The 2000 Committee wanted to celebrate the success of a young per-son in the town, and so Neve was chosen to open the Fair and was pre-sented with a certificate of excellence by the Chair of the Ferryhill 2000 Com-

The Fair was attended by many and enjoyed by all.

“The Ferryhill 2000 Committee would like to thank all stall holders and Ferryhill Sports and Edu-cation Centre for making the event the success that it was,” said a spokesper-son.

THE FERRYHILL 2000 Committee, in Partnership with Ferryhill Sports and Education Centre, held their Christmas Fair on Sunday 25th November.

Over twenty stalls were in attendance, including the Ferryhill Six, Endeav-our Woodcrafts and Thin-ford Nurseries. There was also a wonderful performance by Chance Drama and lovely hot food served.

The first meeting was held in April 2006 after a few local ladies decided to set up a social group for over 55s at Dean Bank Institute.

To their astonishment, over 100 people turned up and the group has being going strong ever since, holding fortnightly meet-ings on a Monday after-noon. There are currently 109 members and a wait-ing list of 65!

As well as holding ‘Days In’ with tea, coffee and entertainment, members also enjoy ‘Days Out’ and have enjoyed trips to thea-tres, including to see Miss

Siagon at Sunderland, to show gardens and visits to Windermere and Scar-borough.

A spokesperson for the group said: “We would like to thank Enid Ridley for once again making the Christmas dessert.

“We have fabulous, loyal supporters and as long a waiting list as ever. We’d like to say thank you to everyone who attended and everyone who makes the club run well every year. ”

FERRYHILL’S FAVOURITE social club, DIDO (Days In Days Out) held its annual celebratory dinner dance on Monday 26th Novem-ber at the Masonic Hall in Ferryhill.

The party was just one event in a jam-packed itin-erary for the group, which

ON WEDNESDAY 7th of November, members and guests of Ferryhill Vil-lage Women’s Institute were entertained by the talented Julie Pendleton.

A spokesperson for the group said, “What a great entertainer and so professional. It was our birthday party and every-one enjoyed the fantas-tic buffet; our members were also given a birth-day gift.

“Our eldest member

Mrs. Olive Chaplin cut the birthday cake.”

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 5th December in the Dean Bank Community Centre at 6.30pm.

The ladies will be enter-tained by children from the Broom School who will perform Christmas Carols and other songs which they have been rehearsing.

There will also be the usual Christmas stalls.

All members and guests will also get sweet mince pies and non-alcoholic wine, but they can of course take along their own wine if they are not driving.

President Sylvia Bell commented, “Unfortu-nately I will be driving so I will have to stick to the alcohol free wine!

“I am looking forward to another brilliant night with all our members and friends.”

SCHOOL CHILDREN from local schools will be entertaining shoppers around the Ferryhill mar-ket leading up to Christ-mas by singing Christmas carols in Ferryhill Town Hall gardens.

On Friday 7th December at 11am, Ferryhill Station Primary School will start off the carol singing.

On Friday 14th Decem-ber at 9.45am Cleves Cross Infants will sing, followed by Cleves Cross

FERRYHILL COMMUNITY Hub FC (FSEC’s Sunday morning football team) faced their toughest chal-lenge of the season so far when they come up against Lumley Snooker Club in the semi-final of the Stepys Coaches Trophy.

From the outset the game was a fierce con-test, with challenges fly-ing in from both teams.

Ferryhill started the strongest with Tyler Mar-quis, who would put in a man of the match perfor-mance, causing all sorts of trouble down the right flank with his pace.

The breakthrough came from a lovely move by Fer-ryhill down the right-hand side which was neatly fin-ished off by Brad Wilkinson.

However, Lumley were looking very dangerous from set pieces and they eventually equalised through a corner.

The game shifted in Lumley’s favour and Fer-ryhill were forced into a period of defending.

Dean Halpin pulled off some fantastic saves to

keep the scores level. As Lumley pushed

forward, they left them-selves open to a counter attack, which Ferryhill duly exploited.

Liam Wright found him-self charging through on goal only to have Lumley’s keeper handle outside the box giving Ferryhill a free-kick in a dangerous position.

Jake Price stepped up and slotted in a very cheeky shot under the wall and into the back of the net to put Ferryhill up 2-1 at the interval.

The Hub came out for the second half with high spirits knowing they were only half a game away from their first final.

They continued to play some mouth-watering

football with their mid-field trio of Neil, Kyle and Jake controlling the game.

Liam and Tyler were constant threats down the wings and the two linked up for Ferryhill’s third goal, Liam with the run and pull back to Tyler who slotted it home.

Ferryhill’s fourth and final goal came from Alex ‘Hooch’ Quinn who broke through the defence and rounded the keeper to send Ferryhill flying into the final.

A consolation goal from Lumley did nothing to dampen the Ferryhill cel-ebrations as they set their sight on a final against Spennymoor Volti.

The date of the final is yet to be arranged.

EMPHATIC WIN SENDS HUB INTO CUP FINAL

A MUCH depleted Ferry-hill Celtic made the long trip to Consett to play in the last 32 of the County Cup against Consett Top Club of the Consett and District Sunday League.

With six key players missing due to injury, it was a huge task of Celtic, but the visitors started the brighter and took the lead in the 10th minute.

An inch perfect cross found Jonny Agar and the veteran finished cooly with his head.

The goal served to awaken the home team who grew into the game and dominated the next 20 minutes.

The hosts created chances but it was Celtic who almost doubled their lead when they broke for-ward at pace before Zac Renwick’s sweetly struck shot from the edge of the box wrong footed the Consett keeper, but just missed the target.

Instead it would be Con-sett who would eventually find the net to send the

sides into the break on level terms.

After the break, a sec-ond Celtic goal looked to have sealed victory as the weakened side defended resolutely under immense pressure.

But with just a minute remaining, a Consett cor-ner was fisted clear but fell nicely on the edge of the box to the centre forward who rifled an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.

Celtic’s players, who had giving so much through-out the game, sank to their knees as the referee immediately blew the final whistle to send the game to penalties.

Having come so close, it was Consett who pre-vailed in the shootout, winning 3-2 to make their way into the next round.

Meanwhile, Ferryhill Dynamoes met Chilton & Windlestone WMC in the same round with the Chil-ton club winning through by 3-1. They will now face Newton Aycliffe in the third round.
