed to register for examinations.

NATIONAL CERTIFICATE (VOCATIONAL)
The Department of Education introduced the National Certicate (Vocational) at public Further Education and Training in 2007. The NC (V) offer programmes of study in a variety of vocational skills demand of the South African economy.
The National Certicate (Vocational) is offered at levels 2, 3 and 4 of the National Qualication Framework (NQF). The qualication is designed to provide both theory and practical experience in all vocational elds.
The practical component of the study may be offered in the workplace or simulated workplace environment. Students have the opportunity to experience work situation during the period of study.
In order to facilitate access to the National Certicate (Vocational), the Department of Higher Education and Training has set aside a budget for bursaries. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) administers the bursaries on behalf of the Department of Higher Education and Training.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
NQF Level 2 requires:• A year-end school report for Grade 9, 10, 11 or Grade 12 certicate• An NQF Level 1 qualication• Competency and placement test is compulsory

OCCUPATIONAL LEARNING PROGRAMMES
The Occupational Programmes offered at Ehlanzeni TVET Col lege include Learnerships, Art isan Development Programmes and Registered Skills Programmes. The focus of these programmes is geared towards preparing students for a specic trade.
A Learnership is based on a legally binding agreement between an employer, a student and a training provider.
Learnerships offered by the College combines theory at the College or Training Centre with relevant practice on-the-job. It is designed to ensure the quality of the training and to protect the interest of each individual party in order to become qualied. Students must be assessed against unit standards registered with SAQA.
Skills programmes are unit-standards-based programmes that are demand-driven as determined by community needs. They are unit standards programmes extracted from a formal full qualication registered with SAQA which the College offers in partnership with the relevant SETA or QCTO.
