A total of 33 boys and girls from across
Pendle got involved in another very suc-
cessful under 16’s Naat competition this
year.
The Naat competition gave the teenag-
ers of East Lancashire a chance to get
on the radio and help build up their
confidence; while competing against
each other to win first place.
All the youngsters loved it and those
that made it to the final received certificates for participating and boxes of chocolates,
as well as shield trophies. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners were given special tro-
phies, certificates and chocolates.
Congratulations to our 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners and all the runners up who were
all brilliant. 6 year old, Muhammad Rayhan, won 1st place from the boys group and ab-
solutely blew us all away. From the girls group, Alisha Ahmed & Jasmine Ahmed per-
formed as a duo and came first. Pendle Community Radio is proud of all the teenagers
who got involved.
PCR hopes in the following year more children from across the whole of Lancashire
participate, in order to be in with a chance of ap-
pearing on the radio and winning a bunch of
amazing prizes.
We are proud to have been able to successfully
host this competition through the help of our tal-
ented presenters Jaleel and Rabia and our gener-
ous show sponsors.
Pendle Community Radio would also like to thank
all the parents of East Lancashire for supporting
their children and encouraging them to participate.
Well done to all those under 16’s who made it to
the final and a huge congratulations to the winners.
We hope to see even more participants in our next Naat Competitions in July.

We would like to thank Andrew Stephenson
MP for Pendle and Justine Greening MP who is
the Secretary of State for International Devel-
opment, upon visiting the Pendle Community
Radio - Awaz 103.1FM Studios.
Andrew and Justine met the team at Pendle
Community Radio and sat in the radio hot seats
to be interviewed live by PCR’s very talented
presenter; Rabia.
Justine Greening MP also met the directors of
Minhaj Welfare Foundation. MWF is one of the
largest non-government international charity
organisations in the world, with a network of
branches and projects in over 100 countries
worldwide and is a worldwide humanitarian
development organisation. One of the key top-
ics of the discussion was the role of the UK's
funding procedures for humanitarian develop-
ment projects in Pakistan.
Whilst on the radio airwaves Justine Greening MP talked about campaigning for local and European Union
elections. She also discussed what her role as Secretary of State for International Development involved,
which included looking after the department for Interna-
tional development. DFID runs programmes in many
countries, including Pakistan where they are doing a lot
of work on education, healthcare and also increasingly
helping the current government of Pakistan improve
their tax take, and getting the economy on track.
We wish Andrew and Justine all the best for the future
and hope to see them back at the radio station soon.

The residents of Pendle have been expressing their
concerns after a horrendous massacre took place in
Model Town, Lahore, Pakistan against Minhaj-ul-
Quran International (MQI) leader Dr Muhammad
Tahir ul Qadri and Pakistani Civilians.
MP Andrew Stephenson met with members of MQI
Nelson on Friday 20th June at his constituency, to
address the disturbing violence that had taken place
in Pakistan against the founding chairman of Minhaj-ul-Quran International; Dr Muhammad Tahir ul
Qadri and innocent Pakistani Civilians.
Andrew Stephenson who is also a member of the All-Party Parliamentary group on Pakistan and MP
for Pendle, made a visit to the local mosques; Jamia Masjid Minhaj-ul-Quran on Brunswick Street and
Carr Road in Nelson. He publicly addressed those attending Friday prayers, expressing his deep con-
cerns and mentioning how he had raised the issue with the Foreign Office and had written to the
Pakistani High Commissioner in London, calling for a full independent inquiry into what happened.
He felt this incident had caused outrage not just across Pakistan
but across the Pakistani community living in the UK.
He encouraged the residents to sign a petition made by MQI
Nelson condemning the Act of Terrorism on the Minhaj-ul-
Quran Complex in Lahore, allegedly carried out by the current
Government of Pakistan and the Federal Government of Punjab
on Tuesday 17th June. The Punjab police force took action to remove security barriers around the
Minhaj-ul-Quran headquarters and the home of Dr Muhammad Tahir ul Qadri in Lahore. These barri-
ers were placed by the high court of Pakistan for the safety of the local residents.
In this attack civilians were targeted and killed including innocent women and children. More than 85
people were injured, who remain in hospital. Hundreds are still missing, with fears of abduction and
torture. The petition demands for the perpetrators to be brought to account and trialled at the Inter-
national Criminal Court in The Hague.
Many MPs have been in contact with the
MQI institutes across the UK, showing their
support.
Condolence messages can be left for those
affected by this horrific attack on:

Many of you will be thinking
where I have been over the
last couple of weeks; I was
blessed to visit the Holy city of
Makkah and Madinah. I felt
very honoured and privileged
when I found out that I was
going to be travelling to the
holy cities, I was very much
looking forward to it. Along-
side my other activities, as a
carer, I had a very important
task of looking after my grand-
parents. As they are in their
late seventies it was important to plan the trip from the
hotel access, to the mosque for mobility issues, food, pray-
ing etc but thanks to God everything was sorted. As I em-
barked and arrived at Jeddah, I was greeted by my friends
who looked after me and my family for the short time as I
transited to Madinah in another flight.
When I entered the city of Madinah, the city of the Prophet
Muhammad (Peace be upon Him), I felt the sense of calm
and peace. The city itself is calm. For me it was a really spe-
cial time as I was with my grandparents and family. Every
day I would go and give salutations to the Prophet and His
family and occasionally I would spend my time reflecting
about life; especially with my grandparents. I realised how
lucky I was to be on this journey with them. This time
spent made me realise how I wanted to live my life; in
peace and tranquillity.
As I spent my days in Madinah I got a chance to meet a lot
of people. The hospitality from the local people was amaz-
ing. There would be bread, Holy water Zam Zam and dates
available to break the fast after prayer. After all, it was the
city of Madinah which belonged to the Holy Prophet
(PBUH).
I also had the chance to pray at the gardens of Paradise on
a daily basis. This is a part in the Holy Mosque which the
Prophet has regarded it as a proportion of paradise where
people can visit and pray. I felt really lucky to be standing
there and praying but as the days went by I began to realise
the rationale behind planning everything beforehand to en-
sure everything was readily available for my grandparents.
As the time came to say farewell to Madinah, I felt sad-
dened and emotional but as I was leaving the city of the
Prophet (PBUH), I was entering one of the busiest cities of
all, Makkah Al Mukarramah.
Travelling in the afternoon from Madinah to Makkah in the
scorching heat made me think about the Prophets era and
how He and His companions travelled 1400 years ago.
There were no service stations for them to drop by and
take a drink or any air conditioning anywhere for them to
cool down. I felt a sense of gratitude as I reached Makkah
appreciating everything that I had back home.
The people of Makkah live in a very fast paced environ-
ment. It was only 2 years ago I visited Makkah and so much
had changed. The city is constantly changing trying to ac-
commodate the needs of the many pilgrims visiting all
throughout the year. The mosque is expanding at such a
huge pace with many facilities adapting to the requirements
of its visitors. The second floor is wholly dedicated for
wheelchairs users. This is where I took my grandparents to
perform the Tawaf (a part of the Umrah pilgrimage). As the
expansion of the Haram (House of God) continues, the
services for the pilgrims will get better.
Whilst I was in Saudi Arabia I had the chance to visit the
city of Taif and Jeddah. The cities were completely different
from Makkah. The city of Taif is located on top of a moun-
tain and the hospitality from the people there is remark-
able. Even the temperatures were completely different; it
was 40 degrees in Makkah but only 18 degrees in Taif!
It was a privilege and a blessing to visit the Holy cities and
to visit them with my grandparents was an honour. I under-
stand as a carer myself that, looking after the elderly or
people with disabilities can be tough and challenging how-
ever I do believe that if you look after somebody and take
good care of them, hopefully in the future, not only will
somebody look after you, but so will God.
As I am writing this I am sitting in my house; the things I am
missing the most is obviously the city of Makkah and
Madinah but also the weather.

local businesses the opportunity to adver-
tise or sponsor programmes on the radio.
Pendle Radio is very popular amongst the
local community & is also available on the
internet, as such it offers a great opportunity for businesses to ad-
vertise their products to this growing consumer demographic.
The expense of advertising on other types of media can be a re-
strictive factor especially for smaller businesses and this is precisely
where Pendle Radio can help. Ad spots can be bought by the sec-
ond and as such offer great value for money.
The science of advertisement suggests repetition and simplicity are
the key to a good radio advert, the cost of ads on Pendle Radio
means even smaller businesses can now purchase repetitive ads.
