Hey Key Clubbers,
Anyone else feel like they’re going to die from all this school work yet? It’s been a stressful month and I’m pretty sure the next month won’t be any better but hang in there! We got some fun projects to help relieve some stress. Fall Rally just passed so the next big thing we’re waiting for would probably be Induction Dinner and Key Leaser which are some events that I hope you guys are thinking about attending! We started off great this year! Let’s keep it up!

Hey Cubs! I hope you all are doing well, as per usual. I know that the month of October has been rather slow for Key Club…but no worries! We will start picking it back up with the rush and hustle of Induction Dinner. For those of you who don’t already know, Induction Dinner is an annual dinner we have with our own club in the school cafeteria. This year, our theme is “Heroes of Service!” You can be any superhero, or even villain, that you’d like, but remember: no cos-tumes! I don’t want to see ANYONE with spandex. I’m not letting you in. Here, you will get your membership card and Key Club pin! Keep updated on our Facebook page for more details! Also, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is THIS WEEKEND! Remember to check where you’re going to meet up in the corresponding neighborhoods (Fernwood, Reserves, Cedar Crest, La Costa/Crystal Lakes)! Unlike Induction Dinner, you are ALLOWED to wear costumes! It is highly recommended that you do. Just imagine a bunch of Key Clubbers walking around after Halloween, raising money for UNICEF. Isn’t it great? J Well anyway, I hope you guys are signing up for projects and attending them! And remember that ALL the officers are here to help you guys! Don’t ever be afraid to talk to me if you need to ask a question, need someone to vent to, or just to say hi. I don’t bite (but Stevenson might). Have a safe and Happy Hal-loween! UNICEF Drawing Contest. Youth.UNICEFUSA.org. During the annual Trick-Or-Treat for UNICEF event, Key Clubbers go around the neighborhood to ask for donations to help children around the world. Along with its many partners, ELIMINATE is one of UNICEF’s biggest partners. Egg Harbor Township Key Club will be visiting several developments to collect donations. These developments include Lacosta Lakes, Crystal Lakes, the Reserves, Cedar Crest, and Fernwood. Each Key Clubber will be dressed in a festive to promote the event which will take place November 6th and November 7th. This year, each box has a special feature. The boxes are blank allowing people to draw and design to their liking and to spread the festive Halloween spirit. In addition to the new feature, UNICEF is also hosting a contest to see who can design the most creative and well-drawn boxes. The box designs will be due by October 26th. Egg Harbor Township Key Club will also be hosting a contest. The judging will be done by the OCC board the winner of the contest will receive service hours. There might be multiple winners so start drawing on the boxes soon!

The admission fee for the Annual EHTHS Key Club Induction is subjected to change depending on the catering host. The induc-
tion dinner will include a full buffet dinner followed by a talent show featuring special talents from the Key Clubbers, an induction
ceremony for new Key Clubbers as well as some ice breakers to get the night started for some fun! Bring a friend or parent to join
the party!

including a scary maze, bowling, ring toss, mummy wrapping, face painting, fortune telling and more!
What’s Halloween without being scared? Every year the Scullville Volunteer Firefighters put together an event that lasts the entire month of October. I’ve been going for the last three years and I can say that each year has brought new memories. There are tons of little kids that get scared but many have a great time as some of the zombies and vampires run around and even dance as we wait in line. The main attraction of the “Terror at the Junkyard” is the haunted hayride. A thirty minute hayride where different phobias came to life. Clowns, hospitals and tons of spiders surround the tractor with many fire fighters and Key Clubbers trying to terrify the customers. Little kids may get scared easily by some of the make up on the zombies and rag dolls, but the older kids and adults are a bit harder to scare. Train lights and sound effects made me jump but the Christmas section of the hayride was new to me. “Snow” fell from the sky, probably to lighten the mood of the seven year olds on the ride. After the hayride most kids choose to go to the maze, but this year I decided to explore some of the other parts of the junk-yard. With the chilly weather of fall, lines for warm apple cider were long and many of the Key Clubbers were dressed as creatures slowly walking up behind customers to give them a good scare. A special thank you to; Javier Fernan-dez, Tommy Lam, Josh Chin, Jess Pamfilo, Patrick Tsui, Ahsan Ikram and Selena Xaysana who donated over 15 hours each, every weekend to help make this event a success!

On Saturday October 13th, the Latin Carnival took place. This was my sec-ond time volunteering at the Latin Carnival and it was more fun than the first. I had volunteered to help out with some of the games and I loved it. The feeling you get being able to make someone smile is one of the best feel-ings you can get and I think many others who volunteered would agree with me. That is what we did Saturday, we made kids smile. We had about 200 kids come this year; the most we had ever gotten. Many kids left happy that day. The Latin Carnival had all kinds of games. Some include bowling, ring
toss, twister, hula hoop contest, musi-cal chairs, limbo, and much more. I gotten the opportunity to help out with ring toss, hula hoop contests, and bowling. When you're constantly busy and moving it makes the job go by so fast. The Latin Carnival also had cos-tume contests and art tables where we had people face paint, make masks, and paint nails; something that was really popular with the kids. Some of the other popular attractions were the piñatas which were all handmade along with the maze. Overall, the Latin Carnival was such a great experience. I will definitely be attending again next year!

Key Clubbers woke up very early on a freezing Saturday and went to Atlantic City to help fill the
cups up with water and Gatorade (left), cheer on the runners as they cross the 14th mile of the
marathon (middle) and also provide them with a drink that that runners can grab when they pass
by (right). Even though the even overall was about 6 hours, Key Clubbers kept their enthusiasm.
AC Marathon at Dawn
The Atlantic City Marathon was an exhilarating day filled with hopes
and dreams for the runners. People cheered for family members that
were participating. Key Clubbers supplied the runners with Gatorade,
water and emotional support to keep them moving and to tell them
they’re amazing. It felt good to actually see the last runners run back
because they wanted to achieve something they started. With our amaz-
ing camera man Pak Chau shooting amazing pictures we got pictures of
people trying their hardest. The marathon was a truly inspirational event
that in the future I hope we can watch again. The weather was harsh and frigid but with the warmth of all our Key Clubbers, we got through it. The most amazing thing was Kristopher Tran and Hai Lee crossing the street and picking the cups from the way. They then recycled all the cups. Throughout the run, we refilled any water cups with Gatorade for the runners to come. The cheering was fun; we got to meet new members and we got to know each other and most importantly survived the cold morning with our fiery passion for serive. The event was amazing!

Key Leader is a weekend experiential leader-ship program for today's young leaders. This life-changing event focuses on service leader-ship as the first, most meaningful leadership-development experience. A Key Leader will learn the most important lesson of leader-ship—it comes from helping others succeed. Participants begin by attending a Key Leader conference, which is a weekend retreat. Large and small group workshops, discussions and team-building activities take place over the course of the weekend. Students have oppor-tunities to learn leadership skills that will help them to change their schools, communi-
ties, and world for the better. While explor-ing leadership in a whole new way, partici-pants will make amazing new friends and have experiences they will never forget. Posi-tive, ongoing interaction with other Key Leader graduates offers continuing reinforce-ment, encouragement and growth of leader-ship skills. Since April 2005 Key Leader has served more than 16,400 students at 317 Key Leader events in 39 U.S. states, 5 Canadian prov-inces, Malaysia, Brazil, Cayman Islands, El Salvador and Singapore.
