Tallahassee, FL - El Programa del Departamento de la Salud de la Mujer, Infantes y Niños (conocido como WIC) anunció la culminación de la implementación del nuevo sistema de data que contiene los clientes que reciben beneficios de comida WIC. El nuevo sistema utiliza una tarjeta electrónica como las de débito o crédito en vez de los cheques de papel utilizados anteriormente. El estado de la Florida es el primer estado en implementar simultáneamente el nuevo sistema de data de participantes de WIC y traer los servicios en línea de Transferencia de Beneficios Electrónicos (EBT por sus siglas en inglés). “El conectar a las familias de
la Florida con comida nutritiva y asequible le permite a los padres tomar decisiones más saludables para sus hijos,” comentó el Dr. John
Armstrong, Cirujano General del Estado y Secretario de Salud. “La implementación del nuevo sistema de data de WIC junto a los servicios de EBT demuestran un paso hacia el progreso y hacia una mejor salud para la Florida.”WIC EBT proveerá a los participantes

Tallahassee, FL - The Florida Department of Health’s Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program announced the completion of its statewide implementation of a new data system that supports clients receiving WIC food benefits. The new system uses an electronic card much like a credit or debit card rather than the paper checks used previously. Florida is the first state to simultaneously implement a new WIC participant data system and bring Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) services online. “Connecting Florida’s families with
nutritious and affordable food options allows parents to make healthier food choices for their children,” said State Surgeon General and Secretary of Health Dr. John Armstrong. “The implementation of the new WIC data system and EBT services demonstrate innovative steps toward better health for Florida.”WIC EBT will provide participants
with greater flexibility in redeeming benefits and increase benefit security. The WIC vendor community anticipates a decrease in paper-based errors that result in banking fees and loss of payment, automated recognition of WIC items at the point of sale, and a reduction in the time it takes to receive payments for WIC EBT purchases. The WIC Program anticipates greater accuracy and detail in transaction information.Implementation of WIC EBT realizes
significant benefits for approximately 450,000 WIC participants, 2,000 WIC grocers, the WIC Program, and the taxpayer. WIC EBT provides the participant with greater shopping flexibility to obtain their prescriptive foods throughout the month. Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) was a first for the county. The CRA stretches from Kissimmee City limits to Partin Settlement Road. This
is the second annual report, but the first to cover a full year, as the CRA was created in mid-2012. The County Commission sits as the CRA board.A landscape improvement project for
the interchange of Florida’s Turnpike along U.S. 192 is upcoming. Leaders want to create a sense of arrival for visitors. The county worked with the Florida Turnpike Enterprise, which doubled the amount originally planned for the project. $500,000 will be used to cover the enhancements and work should begin in FY2014.In addition, the county adopted
policies that will increase the density and intensity of development within the area, to promote job growth and to further enhance the tax base of the CRA.

to their number of worker hours and judged for the most incident-free records during 2013. Washington, D.C - El congresista Alan Grayson (FL-09) coauspició la ley ‘Solidaridad con la Libertad y Democracia Venezolana’ (H.R.4229, Venezuelan Liberty and Democratic Solidarity Act en inglés). Grayson recently wrote a letter
to President Obama, urging him to quell the violence in Venezuela by employing similar measures. The letter reads, in part, “Using the authority that Congress has granted to the Executive Branch, you are able to deny visas to Members of the Government of Venezuela; freeze assets; and prohibit the financial transactions of those who consistently violate human rights. As a Member of Congress who represents a large number of constituents born in
Venezuela, I support each of these actions.” Grayson has also co-sponsored
and voted for another Venezuela resolution, which passed out of the full House of Representatives earlier this month. Toronto Raptors. This was the fourth and final game between these two teams. The Magic began with a poor
start having two of their starters, Kyle O’Quinn and Arron Afflalo, go scoreless for the entire first half. Nik Vucevic had 18 points and eight rebounds in the first half and was able to finish the game with 22 points and ten rebounds. Victor Oladipo and
Jameer Nelson both had 16 points while Maurice Harkless and Tobias Harris combined for 28. The Magic trailed by as many as 21 points in the third but were able to come back and tie the Raptors in the fourth quarter. The 98 to 95 loss for the Magic ended their two game winning streak. This came after they came back and beat the Charlotte Bobcats in overtime 110 to 105. Last Friday, Orlando hosted the
Bobcats. The Magic took the victory over the Bobcats who are currently playoff bound. It was another game that came down to the wire. At half time, the Magic were down by nine. They continued to grind and kept their confidence high. With 7.6 seconds on the clock, Afflalo drilled the three that took the game into overtime. Jameer
Nelson, who had missed the last four games with a sore knee, had eight assists and 11 points – five of which came in over time. Afflalo finished with 17, Harris had 15, and Oladipo had 14. But most impressively for the Magic was Nik Vucevic. This was his fifth career game a double double in the 20s. He had 24 points and grabbed 23 rebounds. He proved the dominant rebounder. By the half he had grabbed 16 boards, which was equal to the entire Bobcats team. This game and his consistent efforts earned him the NBA’s Eastern Conference player of the week. He is the first Magic player to earn this since Dwight Howard. This past Wednesday, the Magic
suffered an embarrassing blowout loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Orlando started the game well but
seemed to fall apart in the second quarter. By half time, the Cavaliers had 70 points, which set a new record for the Magic. But their lack of defense and competitive edge did not give Coach Jacque Vaughn something to be embarrassed about. When asked about the team’s performance Vaughn said “They work extremely hard every day. Some days it’s not your day over an 82 game season. I’ll continue to push these guys and want the best and most out of them.” Cleveland had 64 of their 119 points come from the paint – another game note that points to the lack of defense. But Orlando will need to put this loss behind them and move forward. Orlando will take on the Bobcats tonight in Charlotte then have four days till their next game at home against the Brooklyn Nets.

Soccer team drew the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in their home opener. Orlando’s midfielders seemed to control the first half and created several great opportunities. Despite their efforts the score was tied at the end of the first half. Almost immediately after kick off in
the second half, the Riverhounds took the lead on a rough play. Pittsburgh’s Jose Angulo knocked Rob Valentino to the ground before sliding one past Orlando’s keeper. About fifteen minutes into the second half, Luke Boden was able to strike the ball into the top right corner off a powerful corner kick. A few more unlucky looks
led to the Lion’s draw against the Riverhounds. The Lions will host the Rochester
Rhinos this Saturday at the Wide World of Sports Complex. The team announced the return of the I4 Derby
this year. This fun rivalry between Orlando and the Tampa Bay Rowdies will take place in Orlando on April 30th and in Tampa on July 6th. As Orlando City gets more attention
as they prepare to make their MLS
debut, more and more rumors are beginning to swirl. While the team has yet to make an official announcement, Kaka, currently playing for Milan, has made a verbal agreement to join the club in 2015 for its MLS inaugural season. Kaka recently told and Italian newspaper that he leaves AC Milan if this summer he will look into playing in the MLS. Kaka is a Brazilian native that has been a featured playmaker on for Real Madrid and his current team, AC Milan. Kaka visited Orlando City’s training last season and is a well-known friend to the Lion’s Brazilian owner, Flavio Augusto da Silva. This would be a huge signing for Orlando and a great way to start their first season in the MLS.

Osceola County Sheriff’s detectives obtained a felony warrant for Earl Cecil Corbett, Jr. and arrested him for Burglary to Unoccupied Conveyance and Petit Theft $100 to $300.
The investigation began on February 20 when deputies responded to Rod Shop of Kissimmee located at 411 E. Donegan Avenue in Kissimmee.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the owner of the business who indicated one of his customer’s vehicles had been burglarized on his property. The front end chrome grille had been removed from the customer’s vehicle. Video surveillance from the business identified a City of Kissimmee Ford F150 truck driving onto the property, park near the car that was burglarized and drive away. From the video, it was
unclear who was driving the truck.On March 14, detectives obtained
surveillance video from the City of Kissimmee Service Center and were able to identify the truck used in the burglary as a “pool” vehicle and not assigned to a specific employee. Detectives also discovered Corbett, a mechanic with the city, owned a car similar to the one that had been
burglarized and the chrome grille on his car matched the one that had been stolen. On March 28, detectives brought Corbett in for questioning. He cooperated with the investigation and based on his statements and the evidence, Corbett was arrested on the felony warrant and booked into the Osceola County Jail. St. Cloud, FL - Local artists are participating in the 2nd Annual St. Cloud Art in Public Places (SCAPP) program. The exhibition begins April 1 in City Hall. St. Cloud Mayor Rebecca Borders started the program in 2013 to provide a way for people to learn more about each other, increase respect for others’ ways of thinking, and communicate more with one another on thoughts and ideas in a creative way.This year, seven artists will be featured during
four cycles: April 1-30, May 1-30, June 2-30, and July 1-31. The seven Osceola County residents will have their original artwork on display in St. Cloud City Hall’s lobby areas in
Building A and Building B and on the Bridge. The public is invited to stop by City Hall Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., except during holidays, to see the original artwork.Visitors to City Hall will enjoy several art
