GOSPEL LEARNING

This week we celebrate The Presentation of the Lord. In the Gospel from St. Luke, we learn how Mary and Joseph traveled to Jerusalem to fulfill their duties as parents by presenting their son Jesus at the temple. Mary and Joseph were amazed when they heard Simeon’s proclamation. It is further evidence that Jesus is the Promised One! He is the one foretold by the prophets in the Old Testament. Jesus is God’s son.

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 2: 22-40

“Jesus Is Presented in the Temple”

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew

37 Sya ay 84 years old na.

LIVING THE GOSPEL

1. SITUATION

Mary and Joseph fulfill a custom of their Jewish faith by journeying to Jerusalem with Jesus. As Catholics, we have many customs and traditions - as well as sacraments. Name and discuss some of the Catholic customs and traditions. What sacrament does the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple remind you in our Catholic faith?

LIVING THE GOSPEL

2. GOSPEL THEME

Like the other Jews, Mary and Joseph had to bring Jesus to the temple to present him to God. If two doves were sacrificed for Jesus, Jesus was to be sacrificed for the rest of men. God sent Jesus to live like the rest of men but out of love for all men.

LIVING THE GOSPEL

3. GOSPEL CHALLENGE

Join Mary and Joseph in proclaiming in their hearts that Jesus is the Promised One by praying the Joyful Mystery of the Holy Rosary and by attending Mass.

TRIVIA: SIMEON AND ANNA

They are good examples of faith-filled servants mentioned in the Gospel. Each has been moved by the Holy Spirit to be present in the temple. By their prayers and communion with the Holy Spirit, they are able to see Jesus for who he is - not just a baby, but the “Light for all the nations.”

CLOSING PRAYER

Dear Jesus,

We proclaim that you are the Promised One! We joyfully await for your second coming.

In your name we pray.

Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be...
