The Theme

Dia De Los Muertos is a festival that occurs in some variation in almost every cul-ture around the world. Dia De Los Muertos is a time to honor one’s ancestors and the dead. Samhain, an additional reference point, is the ancient Celtic festival for the har-vest and the beginning of the new year.

This theme will give us a powerful framework around which to discuss the origins of one’s strengths and capacities and how those translate into a vision for the future. This is aligned with this particular hiring group where one of the main metrics for eval-ution is potential as they are new to the professional world. We also think it is a pow-erful way to make connections between the exisiting knowledge and experience of the older Red Bull employees and the new cohort.

Old HollywoodLights. Camera. Action. In the mid-1800s, one adobe hut stood in what would become the world capital for the motion picture industry — Hollywood, California. It is the iconic place where fortunes are made and lost, dreams are tested, and magic becomes reality. But at the turn of the Twentieth Century, everything still lies ahead.These origins create a framework for a powerful theme: to explore the concepts of roles, performance and character. Through the metaphor of Hollywood cinema, we will use classical storytelling mechanisms as evaluation tools and frameworks for assessing individual potential.

The way in which we think about and react to the unknown has a profound effect on how we act, what we produce and how we perceive our external environ-ment. It’s an effective tool for opening people’s cognitive pro-cess to incorporate new learn-ings and new experiences. It’s also a good metric/indicator for exploring how people will adapt to their professional cir-cumstances/environment on an on-going basis.

Pillar 2AdaptabilityIncreasingly, experts are cit-ing adaptability as one of the key skills for successful lead-ers. Adaptability, defined as the ability to change or be changed in order to fit or work better in some situation or for some pur-pose, can be very difficult to measure/assess. We will cre-ate actual environments where different components shift and graduates have to react, thereby exposing their degree of adapt-ability.

Pillar 3PerceptionPerception is one of the most influential tools we use to pro-cess our environment and make decisions. Much is known about the way the cerebral cortex, the outer rind of the brain, initially analyzes sensory messages. Yet investigations are only now be-ginning to suggest how the brain moves beyond the mere ex-traction of features-how it com-bines sensory messages with past experience and with expec-tation to identify both the stimu-lus and its particular meaning to the individual.

Pillar 3: Self - Definition and PerceptionThe framework of this year’s theme gives us the ability to observe self perception and perception of others in a very nuanced way using the construct of “roles”. By assigning characters and scenarios, we will give people the opportunity to explore the different between their “authentic selves” and the roles we need to play and how that affects self perception and self-definition.

Within the “set” we will create different smaller moments and interactions through lighting and staging that create different types of interaction dynamics. Think Paramount Studios, iconic movies of the 1930s and 40s. Sunset Boulevard, Gone with the Wind, Psycho.PAGE 7: STRUCTUREOffering:For this year’s “offering”, Participants will be asked in advance to write a one minute movie monologue that expresses a pivotal moment in their life in regard to shaping their character. As we saw last year, this will give hiring managers the opportunity to observe how they each interpret this and the types of subjects they chose to focus on as a way to see individuality. Screen Tests:Upon arrival, guest will gather for a meet and greet cocktail hour. Throughout theseintroductions we will pull candidates out one by one and have them film a screen test.From this room where we film the screen tests, the candidates can be seen either visually or through a closed circuit camera. These screen tests will be another opportunity for hiring managers to have a window into how candidates perform/behave when there are different environmental dynamics. The Dinner:Dinner will consist of one long table that faces a smaller table on a raised “stage”. This second table will act as our “playing space” to improve the ability of the entire table to observe and comment. Dinner will consist of a series of micro interactions designed to test candidates subject matter expertise, communication skills and emotional responses. At times, candidates will be asked to move to the “state” to play out particularly interesting interactions or conversations that are taking place. PAGE 8 Conclusion:At the end of the night, brief “after party” where hiring managers will have a chance to mingle and interact with candidates outside of the construct of the night. This gives them the opportunity to reinforce or challenge things they may have observed before entering into the second part of the interview process the following day.
