Retrouvaille – A lifeline for troubled marriages

Has your marriage become unloving or uncaring – your relationship grown cold, distant – thinking about a separation or divorcé? Are you already separated/divorced but both of you wish to try again – then the Retrouvaille program may help you. Retrouvaille (Rediscovery) sponsored by the Family Life Office/Diocese of Metuchen consists of a weekend experience for couples (no group discussions) with six follow-up sessions. The next program initiates the weekend of September 16-18, 2016. All inquires are confidential. For further information please call the Family Life Office 732-562-1990 x4573, Rich & Annette Colasuonno 732-236-0671 or Tom & Pat McTague 732-583-4468 (evenings).

SPREADING THE WORD

“Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” Luke 12:15

The Gospel message today is so contrary to our modern culture where advertising continually tries to convince us that our value lies in the things we possess. Jesus showed us that our true value lies in the way we live our lives. He challenges us to not store up or hoard material possessions, but rather to live a grateful and generous lifestyle.

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly “Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator? Then he said to the crowd, ‘Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions… This will be for all who store up treasure for themselves but are not rich in what matters to God.”

A well known teacher reported that the early explorers of our land came, driven by four things – glory, gold, greed and God. Their exploits have been celebrated facing difficult times and adverse conditions. If there was a lack of balance they can be forgiven.

In our time we struggle to make ends meet, and never have enough. We know the importance of our good reputation, but are ready to put down another person. We speak of our faith and religious values, but are caught in a consumer society which taints our way of thinking, translating wants into needs.

May we learn from the child who delights in the wrapping on a gift, rather than what is in the box. May we deny ourselves of one necessity, like sugar, in the coffee or a second beer, aware that someone else is in need. Greed is sneaky, it is easy to see it in the capital sins.

Family Time

Just as the family that prays together, stays together, so

does the family that plays together. It is important that

Christian families spend time together on a regular basis.

Oftentimes, families are too busy to enjoy a meal together or catch up on each other’s lives. However, a

period of “family time” offers families a chance to

become closer to God and to each other.
