I have a dream that perhaps one day the last few truly wild elephants hiding in the Garden of Eden, a forested region along the southern coastal area of Africa, may once again connect with their kin in the Addo Elephant National Park. You can be part of that dream by investing in the planets most biodiverse conservation

corridor connecting Eden to Addo.

THE VISION | to link three mega-reserves, namely the Garden Route National Park (EDEN), The Baviaanskloof World Heritage Site and the Addo Elephant National Park by means of natural

corridors to protect and restore the integrity of bio-diversity and eco-system functioning.

CORRIDOR COORDINATORCorridors are parcels of land connecting protected areas

owned by private individuals. Where willing landowners and critical biodiversity overlap there is an opportunity to declare

a conservancy, protected environment or nature reserve. An environmental management plan is prepared to protect

and restore the biodiversity , audited every year. A corridor coordinator facilitates the activities in remote, wild areas.

Help us fund the Corridor Coordinator.

DRIVING THROUGH WILDERNESS AREAS• The distances are long

• The roads are often tracks • Which we measure, not in kilometres, but in time

• Sometimes as the crow flies 20km, driving time 2 hours• Some areas are inaccessible by foot or by car

• The Corridor Coordinator requires a good vehicle• To reach the landowners to discuss protecting

• The biodiversity on their land• Help us fund our vehicles.

Introduction of Bio-control

ALIEN VEGETATIONThe mountains bordering the Garden of Eden and the rivers throughout the Eden to Addo Corridor are infested with alien trees, wattle, origin Australia, and pines. Sometimes they are wall to wall as pictured here. Eden to Addo has released some bio-control but it's too slow to release the water from the rivers for the growing population. The application to raise funds from the Green Trust ( R 3 000 000.00 ) the Department of Environmental Affairs ( R 4 000 000.00 ) and TMF (R 600 000.00) was successful as a result of private individuals funding the operational costs ( R 370 000.00 ). To date 450 ha has been cleared releasing an annual amount of 653,568 cubic meters of water into the Keurbooms River. Streams that have not had water in them for years are flowing again! The alien vegetation by product, bio-char, produced by Pam Booth’s project has been successfully tested in informal settlements. A hole is dug, rubble, biochar and soil added, a tree planted and grey water led to the hole. The trees flourish and utilises atmospheric carbon in the process, the carbon from alien vegetation is buried rather than being released in the atmosphere and grey water is removed from streets where children play.
