Preschool education:
Schooling includes initiation in English, German or FrenchPrimary school:
1 – 3 hours/week of English, French or GermanSecondary education:
2 hours/week of 2 foreign languages Throughout school:
7 – 8 years with learning 1 foreign language (English, French or German)
and 3 – 4 years thereafter with learning a second foreign language (English,
French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese or Russian);In Romania there are tertiary faculties teaching:
English, French and German. No Scandinavian languages are available.Many purchase courses at training centers or private tutoring.
Working hours for engineers: 40 hours/week
Young engineers consider their own and a company’s development and growth prospects before accepting a job offer.
Motivation:
The top non-financial benefits young professionals expect from their employer is health insurance, the coverage of meals at work and bonuses for holidays
A“surprise prize” (for example a trip, film and/or theatre tickets, etc.)
can be used as a motivating tool for employees to meet deadlines and create a positive competitive atmosphere. This also significantly reduces conflict between employees
Engineers are loyal to their companies, they are willing to do overtime and get more professional challenges, even if the stress would increase proportionally with responsibilities.
Dresscode:
The dress code varies but is more formal in multinational companies and government run businesses.
Management and Communication:
Little hierarchy and few intermediates between an employee and a manager. Employees work independently and in teams
Communication at the work is easy, but polite. We use “Mr.” or “Mrs.”
Lack of professional development opportunities and appreciation from superiors intensify teamwork environments. Poor relations with a direct
superior is often a reason for dissatisfaction
SALARY
The salaries of engineers fell by at least 15 % from 2007-2008 due to the recession.Salary for engineers (average net/month in May 2012):
- Crude oil and natural gas: 935 Euro;
- Air transport: 795 Euro;
- Telecommunications: 640 Euro;
- IT: 800 Euro;
- Mechanical: 750 Euro.
In Bucharest, the salaries are almost double those of employees in the same areas in other cities from Romania.
Net average salary for graduates:400-500 Euro;For those with 2-3 years experience:700-800 Euro.
To be told about development opportunities for themselves and the company
Salary expectations have increased for all levels of experience.
Last year, the average expected salary for young professionals was 450 Euro, rising wage demands this year to 600 Euro.
Young people with several years of experience can earn up to 1000 Euro, while young inexperienced expect little over 350 Euro.
When given an offer, young professional first look at health insurance, meal tickets and bonuses for celebrations, when determining if they should accept an offer. Mobile phone deals, transportation reimbursement, bonuses for holiday, catering to work are the last factors they consider.
